SCHOOL FACTS

Malvern Preparatory School is an independent, Augustinian school for young men in grades six through twelve. Since 1842, the School’s tradition has been to prepare young men for college, for leadership, and for life. Malvern educates its students in a caring environment focused on academics while maintaining a balance between spirituality, arts, athletics, and activities. Students are learning a foundation of knowledge today so that they may lead with integrity tomorrow. The School is located on a 103-acre campus in Malvern, Pennsylvania, a suburb residential area 20 miles west of Philadelphia. Typically, 100% of graduates attend four-year colleges.

ADMISSION/ENROLLMENT

Admission to Malvern Prep is competitive and there are predictable waitlists for each entry grade. Decisions are based on a student’s strength of transcript, teacher recommendations, and entrance exam results as well as a commitment to mission, involvement in school and community life, and demonstration of leadership potential. Current enrollment is 675 boys: 511 in the Upper School grades 9-12, 164 in the Middle School grades 6-8. Approximately 35% of students receive financial assistance to attend Malvern Preparatory School.

FACULTY

There are 73 Upper School faculty members of whom 85% hold advanced degrees. Typical class size is 15-20. Student-faculty ratio is 9:1.

ACCREDITATION

The school is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The school holds membership in the NAIS, PAIS, the CEEB, ACCIS, the National and Pennsylvania Associations for College Admissions Counseling, and the Augustinian Secondary Education Association.

There is a Christian Service requirement for all students in grades 9-12.

VERITAS IN ACTION (VIA) CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The Veritas in Action (VIA) Certificate Program gives Malvern Prep students a meaningful opportunity to serve their communities while pursuing intentional depth and breadth across existing learning experiences. Developed through a collaboration between Malvern Prep’s Scholar-in-Residence program and Villanova University’s Center for Humanitarian Engineering and International Development, the program allows students to earn a certificate in one of three pathways: Sustainable Communities, Innovation and Design, or Social Entrepreneurship. Students design and select learning experiences that align with their chosen pathway, then bring those experiences together through a Capstone Independent Study. Through this process, students deepen their understanding of themselves, develop their capacity to contribute to the common good, and help position Malvern as a regional leader in creating collaborative, service-oriented learning opportunities for students and faculty.

INDEPENDENT STUDIES AND TEACHING ASSISTANT OPPORTUNITIES

Courses labeled with IND: indicate an Independent Study, designed for students pursuing specialized or self-directed learning. Courses labeled TA: indicate Teaching Assistant for a class or program where students support instruction and classroom learning.

DISCIPLINE

Malvern will disclose to colleges and universities any serious disciplinary violation. We also expect and counsel our seniors to make full disclosure of any serious disciplinary violations that occur after applications have been submitted to colleges.
