Dear Friends

Up Front Congratulations to the Class of 2024 for all they have achieved individually and collectively. They are an exceptional group of young men who leave an indelible print on Malvern Prep for years to come. Their achievements are the result of a familiar recipe of hard work, the love and guidance of their families, and the commitment of our faculty and staff. I am grateful for the impact they have made on our school, each other, and their younger Friar brothers. I wish them every success as they leave Malvern Prep. I hope that they know they are always welcome to return to campus. The faculty, staff, and their Friar brothers look forward to welcoming them back.

Our theme for this past academic year was, “Become What You Are Not Yet.” Unknowingly, this theme took on multiple meanings throughout the year. It was intended to be a rallying call for students, faculty, and staff to look within themselves, and challenge themselves and each other to become their best version, a reminder to keep moving forward on our shared journey and push against complacency. As construction took hold of the campus, it became evident that this theme also applied to our campus becoming what it is not yet — a premiere all-boys, Independent school whose programmatic excellence is supported by state-of-the-art facilities.

Malvern Prep has a history of triumphing in adversity and standing out in a crowded academic market, all while staying true to its founding mission. This combination of innovation, preservation, and perseverance serves as the underpinning for our recent campus-wide transformation. Highlights of this work include the following: •R iley Hall opened in September 2023 — A renovated and much-needed space dedicated to our Middle School that aligns with our award-winning program.

•T urf Baseball Field opened in April 2024 - A reimagined, top-of-the-line turf field and baseball stadium that provides players and fans with a superior experience.

•T urf Lacrosse & Soccer Field opened in June 2024 - A reconceptualized turf field serving both lacrosse and soccer teams, complete with new stands that optimize the viewing experience.

•V ic Maggitti Pavilion Opening August 2024 - A three-story building nestled between Stewart Hall and Riley Hall that will serve all student counseling, college counseling, and learning support needs. The visibility and accessibility reinforce Malvern’s dedication to centering students in all designs and we look forward to the building’s opening this fall.

I look forward to the ’24-’25 academic year and welcoming new students and families to our community. I wish all of you a happy and safe summer!

Life After Warren Ave. An Interview with Rev. Donald Reilly, O.S.A., D.Min.

After serving as Head of School at Malvern Prep from 2017-2022, Fr. Donald Reilly was asked by the Prior Provincial to serve in a new role — Prior of Our Mother of Good Counsel Novitiate for the Augustinian Province of St. Thomas of Villanova.

In this role, Fr. Reilly is part of the formation team — a group of Augustinian Friars who guide and mentor young men (Novices) who are seriously considering the Augustinian way of life. He lives with students who are being trained and educated to become future members of the Augustinian Order.

Students spend one year at the Novitiate, located in Radnor, PA, learning the Rule of St. Augustine and engaging in self-knowing. After this year, they will take their first vows.

As the Prior of the Novitiate Program, Fr. Reilly is considered the ’first brother’ ensuring prayer life is strong and community values are upheld. The Novices experience a communal way of life, less interaction with the outside world, and internal work to discern their call to religious life on a deeper level.

“Before Augustine was called to the priesthood, he created a community of people including his mother and son. He intended to share all things in

common as well as discuss interior life. Augustine’s Rule has a high priority for us to create the conditions for the possibility of friendship. That’s powerful,” shared Reilly.

Having spent the previous 50 years serving in ministry, in university and secondary education, parish work, co-founding Siloam (a ministry for those affected by HIV/AIDS), serving as Prior Provincial, and more, Fr. Reilly indicates that he felt well-prepared for this new role as servant leader.

“One of my greatest joys in life has been working on behalf of students. The opportunity I had at Malvern to play a part in shaping students’ faith and character development was most rewarding. At the Novitiate I am teaching by living the way of life … in the same way I did at Malvern - knowing that people will not know St. Augustine unless they see it lived,” he remarked.

While life at the Novitiate is a slower pace than what he experienced as Head of School, it is no less rewarding for Fr. Reilly, who enjoys modeling the Augustinian life for the Novice students. “I wouldn’t trade my days at Malvern Prep for anything. It is God’s plan, and I will continue to follow His lead,” said Reilly.

In March, the Malvern Theatre Society performed Children of Eden, a joyous and inspirational musical about parents, children, and faith — not to mention centuries of unresolved family business! Matt Gray ’24 played the Father; Alex Kay ’24 played Adam/Noah; Nick Gazzillo ’25, Jack Heffner ’26, and Donnie Sadoff ’26 played the Snake; Nolan Murphy ’25 played Cain/ Japhth; Landon Nichols ’30 played Young Cain; Lincoln Stewart and Jack Stewart ’27 split the role of Young Abel; Nick Gazzillo also played Abel/Ham; and Seamus Brogan ’24 played Seth/ Shem. Adam, Eve, Noah, and the “Father” who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. Ourfield Premieres to a Sold-Out Crowd The Malvern Prep Production of Ourfield premiered to a sold-out crowd at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA, on February 9. The film, led by Mason Clark ’24 and Leonardo Scarpato ’24, was filmed during their travels in Brazil and took an in-depth look at Project Béisbol. Led by founder and CEO Justin Halladay ’95, Project Béisbol is a non-profit organization that introduces baseball to underserved youth across multiple cities, breaking down barriers of economic status, race, and gender with every swing of the bat.

Mateo Alban ’27 Raises $6K for Chester County Food Bank On Wednesday, January 24, Malvern Prep held a check presentation ceremony with freshman student, Mateo Alban ’27, who raised $6,000 for the Chester County Food Bank.

As the son of a first-generation immigrant from Peru, Mateo has witnessed firsthand the effects of poverty and food insecurity on the people who live there. So, when Mateo learned that even neighbors in his Chester County hometown struggle with food insecurity, he saw this as an opportunity to make an impact.

At 14 years old, with his tech skills and passion for giving back, Mateo raised $6,000 through a virtual food drive supporting the Chester County Food Bank, the central hunger relief organization in Chester County.

“Mateo’s passion for giving is a testament to the power of one individual to spark meaningful change,” said Andrea Youndt, CEO of the Chester County Food Bank. “Young people are the future, and their compassion will help lead the way in breaking the cycles of food insecurity.”

Mateo was inspired by the many opportunities at Malvern Prep to give back. One mentor who stands out to him is Mrs. Kelly Catania P’21’23, Director of Christian Service at Malvern Prep.

“We encourage our students to engage in Christian Service work that is meaningful for them. Mateo is a perfect example for other students and young people to show that they can make a difference, regardless of age, especially when they find a project that speaks to them,” shared Catania.

Head of School, Mr. Patrick Sillup added, “Mateo’s passion for this work is representative of the values we instill at Malvern Prep — preparing young men to become enterprising members of society who strive to make a difference in their community. We are so proud to have him as a member of our school community.”

Mateo hopes this serves as a reminder to his peers of the importance of giving back. “We are extremely fortunate to attend a school such as Malvern Prep,” he said, “and we need to work together to spread good, especially in our local community.” mp

Malvern Prep Celebrates Third Annual Caritas Carnival

On Wednesday, April 17, Malvern Prep’s campus was filled with fun and games for the third annual Caritas Carnival. In partnership with Sow Good Now, the School hosted over 300 children from local area elementary schools who otherwise would not be able to enjoy a field trip with their classmates.

The day’s festivities included carnival games, crafts, sports, and even a petting zoo! Guests were treated to lunch in Stewart Hall and snacked on carnival treats of cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cones throughout the day. The Chester County Food Bank was on hand to send students home with bags full of fresh local produce.

The day was made possible by Kelly Catania P’21’23, Director of Christian Service, and Mary Nassib P’08’11’14, Founder of Sow Good Now. Under their leadership, Upper School students, faculty, and staff volunteered throughout the campus to make the day a success!

“The Caritas Carnival serves as a powerful catalyst for our Friars, opening their minds and hearts to our school’s mission in tangible ways.

I’m delighted by the profound impact and the noticeable growth we’ve witnessed in recent years,” said Catania.

The Carnival kicked off with a message from Carl Nassib ’11, who remarked on how Malvern Prep’s mission helped shape his character and dedication to service. He challenged students to get involved in a project they believe in, invite a friend, and ignite their joy.

Student Diversity Leadership Conference

On November 29, 2023, six students and two faculty chaperones stepped off the plane in St. Louis, MO, ready to attend the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC). This multicultural gathering of students and teachers from around the country helps facilitate crucial conversations among small groups of individuals over several days.

about their experiences at Malvern. They felt empowered to speak while they were there [at the conference]. I had a student who spoke about that, who said that he felt empowered to speak about his issues since he found people like himself. Because of that empowerment, it encouraged them to speak about their own experiences,” Woo said.

The SDLC was a valuable and worthwhile experience for students and teachers. The students who attended were Syncere Harley ’26, Nate Padula ’24, Donnie Sadoff ’26, Seamus Brogan ’24, PJ Holmes ’25, and Cade Cooper ’27.

Woo spoke about this memorable experience as well as several takeaways he took from the conference.

Mr. Dante Coles and Mr. Caleb Woo chaperoned the trip. Both spoke on the importance of brotherhood and student development.

“The conference was an unbelievable experience to witness the personal growth and camaraderie that developed among the students. The trip showcased the beauty of the destinations we visited and the beauty of human connections and shared experiences. It’s something that will undoubtedly stay with me for a long time,” Coles said.

Coles described how this conference benefited the students and teachers who attended. He also explained how it can impact student leadership and diversity within the Malvern Community.

“This exposure is a great opportunity for our students to expand their horizons and develop a greater understanding of the diverse world around them. The interactions with people from various walks of life contribute to personal growth, giving a sense of openness and acceptance,” Coles said.

Mr. Woo weighed in on student empowerment and how it can benefit a place like Malvern Prep. He mentioned how students can feel motivated to share their perspectives.

“It’s beneficial for students because [they] get to find their voice. It’s especially helpful for students who may not have felt empowered to speak 12

It just really kickstarted a lot of questions in my head. How can we enrich the student experience here? Mr. Coles and I spoke a lot. Throughout the conference, we grew closer together as colleagues, and we were able to speak about a bunch of different issues, too. I also got to know some of the students that went. It’s not just a conference that I took things away from, but it was a relationship-building experience as well,” Woo said.

PJ Holmes, a junior at Malvern, explained how his eyes were opened after returning from St. Louis and how he would use these skills to better the community.

“It did open my eyes about coming back to Malvern and showing what it’s like to be able to just make friends. I know a lot of people here can make friends easily but it showed us how to make friends with people that are maybe not from the same state as you or do not have the same beliefs as you,” Holmes said.

Students and teachers both benefited from this conference. This multiracial gathering presents so many possibilities for improvement in our community.

Coles said, “These experiences outside our bubble contribute to the development of our students and play a pivotal role in creating a more globally aware and connected Malvern Community.” mp

Around Campus DelFra ’24 and Scarpato ’24 Place 1st in District 15 Debate Tournament Malvern Prep students showcased their debating expertise at the District 15 Debate Tournament, hosted by the Pennsylvania High School Speech League at Harriton High School on February 8. Among the three teams representing Malvern Prep, seniors Lou DelFra and Leonardo Scarpato won first place and secured a spot in the States Tournament on March 15 and 16.

Additionally, Malvern Prep’s team of Austin Trout ’25 and Mac Traynor ’25 placed third, while Alex March ’25 and Jimmy Bobbitt ’24 placed sixth. Their participation and contribution to the tournament highlight Malvern Prep’s commitment to excellence in speech and debate.

Each of the teams engaged in parliamentary debates, tackling numerous thought-provoking topics. From weighing the merits of wind energy versus solar power to deliberating on the implications of generative AI, and even analyzing the potential impact of the Hispanic vote in upcoming US elections, these students showcased their ability to engage in complex issues.

The Friar’s Lantern Staff Recognized by Student Keystone Media Awards Members of The Friar’s Lantern staff were recognized by the Student Keystone Media Awards. The Student Keystone Media Awards contest recognizes high school and college journalism that provides relevance, integrity, and initiative in serving readers.

Malvern Participates in Villanova University’s Sustainability Workshop Five students and four faculty members earned a Certificate of Sustainable Leadership in recognition of their participation in Villanova University’s Sustainability Workshop held on December 7, 2023.

Participants of this daylong event explored the many ways one can take personal and community action towards achieving an ethos of sustainable living. Topics included the circular and sharing economies, water consumption, food waste, and pathways to sustainable living. mp

Open to any student in Pennsylvania who has published work in their school paper, these awards are known for their fierce competition. With only three winners in each category, this achievement places The Friar’s Lantern staff among the top news reporters and filmmakers in the state.

Christian Service Trips Christian Service is a fundamental part of a Malvern Prep education. In addition to local opportunities within our community, all juniors and seniors have the opportunity to fulfill part of their Christian Service requirements by traveling domestically or internationally. During the 2023-2024 school year, students traveled to Flagstaff, AZ, and Marianna, FL, for service and fellowship. This June, three additional groups of Malvern Prep student volunteers traveled to the Dominican Republic and Chulucanas, Peru, to serve the local communities.

Ms. Teresa Lohse, Director of Global Programming, remarked on the importance of traveling to serve those in need, “Our students traveling on the Malvern Christian Service Trips positively impact communities around the world through their desire to serve and connect with the people they meet. At the same time, the communities have a profound effect on the students. They are forever changed.”

Flagstaff, AZ

On January 20, 16 Malvern Prep students and chaperones, Mr. Jeff Kinney and Mr. Andy Goyer, traveled to Marianna, FL, to provide natural disaster relief to Evangel Church and its surrounding community.

Arizona is known for its natural beauty and comfortable winter weather, creating a boom in visitors during the high season. As the tourism industry slows down in cooler months, it creates a cycle of instability for many families working in the hospitality industry.

The initial goal of the trip was to repair infrastructure damaged during Hurricane Michael in 2018. However, just before the group left for their trip, a tornado hit the town, leaving even more damage in its wake. The tumultuous weather left the group wondering if they should make the trip down to Florida. Mr. Kinney expressed that the need for their help was even greater due to the destruction left by the tornado.

After traveling from Pennsylvania, the group wasted little time getting to work.

The Malvern Prep volunteers helped clean storm debris at a local playground so children could return to playing on the equipment. In helping the community rebuild after the storms, Mr. Kinney led students in learning how to frame and build new walls for damaged structures.

A highlight of the trip was rebuilding a local produce stand run by Marianna resident, Mr. John. Mr. John operates JTS Produce in the parking lot of a gas station. He serves the community with a smile and his produce stand is vital to the sustainability of the community.

The work the team completed was laborious but greatly appreciated by the residents. When they were not working to rebuild, the group shared in fellowship with the Marianna community by visiting the CHROME Retreat House, a men’s retreat for discipleship and recovery with a focus on Christ and healing.

On February 14, 17 Malvern Prep students accompanied by chaperones, Mrs. Carol Waldmann and Mr. David Gueriera P’24, traveled to Flagstaff, AZ, with Rustic Pathways to address the issues residents experience with food insecurity during the winter months. The group volunteered with The Flagstaff Family Food Center and Food Bank, completing various tasks to help feed those in need in the Flagstaff area. Working in teams, they packed and loaded hundreds of bags of fresh produce and dry goods, and prepared hundreds of grab-and-go sandwiches to feed those impacted by food insecurity within the community.

Mrs. Carol Waldmann said, “It was gratifying to see people receiving the food we packed and seeing the appreciation firsthand.”

When the group was not serving those in the community, they explored the beautiful landscape of Flagstaff, Sedona, and Arcosanti. Highlights of their explorations were seeing the Grand Canyon, Sunset Crater, and stargazing at Lowell Observatory. mp

Throughout the trip the volunteers enjoyed wonderful meals together and even a lively game of football! The trip was a great success and a wonderful example of faith in action.

Malvern Prep Celebrates

EARTH

The beautiful spring weather provided the perfect backdrop as Malvern Prep’s Environmental Club hosted Earth Week celebrations.

On Monday, April 22, the Environmental Club invited all community members to join them in a Campus Clean-Up in honor of Earth Day. On Tuesday, Malvern Prep welcomed Simon Brooks, a Villanova Ph.D. student in Sustainable Engineering, to host a Lunch and Learn about Sustainability and Systems Thinking. Mr. Brooks also spoke to the group about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Earth Week celebrations continued on Wednesday with the planting of a new Eastern Redbud Flame Thrower tree near the entrance of Sullivan Hall. Before the tree was planted in the ground Rev. William Gabriel, O.S.A. provided a beautiful blessing and Mr. Ron Algeo ’87 P’15, Associate Head of School, reflected on the Feast of the Conversion of St. Augustine.

The week concluded with the annual Earth Fair in the Quad. Attendees enjoyed games, treats, and seed planting! Honey harvested by the Beekeeping Club was available for purchase at the fair. mp

The Robotics Team has its Best Competition Performance in its 22-year History!

The Malvern Prep Robotics team had the best performance in the School’s 22 years of competition. After months of preparation and outstanding performances in regional competitions, the team secured its spot among the elite contenders from around the world and traveled to Houston, TX, for the World Robotics Championship for the first time in school history!

“We are immensely proud of our team’s achievements,” said Dr. Kevin Quinn, Robotics moderator. “The team worked exceptionally hard to get to Worlds. Competing on the world stage is a dream come true.”

Before departing for the World Championship, the Malvern Prep Robotics Team was honored with a send-off after school in Malvern’s Quad.

While the team did not make it into the finals, the experience was one they hope to repeat next year.

Malvern Celebrates 50th Anniversary of BASH On April 20, 2024, Malvern Prep lit up the Donald F. O’Neill Sports Center to celebrate 50 years of BASH, marking half a century of unforgettable memories and community spirit. The hallway was lined with photographs capturing the essence of BASH over the decades, inviting guests to reminisce about the journey of this iconic event.

The milestone event included champagne walls, a diamond bracelet raffle, and a blend of silent and live auctions. A luxurious villa nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Tuscany was a high-bidding silent auction item, and the live auction included the ever-popular Graduation VIP package.

BASH 50 was graciously chaired by Mrs. Christine Mullen P’24 and Mrs. Colleen Tegler P’27, whose dedication and vision set the stage for an unforgettable evening. The BASH committee created an atmosphere full of excitement and anticipation.

Against the backdrop of lively music provided by the talented David Gustafson Band, over 350 guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails, dinner, camaraderie, and entertainment. After the last auction item was bid on and the last gift was tallied, the event had successfully raised over $330,000, a testament to the unwavering support and dedication of all who participated.

Malvern Prep Hosts Annual Learning Demonstration Day The enterprising spirit of the Malvern Prep student body was on full display at Learning Demonstration Day on March 22. Through various demonstrations, a gallery walk, and live presentations, guests were treated to student projects covering a range of topics from Novel Writing to Integrated Sciences. CLASS OF 2025

Celebrates Junior Ring Mass

The class of 2025 marked a pivotal moment in their journey at Malvern Prep with the Junior Ring Mass on Wednesday, April 10. This celebration marks the initial steps in the students’ ascension to the senior class and is a physical representation of their lifelong connection to Malvern Prep and its Brotherhood.

The day began with a morning retreat to celebrate, reflect, and further develop their brotherhood as a class. Following the retreat, students joined their parents and guardians in Our Mother of Good Counsel Chapel for Mass. Rev. Christopher J. Drennen, O.S.A. ’73 presided over the Mass and blessed each student’s ring and medal during the Ring Ceremony.

As the echoes of prayers and blessings filled the Chapel, the significance of the moment was felt. For each student, receiving their ring symbolized not only a tangible connection to Malvern Prep but also a testament to their growth as individuals and leaders within the community.

Senior Liam Canavan spoke to the junior class and reflected upon his ceremony last year. “This is the day that juniors accept their place at Malvern as leaders in the school. It may not seem like it, but today is when your senior year begins,” he shared. “There are many moments within the Malvern experience that we tend to brush off, and once you arrive at the end, like me, you may realize how much those moments truly mean. This is one of those moments, just like your freshman-year Brotherhood Ceremony.”

After Mass, students and their families were invited to celebrate with a luncheon on the Brotherhood Lawn. As the class of 2025 embraces their roles as upperclassmen, they also embrace the importance of leadership, poised to make a meaningful impact within the school community and beyond. mp

AT THE SCHOOL’S 98TH COMMENCEMENT

Malvern Prep’s 98th Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement were held on June 4, 2024, on the Wolfington Plaza Lawn of Our Mother of Good Counsel Chapel. Family, friends, and the Malvern Prep Community gathered together to pay tribute to the 120 seniors of the class of 2024 for their accomplishments, commitment to service, and the strong bonds of brotherhood they have formed.

The Mass was presided over by Rev. Robert Hagan, O.S.A., Prior Provincial of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova, and concelebrated by Rev. Louis A. DelFra, CSC ’88 T, Rev. Christopher J. Drennen, O.S.A. ’73, Rev. William C. Gabriel, O.S.A., Rev. Michael Riggs, O.S.A., and Rev. Donald F. Reilly, O.S.A., DMin. PT. During his homily, Fr. Hagan addressed the class of 2024, reminding the graduates that they have continued on page 22 20

flourished during their time at Malvern noting, “It’s not how you begin but how you finish.” He urged the graduates to be change-makers in our divided world.

“You might not always get your first choice, you might not always get what you hoped and prayed for. To have the humility and understanding … to know that as leaders our job may not be to get to the top of the mountain first, it may be to stay at the bottom and hold the ladder so that other people can get ahead of us. Augustine would call that servant leadership, and Lord knows our world needs it,” explained Fr. Hagan.

Class Speaker Phil Tabasso ’24 addressed his classmates hailing them as one of the best classes to ever graduate from Malvern Prep.

Speaking on the incredible athletic success of the year, Tabasso commented, “We have crushed our enemies and driven them before us … it should not have been possible for us to simultaneously dominate our opponents and carry ourselves with the dignity only befitting Malvern students. The reputation this class has made of Malvern Prep athletics is one of both triumph and respect.”

Addressing his classmates he stressed, “You have something other graduates do not … Malvern has taught us to succeed … we’ve all learned

to succeed in our own way. For the rest of your life, there should be no challenge that should lay you low because you are ready — you have been given the tools to succeed.”

This year’s Commencement Speaker was Dr. Brian Ostick ’99. Dr. Ostick started by recognizing his father, Mr. John Ostick P’99’07’13, who will retire this year after having taught at Malvern for 39 years. Recognizing his Dad, the crowd honored Mr. Ostick with a standing ovation.

“The Augustinian values shine through all of these extracurricular activities that other schools don’t have. They provide a framework for building these young men who come out [of Malvern Prep] and have

a true moral compass that will hopefully point north for the rest of their lives,” commented Ostick.

Offering some practical advice to the graduates, Ostick shared three lessons he has learned: the importance of time management, staying out of debt, and caring for themselves and their Friar brothers.

Finally, Mr. Patrick Sillup, Head of School, addressed the graduates, “My gratitude to you, class of 2024, is that you have balanced both the bitter and the sweet. You have established roots that I hope and pray will last a lifetime, and you have added to our proverbial landscape in ways only you can. And that is why this is such a bittersweet moment.” mp

Five Seniors Honored for Military Appointments On Wednesday, May 15, five seniors were honored for their commitment to serving in the United States Military following graduation.

Mr. David Monigal, from the West Point Admissions Field Force, began the ceremony by recognizing John Majka ’24 and Shane Reilly ’24 on their admission into The United States Military Academy. “It is not an easy place to get in or an easy place to be but the best place to be from,” he shared.

Drawing parallels between Malvern Prep and West Point, he emphasized the expectations of responsibility and its profound importance, both during their time at school and throughout life.

Following Mr. Monigal’s heartfelt words, Captain Kevin O’Connor welcomed Logan Reed ’24, who was commissioned into the Army through the ROTC Program at the University of Georgia. Captain O’Connor expressed confidence in Reed’s character, work ethic, and leadership potential, affirming the Army’s trust in him.

Captain Megan Salinas recognized Daniel Milliken ’24, who was commissioned into the Navy through Villanova University’s ROTC program, and Aidan Regan ’24, who was commissioned into the Navy through the ROTC program at Penn State University. “In the civilian world, at the end of your work day, you go home... and work stays at work. In the military, those people that you are responsible for; you are responsible for them 24 hours a day,” Salinas remarked, underscoring the commitment demanded by military service.

Friar Sports Highlights The 2023-2024 winter and spring seasons brought more historic wins and reasons to celebrate for Malvern Prep Athletics.

Winter Sports Wrap-Up

Malvern Prep Basketball finished the season 16-10 with a record of 5-5 in the Inter-Ac. Senior Guard Ryan Williams celebrated his 1,000th career point in front of a packed house at the O’Neill Sports Center. On the ice, Malvern Prep Ice Hockey celebrated another successful season finishing with a record of 11-6-0-3. In the pool, Malvern Prep Swimming closed out a 3-5 season with impressive league wins against Penn Charter and Episcopal. The team placed 8th in both of their championship meets, National Catholics in January and Easterns in February.

Malvern Prep Wrestling finished 6th in the Nation with season highlights including taking 3rd at National Preps, a 6th place finish at Ironman, 3rd at Beast of the East, and 3rd at Powerade. Malvern Prep Squash moved up divisions and began competing in Division IV for the first time. Season highlights included the team’s win over Radnor High School and winning consolation 1 in the High School National Championship.

Malvern Prep’s Winter Track team was the largest in school history, with over 30 athletes joining the squad! The team took their talents across the region competing against some of the best track stars in the nation with several athletes qualifying for the Greater Philadelphia Area Meet of Champions.

ICE HOCKEY

The momentum of the winter pushed us into the spring season. Malvern Prep Baseball celebrated the dedication and opening of their new turf field on Saturday, April 13. The team had a historic season finishing with a 34-3 record — the second most wins in the school’s history with a perfect 18-0 at-home record.

They capped off their season with winning the PAISAA State Championship title for the second year in a row.

The highlight of the Malvern Lacrosse season was defeating The Haverford School 9-6 to win the National Prep Championship at Loyola University on May 19. The team finished the season ranked #3 in the country. On the water, Malvern Prep Rowing had a strong season that started with winning the Horvat Points Trophy from the Manny Flick Series. At SRAA Nationals Malvern qualified a boat in every sculling event — a huge accomplishment! Fourteen Friars qualified for USRowing Scholastic Youth Nationals in Sarasota, FL. Malvern Prep Rugby traveled overseas to Italy to compete and break bread with local teams. While back in the States, Malvern Tennis won their first league match in several years with a victory over Penn Charter! Malvern Track & Field finished 4th in the Inter-Ac Championship finals and an impressive 5th in the PAISAA State Championships.

PLAYER RECOGNITION:

SEASON SUMMARY: The 2023-2024 Malvern Prep Ice Hockey season was very successful despite not taking home the Flyers Cup. The Friars found their way back into the championship game for the third time in four years. Their schedule this season was one of the toughest schedules this team has faced in recent years, playing strong games against teams like St. John’s College High School and the Landon School in Maryland. They also faced tough competition against Seton Hall Prep and Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey. The team finished 11-6-0-3. The season was led by the strong leadership of captains Jeremy Jacobs ’24 and Brady Doyle ’24, along with their assistant captains Brayden Baum ’24, Aidan Kelly ’24, and Caiden Canale ’24. Jonathan Holt ’24, Teague Murray ’25, Pax Hoishik ’26, and Henry Tesoriero ’26 helped provide depth on the offensive side of the puck. Additionally, the defense was anchored by Cole Scarbinsky ’26, Matt Barbacane ’25, Colin Inskeep ’25, Logan Love ’26, and Peter Narog ’27. In between the pipes, Matt Crawford ’25 faced a lot of shots and had many outstanding saves and wins this season.

The Friars look to rebound in the off-season with incoming players and players moving through the middle school pipeline. The talent within the program is flourishing and the Friars are excited to get back to work! mp SPRING/SUMMER • MALVERN MAGAZINE

WINTER TRACK SEASON SUMMARY: The 2023-2024 Malvern Prep Winter Track team was the largest in school history with over 30 athletes joining the squad. This very talented and very young group competed against the best track and field athletes in the state, region, and country. Several athletes qualified for the Greater Philadelphia Area Meet of Champions: Will Cipollone ’25 (shot put), Jalen Bowman ’27 (60 meters, long jump), Chase Ecker ’25 (60 meters, long jump), and the 4x200 meter relay consisting of Chase Ecker ’25, Nick Hollander ’25, Owen Hammond ’25, and Jalen Bowman ’27. Team MVP Will Cipollone ’25 set the school record in the shot put with a toss of 54’ 2.5” and, in the process, qualified for the PTFCA State Championship meet and the New Balance National Meet. Jalen Bowman ’27 (60 meters, long jump), Chase O’Keefe ’27 (800 meters), and Pierce Nevins ’27 (800 meters) qualified for the freshman division at Nationals in their respective events as well. mp

SEASON SUMMARY: The 2023-2024 Malvern Prep Basketball season got off to a great start winning their first six games, all against undefeated opponents. The team also got to celebrate senior guard Ryan Williams ’24 scoring his 1,000th point in front of the home crowd at the O’Neill Sports Center. After Christmas, the team traveled down to Richmond, VA, for a tournament at Benedictine College Prep where they finished third and enjoyed some bonding time on the road with their teammates. The Inter-Ac league was very competitive and Malvern Prep Basketball finished 5-5 in the league and enjoyed some great victories in front of Friar Nation along the way. The team finished out their season at 16-10 overall with a tough 3-point loss to a very talented Academy of the New Church team in the first round of the PAISAA Tournament. mp 34

Malvern Prep Debuts First Athletic Giving Day, Blue & White Day Malvern Prep launched its inaugural Blue & White Day campaign this year with tremendous success. Blue & White Day is an annual athletics initiative supporting the Friar Club and Malvern Prep Athletics. The first leg of our campaign took place on September 22, 2023, rallying support for fall and winter sports, while the second leg followed on February 23, 2024, championing winter and spring athletics. Together, these efforts yielded an impressive result, with over 375 gifts totaling $155,000, a testament to the unwavering commitment and passion for athletics within the Malvern Prep Community.

SEASON SUMMARY: The 2023-2024 season was a successful and fun one in the pool for the Friars!

The team was filled with young talent as well as strong leadership from the upperclassmen. The dual meet season closed out at 3-5 with impressive league wins against Penn Charter and Episcopal, and a non-league win over The Hill School. The team placed 8th in both of their championship meets, National Catholics in January and Easterns in February. Malvern Prep had five swimmers make the all-league team and four swimmers with All-American consideration times. mp

Blue & White Day supports the Friar Club and Malvern Prep Athletics by generating funds to ensure our student-athletes have access to top-tier equipment, facilities, and programs. Each of our athletic programs operates its budget through the Friar Club, enabling them to offset expenses not covered by the school’s operating budget, including overnight team trips and state-of-the-art equipment.

Recently, funds from the Friar Club have provided our basketball team with a new shooting machine, our hockey team with new gloves, and a new sound system and signage for the Pellegrini Athletic Complex.

“The overwhelming support of Blue & White Day speaks volumes about the dedication and passion of our community,” shares Mr. Jim Stewart, Jr. ’86, Head of Athletics. “The generosity and support of our donors will empower our student-athletes to pursue their dreams, both on and off the field, and will provide vital resources to enhance our athletic programs.”

The 2023-2024 season was an exciting one for Malvern Prep Squash as they moved up divisions and began competing in Division IV for the first time. Season highlights included the team’s win over Radnor High School and winning consolation 1 in the High School National Championship. Malvern Prep Athletics is proud to share that Colby Komancheck ’27 finished third overall in the Boys 14-15 Division at the 2024 National Drive, Chip & Putt Championship (DCP) on Sunday, April 7. The event took place at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

The DCP takes place each year on the Sunday before The Masters Tournament, which features the best professional golfers in the world competing on the sport’s biggest stage.

In the competition, each player hits two drives, two chips & two putts to accumulate the most points among fellow competitors. Colby was able to win the drive portion of the competition with the longest drive of 283 yards. It was a wonderful day under sunny blue skies at the most spectacular venue in all of golf!

Thanks to strong team contributions, Malvern Wrestling took home first at Escape the Rock, PAISAA Dual Team Champions, and finished as Inter-Ac Champions!

Malvern Prep Rugby Travels to Italy The Malvern Prep Rugby team took their fourth international tour in March with a trip to Italy. Thirty-three players joined their coaches, families, and Malvern Prep chaperones for an immersive Italian experience. Led by Irish Rugby Tours the team trained, played, explored, and broke bread with Polisportiva S.S. Lazio Rugby 1927 in Rome, Firenze Rugby in Florence, and Rugby Paese in Treviso.

The group took in the incredible sights and sounds of Italy with visits to the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel, and even attended Easter Mass at the Treviso’s Cathedral of San Pietro Apostolo.

The team took a Roman gladiator training course in Rome, learned to make pasta in Florence, and enjoyed gondola rides in Venice. The trip concluded with the team attending a United Rugby Championship match between Benetton Treviso and Connacht Rugby. mp

Malvern Prep Baseball Earns Second Straight PAISAA State Championship Title

The Malvern Prep Community gathered in the Quad on May 30, to celebrate the Varsity Baseball team winning the PAISAA State Championship title on Saturday, May 25. The team defeated Perkiomen School for the second straight year with a score of 13-4. Under the leadership of Head Varsity Baseball Coach, Fred Hilliard, this was the team’s 11th consecutive appearance in the PAISAA State final game.

Highlights of the game included senior Tague Davis striking out six batters in four innings, allowing just one earned run. Andrew Pellicciotta ’25 dominated on offense, reaching base in all five of his at-bats including a home run and four RBIs. Sophomore Brady Abate scored two runs and was on base in all four of his plate appearances.

The celebration began with a prayer from Rev. William Gabriel, O.S.A. who spoke on the moment right before the Championship game when senior leaders got in touch with him to have a Mass before the game. The players joined together to pray, connect, remember their special bonds, and thank God for each other.

Coach Hilliard remarked on the team, saying, “When I think about this group, one word comes to mind: ‘special.’ Not just the talent and the performances on the field this year, but the kind of human beings they are off the field. They embody everything that this school stands for. Their selflessness and the way they get along and care about each other and the school, they are the perfect embodiment of what Malvern Prep is all about.”

The team will go down as one of the best in the history of Malvern Prep, finishing with a 34-3 the record most wins in a season for Coach Hilliard and his coaching staff. Nine players have been named All-League, the most by one school for one Inter-Ac team ever. Mr. Jim Stewart Jr. ’86 remarked on the success of the squad by saying, “Being able to celebrate back-to-back state championships is truly remarkable. This win demonstrates the commitment of the players and coaching staff — we are so proud of all the team has accomplished this season.” mp

SEASON SUMMARY: Malvern Prep’s Varsity Baseball team celebrated a historic season finishing with a 34-3 record, the second most wins in the school’s history with a perfect 18-0 at-home record. In addition to being named Inter-Ac and PAISAA State Champions, the team was nationally ranked in multiple publications. Through a team effort, they broke numerous school records including the school record for run differential, outscoring opponents 295-76, a cumulative record-breaking team ERA of 1.54, and the stolen base record with 149. They finished the season as the #1 team in Pennsylvania. mp

ROWING PLAYER RECOGNITION: Cormac Rooney ’24 - 2k record holder for Malvern Prep

SEASON SUMMARY: Malvern Prep Rowing had a strong season that started with winning the Horvat Points Trophy from the Manny Flick Series. The team then went on to medal in five events (winning three) at the Philadelphia City Championship. At the Stotesbury Cup Regatta three boats made the final. At the Mid-Atlantic Championship four boats finished in qualifying positions for the Youth National Championship and the 2v 2x of Nick Mejzak ’26 and Finn Kennedy ’26 won their event! At SRAA Nationals Malvern qualified a boat in every sculling event — a huge accomplishment. The Varsity 4x ended up finishing second — .6 seconds behind Burnt Hills and 3 seconds ahead of Haverford. mp

RUGBY SEASON SUMMARY: The Malvern Prep Rugby team had an outstanding spring season, marked by a blend of remarkable brotherhood, growth, and resilience. The season began with intense training sessions that honed the players’ fitness and work ethic over the off-season.

Under the guidance of an all-alumni coaching staff, the team embraced a rigorous regimen, focusing on lifting each other up. The season kicked off with a 37-0 victory over St. John’s Prep (Washington, D.C.). The team brought home the St. Augustine Cup in March in a match that came down to the final possession, where Malvern marched down the field to score a go-ahead try as time expired. The defense 40

dominated the gain line, constantly putting the opposition under pressure and creating turnovers. Team captains Alex Gueriera ’24, Aidan Regan ’24, and Josh Gorman ’25 led by example and always pushed to get the best out of the boys. The backline showcased impressive chemistry, orchestrating champagne ploys that often left the opposition scrambling. Standout players like Luke Pajan ’24 and Ryan Todd ’24 made significant contributions. The season culminated in a home victory over La Salle, reflecting the team’s grit and resilience. The rugby team not only achieved commendable results, but also fostered a deep sense of brotherhood among the players. This spring stands out as the most successful season in recent history. mp

TENNIS PLAYER RECOGNITION: Hayden Fisher ’24 – First Team All-Inter-Ac

SEASON SUMMARY: With a new coaching staff in place, the 2024 Malvern Tennis team began its journey towards building a winning program. The team was led by Co-Captains Hayden Fisher ’24, Daniel Simpson ’24, and Drew Opperman ’24. The team battled a very competitive non-league schedule, as well as the unpredictable weather that the spring delivers. Overall, the goal was to get as many matches played in order to be ready for the very difficult league play. In the Inter-Ac competition, the team battled vigorously against some of the top players in the Philadelphia region. Despite losses, the team kept practicing and developing their skills to be in a position to face the second round of team matches. Again, as with the previous matches, the team came incredibly close to achieving a victory. With one match to go, Malvern hosted Penn Charter which would define the season. Despite falling short early, Malvern rallied and took the final four courts to seal the victory, finally winning their first league match in several years. This victory not only represented our season of hard work, but it was the signature victory for a group of seniors who have been with this program their entire time at Malvern, thus, setting the table for a very promising future. mp

TRACK & FIELD PLAYER RECOGNITION: Will Cipollone ’25 – First Team All-Inter-Ac Ryan Woerner ’26 – Second Team All-Inter-Ac

SEASON SUMMARY: The Track and Field team finished its dual meet season with a record of 4-2 in the extremely competitive Inter-Ac League. They also finished 4th in the Inter-Ac Championship finals and 5th in the PAISAA State Championship. The team was led by MVP Will Cipollone ’25 who set the outdoor track school record in the shot put (53’ 11”), won the discus at the Inter-Ac Championship, and took 3rd in the PAISAA Championship in the javelin, completing the rare “throwers triple.”

Ryan Woerner ’26 set a new school record in the triple jump with a leap of 45’ 1” and finished the season ranked as the #3 sophomore in the state of Pennsylvania in that event. Freshman event records were set by Max Ortega ’27 in the shot put (45’ 2.5”) and Gunner Benedix ’27 in the high jump (6’ 0”). The team’s outlook is strong in the future as Malvern Prep is bringing back 100% of its scoring athletes. mp

Malvern Prep Coaches vs. Cancer Week Raises $3,300 The Malvern Prep Community rallied together in March to support Coaches vs. Cancer Week. The Coaches vs. Cancer program has united coaches and fans over the last 30 years to raise funds to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families with support and research. Through donations and merchandise sales, the Malvern Prep Community raised $3,300!

Mr. Jim Stewart ’86, Head of Athletics, shared his gratitude by saying, “Thank you to all the members of the Malvern Prep Community that came together this week to support Coaches vs.

Malvern Prep Opens New Turf Fields

The success of Malvern Prep’s athletic program is largely due to the coaching staff, players, and their combined commitment to winning. In recent years, the Friars have maintained a level of unprecedented excellence with nationally recognized Lacrosse, Football, Baseball, Wrestling, and Crew teams, as well as student-athletes garnering numerous individual awards and committing to continue their athletic careers at some of the top colleges in the country.

Athletics is a true testament to our Core Values of Truth, Unity, and Love, and the spirit of brotherhood is felt just as deeply and intrinsically on the field of play as it is within any other platform on our campus.

With 93% of our student body participating in athletics, the athletic facilities are heavily stressed, particularly Quigley Field, as the only turf field maintained by the School. Bearing that in mind, the Campus Master Planning Committee paid special attention and focused on our athletic facilities when they met three years ago to set campus planning goals.

In the fall of 2023, the School began the installation of two additional turf fields — a varsity baseball field and a multipurpose field. By mid-April, construction on the varsity baseball field was completed, and the team could hold competition on the field.

The additional turf fields provide all teams — varsity, non-varsity, intramural groups, and physical education classes — the opportunity to participate year-round and without scheduling conflicts or weather interference. mp

Malvern Prep Lacrosse Captures National Prep Championship Title

Malvern Prep Lacrosse faced their Inter-Ac League rival, The Haverford School, on Sunday, May 19, for the Victory Events National Prep Championship at Loyola University’s Ridley Complex. This was the third match-up for the Fords and Friars in the 23-24 season. In their first two meetings, the Fords took home the victory but the final Championship meeting would leave the Friars victorious with a score of 9-6.

Michael Ortlieb ’25 led Malvern’s attack with 5 goals including a momentum-changing goal to tie the score in the third quarter. Heath Jones ’25 anchored the defense with a strong performance in goal coming up with 6 saves. In the midfield, Nick Wehmeyer ’24 captured 8 of 17 faceoffs for the Friars. Owen Mears ’25, Jake Bickel ’25, and Ennis Udo ’24 each added a goal and an assist to help the Friars clinch the win.

Coach Matt Mackrides ’08 shared his pride in his team: “I’m extremely proud of our team and their efforts this year. We are grateful for the challenges and experiences that the 2024 season provided and are very thankful to have concluded our season with such a memorable win in a

championship game. Our captains and senior class set the standard for our team and their leadership will be difficult to replace.”

The Friars finished the season 21-3 with big wins over nationally ranked opponents like St. Anthony’s, NY; Salesianum School, DE; Boys’ Latin, MD; Culver Military Academy, IN; Calvert Hall, MD; and La Salle College High School, PA. Jim Stewart ’86, Head of Athletics, remarked on the success of the team, “We could not be prouder of our lacrosse program. To have the opportunity to perform on a national stage is something our players and coaches will never forget. The road that led us there is filled with many positive memories to be proud of.”

Malvern Prep postgrad alum, Paul Westhead ‘57, was among the distinguished individuals selected for induction into the 2024 Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame. Westhead attended West Catholic High School and graduated from Malvern Prep as a postgrad in 1957. His remarkable journey from his days as a basketball player at Malvern Prep to his illustrious coaching career across high school, collegiate, and professional levels has earned him this well-deserved honor.

During his time at Malvern Prep, Westhead showcased exceptional talent on the basketball court and was named First Team All-League in 1957. He then continued his collegiate basketball career at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

Lauren Whelan DeYenno, daughter of Lou DeYenno ’66, married Paul Williams Roth on Sunday, April 21, at Terrain in Glen Mills, PA. Congratulations!

The year was 1954, the competition was the 27th Scripps Spelling Bee Championship, the word was “transept,” and the winner was Malvern Prep’s own William Cashore ’58! William was only 14 years old and a student at Malvern Prep when he won his title, making him the oldest living Spelling Bee Champion. He still has vivid memories of the competition and the celebrations that followed. The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and People recently featured Mr. Cashore’s accomplishments, his love of language, and his advice for this year’s Spelling Bee participants.

Frank Esposito ’67 was inducted into the Brandywine Enduro Riders (BER) Hall of Fame on February 13, 2024. BER is the highest-rated Motorcycle Off Road Racing and Enduro Club in the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). Frank also accepted a new board position with Tru Moto, a startup company of Motorcycle Apparel and Helmets.

Don Mancini ’67, along with many of his classmates, will be celebrating their 75th birthday this year. His son, Greg, lives in Atlanta, GA, with his wife and three children, Aidan (8), Dominic (8), and Ethan (5). His daughter Wynne, who graduated from VMA in 1999, works for the United States State Department.

Emmet Fitzgerald ’73 retired from his second career in teaching in 2022. He taught grades 3-8 at St. Katharine of Siena, Malvern Prep, and other local Catholic elementary schools. Emmet and his wife, Vanessa purchased a second home in Cape Coral, FL, in 2022, where they spend half of the year. He was recently honored by the Markward Basketball Club of Philadelphia for his basketball accomplishments at Malvern Prep. His spare time is spent with their two dogs, Abbie and Finley. Emmet recently attended the successful 50th Anniversary dinner for the class of 1973.

Stephen Scheuerle ’76 is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his law firm, Hohn & Scheuerle, with the opening of the New York office to add to its practice in PA and NJ. On January 27, Kevin Kiesel ’77, and his Fairfield University 1998 Team were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. In its third year as an NCAA I-AA (now called FCS) program, Kevin and the 1998 Fairfield football team put together the finest season of its varsity history. Head Coach Kiesel led the Stags to a 9-2 overall record and a MAAC Championship with a 7-1 mark against conference opponents. Kevin was also named MAAC Coach of the Year.

Scott Dimeler ’86 relocated to Fort Worth, TX, after living in the United Arab Emirates for four years. He is working at Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant as an Operations Trainer.

Winston (Win) Tierney ’89 retired in 2021 after 28 years of honorable service as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps. A combat-decorated veteran, he published his first book, No Legacy Here, in 2002 with McFarland Publishing. No Legacy Here is a controversial critique of weak military policy and what lay in the wake of the Iraq War for many a veteran. Win has a daughter in her freshman year at NC State, and he lives quietly in southern Germany with his wife and three youngest children, working as an independent consultant on Theater Security Cooperation, Building Partner Capacity, and Crisis Response in Africa.

1990s ______________________________________________________________________________ Brian Zamrowski ’94 made a career change on January 1, 2024, that is very near and dear to his personal goals. He is now working for both Futures Recovery Healthcare and Spirence. Both company’s missions are to help anyone that is hurting from alcohol, drugs, or mental wellness.

He is assisting in outreach and business development roles. Kiesel’s coaching career spans almost 30 years, including coaching at the US Naval Academy (Annapolis), University of Kentucky, Temple University, West Chester University, Fordham University, and Gettysburg College. He started his Head Coaching tenure at Albright College followed by Fairfield University, Millersville University, and Guilford College.

1980s ______________________________________________________ William Brennan ’80 recently retired as the President of Resilient Infrastructure and relocated to Pawleys Island, SC,. He now hosts a radio show, Will of the People, on 94.5 WTKN. He was recommissioned in the South Carolina State Guard in the Professional Services Engineering Command.

American Treatment Network (ATN), founded by Matthew Sullivan ’82, is an integrated behavioral health platform company and it has opened its fifth location on the campus of Crozer Health. Jim McCans ’82 and Matt Taylor ’82 P’11’18’20 PT both helped launch ATN in 2021.

Recently Promoted Lieutenant Colonel Reitano ’01, currently serving as the Professor of Military Science and Department Chair at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, graduated in December 2023 with a Doctor of Education in Applied Studies in Aviation and Space Education from Oklahoma State University.

Bill Russo ’05 recently stepped down as Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs, leading the State Department’s international communications operation. Bill and his wife Alice welcomed their second child, Ellie, to the family in April, joining proud big brother Will.

In December 2023, Craig A. Ford, Jr. ’06 published “Our New Galileo Affair,” an essay that had previously won the 2022 Catherine Mowry LaCugna Award. The LaCugna Award is granted by the Catholic Theological Society of America for Best Theological Essay written by a young scholar. In recognition of his overall impact on the field, Dr. Ford received the 2022 Donald B. King Distinguished Scholar Award from St. Norbert College.

Over Thanksgiving Weekend, Toby Booker ’96 P’28 T and Coby Booker ’28 visited Richmond, VA, to watch the Richmond Spiders play in the first round of the FCS Playoffs. They met up with D’Angelo Stocker ’22, who played for the Spiders while they were there!

In addition to receiving recognition for his scholarly work, Dr. Ford has also received several other distinctions. In 2022, Dr. Ford not only won both the Founder’s Award and the Beloved Community Social Justice Award from St. Norbert College; he also was recognized as one of Green Bay, Wisconsin’s “Future 15,” an honor bestowed on the region’s most promising young professionals.

John Scargall ’08 was elected President of Toastmasters of Delaware County this past July and will currently serve in that role for the remainder of the Toastmasters year in 2024.

CJ Mooney ’09 and his daughter reunited with friend and classmate JK Poirier ’09 with his two boys and daughter.

While completing his PhD at MIT, Dr. Tyler Susko ’03 specialized in rehabilitation robotics, developing an innovative robotic machine that delivered a new form of therapy to individuals with brain injuries. This work led to the creation of the Cadense Original shoes, a practical, low-cost adaptation of the million-dollar robot he designed at MIT. This year, Cadense is projected to pass $1M in its first calendar year.

2010s _______________________________________________________ Dr. Rob Dollfus ’11 recently opened an additional location for Chesterbrook Dental Associates in Phoenixville, PA, with the help of Mom, Dad, and brother, Jon ’14.

On Thursday, March 14, the Malvern Prep Alumni Association hosted its annual Alumni Business Networking Night in the St. Augustine Center for Social Impact. The event brought together a diverse group of alumni from different graduating classes, representing industries such as business services, real estate, tech/engineering, and healthcare/life sciences. The event provided an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with former classmates and network in both large-group and small-group breakout sessions.

Attendees were greeted with introductions from Mr. Patrick Sillup, Head of School, and event organizer, Bobby Malonoski ’05. Guest speaker, Emily Lucking, Executive and Personal Development Coach, shared insights with the group, highlighting Malvern Prep’s Core Values of Truth, Unity, and Love as guiding principles in life.

“Witnessing our alumni come together, not only to reconnect but to forge new partnerships, share insights, and support one another professionally, emphasizes the strength and energy of our alumni community,” shared Mary Fran Frankenheimer P’21, Director of Alumni Relations. “I am so proud of our alumni and look forward to witnessing the continued growth and impact of our network in the years to come.”

Alumni Kieran Cullen ’17 received his wings as a naval aviator in January at a ceremony at Whiting Field. He is now set to move to Jacksonville, FL, to continue his training at HSM-40 as a pilot on the MH-60 Romeo helicopter.
