~LOVE COMFORTETH LIKE SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN~

These words originate from Shakespeare’s first published work, the poem “Venus and Adonis,” and still ring true, like many of the thousands of words invented by Shakespeare.

Love does bring us comfort in times of strife. And so, we dedicate this book of original “Shakespearean sonnets” to all of our Malvern Community family as we quarantine at home during this COVID19 pandemic.

May the written voices of our many freshmen bring you smiles and joy during this difficult time.

A Natural Beauty By: Joaquin Alban A blessing given to us from above

The shiny light and Selene’s dark of night

The gentle breeze from trees keeps me in love Changing seasons, such a beautiful sight

The nature of us and how we were made A wonder never to be understood

The beautiful green trees perfectly staid

Nature’s marvel bring back my childhood Yet ever changing, always on the move

My place of ease is always the outdoors A natural beauty to never remove

I’d rather be outdoors than doing chores

With wind’s slight whisper through their budding greens, Who shimmer casting shadows oh so fine This path in nature - bright with many scenes.

The daffodils do tout their trumpets proud Announce spring’s welcome crisp and bright cool air, And through blue skies the robin sings so loud To call, a sweet song melody, a prayer.

We lean upon her song like an old friend Whose words of wisdom raise a calming beat, Reminding us that Mother Earth will mend When all we feel around us is defeat.

So feel the warmth of sunshine on your face As Gaea2 mends your soul with Her sweet grace.

The sound of the piano is so nice It goes to bring me to the brink of tears It goes to melt a heart of stone-cold ice And those who hear will always give a cheer

The writers of the songs are just so great They go to make a pretty work of art Then those of young to will go to recreate The works of art that do not fall apart

Piano is not hard to master now There are teachers that will educate you With e ort it will be useful to thou And thou will look back to see how thy grew

Piano is a work of art itself To bring joy to others and to thyself

The gentle winds drift through the blades of grass While birds sing songs of merriment and joy Flamboyant trees run through the large landmass This is the season that we all enjoy

Young children scamper all around the park With faces gleaming like the fresh flowers Extending day reducing all the dark Sprouting new plants up like they’re bugs towers

But hear the sweet crack of Bryce Harper’s bat A sound that fills thy soul with pep and thrill And thou shalln’t keep your eyes from looking at These traits that other seasons can’t fulfill

What time of year can make thy worries small?

Freedom’s Opportunity By: Carson Myers As they did fight for us and not themselves We take the pleasure of a sunny day They never hung their helmets on the shelves They keep on fighting while we sit and pray

And for their families, we know they so yearn To hold them close and hug them in rejoice And while they yearn we stay in class to learn Their courage heard, unheard does go their voice

We use our voices with no fear of death And here at home each year we cast our vote While they, away, fight for their final breath These words flow on to leave you with a note

The whistle blows and the game has begun It is well known as a one bullet war Get the bullet while running in the sun It moves swiftly through the air when you score

The exhausting heat is tiring me But I will never stop moving my feet Sweat starts to drip, I am wet like the sea But the dedication can not be beat

Time is winding down and the game is tied I attack the goal and do a quick spin “Shoot the ball right now!” my coach loudly cried The ball hits the net, my team gets the win

It is over now, victory is ours We celebrate, then off to the showers

From the heavens above came an angel Her voice like the land from which she came from Perfect from every side, every angle She saved me from my neverending glum

I laid my eyes upon a pleasing scene The crisp, fresh air coursed all its way through me I gazed around and grasped the stunning green The blue and white pure like the clouds and seas

Now soon as suddenly the blue eclipsed

Light white shown down gleaming through all about Chirping crickets like chime a baby’s cry Silent globe now slowly all fell unbound

Yet the bright crack of light now stilled the peace The dawn waking ready to now move on Zestful ground rise likewise all now released Now Ra blazing bright light through all upon

The Love of Lacrosse

The player, like a bird, glides on the field.

The defense locks up the team’s offenders The offense must break the D’s sturdy shield.

With lacrosse the strenuous sport they play, Requiring physicality, finesse.

Only the best will play on the gameday.

It is hard to become the very best.

Sometimes you will want to stop, to leave, to quit.

These difficult games that do test your style.

Practice you will relish the end of it.

How could a sport like this be so worthwhile?

Yet, through all times where practice was so tough, These games make your decision sure enough.

More Than a Game By: Jack Filograna The heavy rain pours down upon the field The smell of the fresh cut grass now sits and reeks The smell so natural makes people now yield But me, I stay because baseball gods speak The murky squish of mud goes right through cleats I try to be fair, clean as soap can be Unlike Houston Astros who did so cheat Ball is love, and love it without a fee But even as Phoebus rides the red sky I cherish the moments because I say That one day I will have to do goodbye And with that, my joy will be ripped away So I now say, remember those great points, And later your life will not disappoint

With my crooked hat and glove on my hand I catch the baseball my dad throws to me Where I dreamed of when my life will be grand3 People will go miles just to come and see Hitting home runs and rounding the bases Making the plays like I'm Derek Jeter The fans have big smiles on their faces Not backing down when Cole4 throws his heater Baseball took me from a kid with a dream To a man with a deep love for a game You are like basketball to big Hakeem5 You took my dreams and towered them up tall I respect you too much to keep playing My body just cannot keep going on The young kid in me wants to be staying But the time has come for me to be gone For me, baseball was like a golden ray But as we all know, nothing gold can stay.6 3

My love for running is more than a treat.

I start without knowing the aftermath.

The day I went to one single practice, Cross country became a pain in my life.

Not for the clear reason like a cactus, Yet, I did fall in love with all the strife

Which motivates me to be the very best.

My first race, Belmont, hurt from toes to face With a hill tall and steep like Everest.

I cross the line to finish, slowing pace.

My human body has many limits, So I must test them on my short visit.

Endless activity surrounding me

Boating, fishing, and lying in the sun In the vastness of nature and beauty

As I walk in the car and buckle up I start to get anxious and excited Chick-Fil-A is what I need in my cup Entering in, I feel so delighted

The fries are so salty and very sweet Eating the chicken, I start to smile Is this the place where love and I will meet So, I sit and stay for a long while

Chocolate milkshakes taste like pure heaven The god of food, Demeter, would agree The floor was as clean as a bright lemon My brother loves Chick-Fil-A just like me

The worth of Chick-Fil-A is more than gold This amazing love will never get old

Wanting this from the time I could first see, Always encountering our joyful cheers Wishing one day the spotlight will show me.

Until it came, yearning for my old years.

They came like gnats, bugging me ‘til I break Fights for favors like doctors for a cure.

Running, hiding from the fans just like Drake Keep my family safe, I am unsure.

Changing my number once or twice a year, Yet Questions, consults, await my voicemail.

Photos I never seen taken appear, Privacy is not a right on my trail.

We eat up and hurry down to the shore; Firing up the engine, getting on plain, The winds breeze in your face, asking for more, Gazing at the gorgeous mountain terrain.

But not all days are like this mint morning; Winds roaring with rain that rips at your skin, Theses misfortunes come without a warning; And if you're lucky, you’ll see a tail fin.
