On June 27th (the postponement day due to inclement weather and ground conditions on the original date) hundreds of qualifying pupils took part in the Canterbury Primary Schools’ Cross Country Championships, held at the Halswell Quarry. Congratulations go to all those from Selwyn who competed and achieved personal bests. Special congratulations go to Eden Innes of Rolleston School who came in at first place in the Year 5 girls race with a time of 8:22.2 and Hayley Maxwell of Waitaha School in the Athletes with a Disability, years 5 and 6 section, who came in at second place with a time of 8:32.8. Anita Boaz, Boaz the Rolleston School teacher who was involved with the athletes taking part from the School commented that they were all so proud of Eden taking 20 Hours ECE are FREE!

first place. All those in the first ten places of this event can now compete at Rabbit Island, Nelson during September as members of the Canterbury Cross Country Team. Before then though, there is extensive training to be undertaken before the runners compete in the Inter Regional event against teams from throughout the South Island. Eden’s parents Kyle and Shayna Innes were understandably very pleased with and proud of their daughter’s result. Shayna commented that Eden hadn’t done any training prior to the event, but as a keen Hockey player she does get plenty of running practise on the turf. Eden meanwhile commented that the win felt amazing and while she had been a bit tired when she started, she was super excited by the time she finished! Mum Shayna added that her daughter hadn’t yet decided
