amount of sugar in everyday commodities, it’s timely that a book on the topic, with a local co-author has recently been released. Author Amanda Tiffen of Yaldhurst wrote her first, very well received, book entitled ‘A Life Less Sugar’, before partnering with long-term friend and local Burnham resident Leigh Brown to produce A Life Less Sugar Recipes. Leigh has co-authored this second publication, as well as taking on the role of recipe developer. Author Amanda, works fulltime, is the mother of two young boys and admits she’s always struggled with her weight. Various diets and exercise regimes over the years may have succeeded, but the weight
never stayed off. “Seventeen months ago I discovered that my weight problem was a direct link to sugar, not junk food - but healthy sugars. Once I reduced my sugar, I reduced my weight,” Amanda said. Following on from the success of Amanda’s first book (“It sold over 4,000 copies in four months - to give an idea of how big this is, Nadia Lim sold 5,000 books in a whole year,” Leigh added!), the second book, (the recipes) was launched in midAugust. Both Leigh and Amanda have had personal successes following the less-sugar regime, with Amanda losing twenty kilograms to date and Leigh, who is a more recent proponent and has some health issues that
hinder weight loss, shedding seven kilograms. Mother of three and also working fulltime, Leigh said making people aware of the sugar content in common, everyday foods just made good sense. Both books are available via Facebook, from the website www.alifelesssugar.co.nz and also now through selected Paper Plus stores nationwide. “People are talking about the books and the concept on the Rolleston Facebook community page and the Selwyn Swimming Pool ladies call Amanda the Sugar lady,” Leigh laughed! Certainly two publications that are making a name for themselves and well-worth checking out.
