ISSUE 996 Friday 16th July 2021
Come and show your support for New Zealand Farmers, Growers & Tradies! Mounting regulations on water, the environment, biodiversity, climate change, workforce and now the ‘ute tax’ are all part of the frustrations farmers are currently facing. It has prompted farm action group Groundswell NZ to organise a ‘Howl of a Protest’ in towns across the country on Friday, July 16th. Derek Bull, John Ridgen Bull and Tom Ferguson have all volunteered to help co-ordinate the ‘Darfield Groundswell Howl of a Protest’, along with other local long-term farming family names; Wrights, Wrights Rowlands and Thorne, Thorne all of whom have been instrumental in ringing around their local area, rallying up support. Groundswell NZ is a volunteer group of farmers and rural professionals, advocating for our GrassRoots farmers and rural communities. “Equally, tradies, vets, loggers etc that need to replace diesel utes in the coming months, will be lumped with a tax that is being passed on as a subsidy for new battery car buyers, all without consulting any user groups,” commented Derek. “These incoming regulations will affect a wider spectrum of society than most realise, hence Groundswell begun. “Greens Party co-leader James Shaw described, on the radio,
that Groundswell is ‘a group calling them out on it. The of pākehā farmers down south Labour government is crippling spreading misinformation…...’ this industry and it must be which has possibly fuelled the fire! Good on you James,” Derek continued. Those working on the land aling with tradies are encouraged to take their tractors, utes and working dogs into town on Friday 16th, for a peaceful rally to draw public attention to the mounting regulations and costs they face. If you are a farmer, a grower or a ute owner and are fed up with the increasing Government interference in your life and business, as well as unworkable regulations and unjustified costs, then join in! Selwyn MP Nicola Grigg will be attending one of the Groundswell protests in her area and commented, “I’m looking forward to being involved in the Groundswell protest and standing up for the industry that I am so proud to be a part of. “New Zealand’s farmers and growers are world leaders in sustainable food production with high animal welfare standards and minimal environmental impacts. “That our own government cannot recognise this and, in fact, is instead intent on regulating the industry into oblivion is an absolute disgrace and I will never shy away from

stopped”, concluded Nicola. “The protest is not a one-hitwonder, but part of a campaign where we have to put a stake in the ground on unworkable regulations and costs. Further actions are being planned and we may need to call on your
support again in the future”, Derek emphasised. John F Kennedys quote has never rung truer than now;
“The farmer is the only person in our community who buys everything at retail, sells everything at wholesale, and still pays the freight both ways”. Continued on page 3……
