ISSUE 992 Friday 18th June 2021
Following the tragic helicopter accident on the eighth fairway at Terrace Downs Resort, on the afternoon of Saturday, June 12th, Ronnie Ronalde, Ronalde Director of Operations at CPG Hotels, wants to extend sincerest thanks to the golfers, many of whom are locals and to Terrace Downs staff, who came to the aid of those injured.
“I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the golfers and team members who were first at the scene, for the respect, care and sensitivity they showed to those injured in the accident. They were all true heroes, demonstrating courage and calmness during what was a very traumatic time,” commented Ronnie.
The pilot, photographer, and bride and groom were all injured, three seriously while the fourth suffered moderate injuries. The bride and groom are Muslims and their 500 weddings guests included a number of people who were caught up in the March 15th terror attack. Their original wedding had been postponed after the
Christchurch's deadly mosque attacks and the couple then had to delay again because of Covid19. The photographer, Rachel Jordan, Jordan has a fear of flying but manages to get into helicopters often to capture memories for her clients. Give-a-little pages have been set -up for those that wish to donate.
The Two Rivers Community Trust are excited about the fantastic programme they have lined up for the community to enjoy, celebrating Matariki in Malvern. Matariki (the Māori New Year) has been gaining momentum in New Zealand, as we look forward to it becoming a public holiday next year. It is a chance to regroup with friends and whānau, to reflect on the year that has passed while preparing for the year ahead. There are a few stories explaining how Matariki first came to be and
what each of the stars in the Matariki cluster represent, some of which will be part of the event next week. “Our young tamariki (children) in the community are contributing, with Darfield and Hororata Playcentres once again creating an exciting entranceway to set the scene. Thanks to Nat’s Nursery and Elizabeth Forrest, Forrest for providing so many plants for us to use. There will be artwork from local preschool organisations, along with some of the primary kura (schools) and
community contributions, which The evening will begin with a will be exhibited for everyone mihi whakatau, which is a special to enjoy,” commented Two welcome to everyone. Rivers Community Trust’s Event Coordinator, Kelly Maude. Maude Continued on page 3...
