Organisers of Anzac Day commemoration events throughout Canterbury would have had their weather apps close at hand on Saturday night, as the bad weather rolled through the region. Fortunately, the morning dawned clear with no disruptions experienced. This was the case at the Darfield Recreation Centre, where vintage car enthusiasts and their supporters gathered for the start of the annual Malvern Run, which takes vintage cars (many over 100 years old) on a 80km route, past the Cenotaphs of Darfield, Sheffield, Hororata, Glenroy and Glentunnel, before returning

back to Darfield. This year we were treated to our first ever steam car on the run, a very rare Stanley Steamer owned by Allan and Lesley Familton. This beautifully restored car travels along in almost complete silence, it does however require copious quantities of water, close to 350 litres was required for the round trip. Overall, the Run went without a hitch for most participants, with only the 1904 Alldays and Onions car having a problem, when it ran a bearing just before reaching Glentunnel, having to do the return journey on the trailer.
