50 years ago, the current Chief of the Coalgate Volunteer Fire Brigade, Philip Shaw, Shaw became a dedicated member to the team. On Saturday, March 13th, at the Glentunnel Community Hall, the Brigade celebrated the longevity of Phil’s dedication, by awarding him with a Double Gold Star Medal, for 50 years of service. There was a great turnout of neighbouring brigade members, including fire service dignitaries - Area Manager Dave Berry, Berry Region Manager Paul Henderson and Canterbury Provincial Fire Brigade Representative Bruce Moffatt. Moffatt Jenny Gallagher (Malvern Ward Councillor) presented Phil with a Merit Award to recognise his 50 year commitment to the fire service and the community. “Many close friends and family also attended and it was a great honour to share this 50 year achievement with him,” commented Daryl Smith, Smith SO of Coalgate Fire Brigade. that it takes the whole team to function, there were several other awards allocated on the night. This included recognising Phil’s wife, Jenny Shaw, Shaw who was awarded a 50 Gold Star Certificate of Merit & Support. Congratulations to Phil, Jenny and the other award recipients listed below, you all play an important role in keeping our community safe
