Local and ex-local families have been enjoying some outstanding results on the New Zealand Junior Freeride Tour. Harry, Harry Will and Joe Cookson, Cookson Poppy and Tom Freeman, Freeman Obie Simper, Simper Toby and Fletcher Thwaites and ex locals Sam and Ruby Hewitt (who now live on the West Coast) along with Mari and Hamish Henderson have been travelling around the country competing on the Tour. These skiers, ranging in age from eight to sixteen, are all part of the Mt Olympus Freeride Team. The New Zealand Junior Freeride Tour is a Freeride event run by Dion Newport who is the top international judge on the Freeride World Tour. It involves big mountain skiing where the competitors are required to ski a run, on offpiste reasonably steep terrain. They are usually only allowed a visual inspection before skiing. They are judged on control, line choice, technique and fluidity, as well as air and style. The New Zealand JFT has three stops on the tour, The Remarkables, Mt Olympus and Turoa (MT Ruapehu) on consecutive weekends in September; making for a
