Selwyn District Council and fuel supplier NPD have confirmed plans for a service station to be developed on land adjacent to the Darfield Library and Service Centre. Resource and building consents have been granted for the redevelopment of the Councilowned site on South Terrace/ SH73, formerly occupied by the offices of Sicon Ltd. The site will be developed as a self serve service station to be operated by NPD, and will include a fuel forecourt with six self-service double-sided pumps, and plans for a retail store in the future. Sicon recently vacated their Darfield office to move to new premises at Izone, Rolleston. The existing Sicon office building will be removed off the Darfield site. Selwyn District Council retains ownership of the land and will lease the site to NPD. The development will be undertaken and funded by NPD. The project will include landscaping and road improvement works in front of the library including extending the existing kerb and channel, and closing off the slip road accessway immediately in front of the library, which will improve safety for motorists. Road widening will also be undertaken on Ritso Street to improve the intersection with SH73. Council property and commercial manager Douglas Marshall said the Council acknowledges there
