Darfield High School joined with schools from throughout Canterbury to compete in the annual Showquest, held in the Christchurch Town Hall on Monday, May 20th. Showquest is a nationwide performing arts platform for schools, showcasing music, drama and dance. Students must create, produce and perform their original theatrical production, complete with student-designed and constructed costumes and props. Year 13 students, Jemma Dalley and Alex McGregor took lead roles in the organisation and the production of the DHS performance with the emotive theme of ‘lack of consent and sexual assault’. Focussing on what happens, what people go through, how often the victim is blamed and that it only takes one person to change lives for better or worse.

Darfield were placed second overall, plus won the Music Soundtrack Award and the Theme Award.
Alex was also rewarded for her outstanding performance with the Outstanding Rangatahi Award, presented for the best overall dancer on the night. Local dance studio TM Dance
World can also feel proud of the DHS result as a large proportion of the performance troupe either are, or have been, pupils of the School.
