Local dancer Teresa Barnhill recently attended the Showcase Dance Finals held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and returned with some outstanding results. • 2nd Senior Jazz routine • 1st Place National Champion for Lyrical in Senior Category • 1st Place National Champion for Ballet in Senior Category • 3rd Place for Contemporary with Platinum Gold award in Senior Category. This put Teresa in the top five overall in the Senior Diamond Category, and saw her receiving fourth place. Teresa, who dances for Levings School of Dance, in Christchurch, represented the School in eight teams at the Finals. Following this success in the Finals and after selection by the judges, Teresa danced in three further teams for Levings in the spectacular Battle of the Stars. This amazing show of skill and dance takes place in a fully equipped theatre with a paying audience present to watch. To be able to dance in this near professional production, teams have to achieve at least a first place and be national

champions in the Finals, undergo Judges selection and then dance their hearts out. Teresa returned home from the Battle of the Stars with: • 1st Place National Champions Senior Small Group Contemporary; winners of the Battle of the Stars; best choreography award; teacher’s trip to Portugal. • 1st Place National Champions Teen Large Group Contemporary; winners of Battle of the Stars. • 1st Place National Champions for Large Group Senior Contemporary; Runners Up Battle of the Stars. Peter Oxford created Australia’s first ever Australian National Dance competition event back in 1994. It was simply named ‘The Showcase Australian Dance Championships’ and throughout the years has seen thousands of dancers perform on the its stages with many of them going on to professional careers in the Entertainment Industry. Teresa’s results and those of the teams she was a part of are amazing and the News congratulates her on her success.
