Proclaimed by organisers as being extremely successful the UFBA (United Fire Brigades Association) South Island Waterway Challenge took place in Darfield, at the Recreation Reserve on Saturday, January 19th. The event, where competing Brigades challenge each other in feats of strength and ability while putting hoserunning and pump-operating skills to the test in a fun and competitive environment. The weather was warm and fine bringing out a large number of spectators who attended throughout the day. “The event was well supported by local businesses,” commented Alan Kittelty - Chief Fire Officer Darfield Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Chair UFBA Challenges Committee. “It was a pleasure for the Darfield Volunteer Fire Brigade to host this event and bring many visitors into our community," he added. Members of the Darfield Volunteer Fire Brigade were

kept busy throughout the competition with organisational tasks, timing and general assistance, as well as competing and answering an emergency call mid-morning! Results: 2 Person:1st - Mossburn 4 Person:1st - Kaitangita. The Darfield Volunteer Fire Brigade would like to thank the following for their support to help this event take place: •
