Darfield Artweek presents an exceptional standard of artwork on exhibit at Darfield’s Recreation Centre until Sunday, October 14th. The Hon. Amy Adams, Adams MP for Selwyn, officially opened Darfield Artweek for the appreciative crowd of approximately 150 artists and friends of the Malvern Community Arts Council on Friday, October 5th. The hard work and attention to detail by this year’s Artweek Committee and volunteers, chaired by Lorraine Natusch, Natusch was evident in the organisation of the 298 exhibits by 133 artists at the Rec Centre. At the opening night Judge Terri Elder praised the quality of submissions in her comments on the awardwinning entries. The coveted Premier Award went to Henry Turner for ‘Pennies from Heaven’, a “slightly surreal dreamscape, Mad Hatter’s tea party about to slide off the canvas”. Local potter, Alan Hooper, Hooper received

the Local Businesses Award for his ‘Blue Bottle’ pottery. Alison Staniland’s ‘Anita’ won the MCAC Friends’ Award for its mixed media, “minute drawings showing the same great attention to detail one might put into an intimate portrait”. Christchurch artist, Svetlana Orinko’s ‘Paeonies’, received the Darfield Dental Award for her “liberal application of paint to create texture and depth which sets this work apart”. Other award winners included Ki Hyun Kim, Kim Wendy Stevenson, Stevenson Lorraine Natusch, Natusch SoonSoon-Lee Spicer, Spicer Alice Olds, Olds and Gavin Chai. Chai Darfield Artweek has three exhibition spaces, the Darfield Rec Centre, the Selwyn Gallery (open daily 10am - 5pm until Sunday, October 14th), and the Darfield Library.
