Not many people can say they are a New Zealand number one in their chosen sporting field. However local, eleven year old, Tyler Wiremu can, having just won the title of New Zealand Junior Motocross Champion. Over the weekend of April, 21st and 22nd Tyler competed in the New Zealand Junior Motocross Championships near Mosgiel, taking on riders from around the country. In what can only be described as challenging conditions, caused by the weather, varying factors made the first day of racing tough for both riders and the organising Club. This only allowed Tyler to race once on Saturday before racing was cancelled. An enormous effort on Sunday by the organisers meant the event could continue and the respective champions be determined. Tyler qualified with the fastest lap in his class at a time of 2:34.034, four seconds faster than the next rider. He then went on to set the fastest lap time for any 85cc bike on the

Saturday of 2:31.268. This lap time was faster than the older 13-16 year old 85cc class. Unfortunately changes to the track alignment on Sunday meant that lap times were
