Three dressage teams compiled of members from the Darfield High School (DHS) Equestrian team attended the Canterbury Secondary School Dressage Championships, on March, 27th. The event, with twenty-eight teams competing, took place at Mclean’s Island National Equestrian Centre on the outskirts of Christchurch. Each team consisted of four riders, with two having to compete in two level two tests while the remaining pair had to compete in two level one tests. The individual results from these tests were then used to get an overall team score. The teams made the most of the calm overcast weather and quickly got into what they do best - riding. It was reported that DHS is known amongst the secondary schools’ equestrian teams as strong and one to beat. This certainly appeared to be

The Blue team brought in five firsts’ in their eight level tests, making it an easy win for the riders.
“It’s really heart warming seeing the friendships that form between students from the different schools,” one parent said. “Though there is the normal school rivalry, there is also plenty of cheering for friends competing in teams from other schools.”

Both Darfield White and Darfield Maroon gave it their all on what proved to be a challenging day for members of their teams. When speaking to parents of the DHS teams they said that the highlight for them was not necessarily the win (which of course was amazing) but it was the sportsmanship all the students displayed.
