Darfield Primary School (DPS) Year five and six students proudly took to the stage on Wednesday, August 16th as part of the annual Christchurch Primary Schools’ Cultural Festival. The Cultural Festival, which is in its 35th year, celebrates Aotearoa’s Maori culture through Kapa Haka, as well as the many multi-cultural communities attending Canterbury schools. This year there were eight performances staged over the five days, running from August,14th through to August, 18th. There were seventy-seven

groups, representing eight nationalities, showcasing their well-rehearsed performances and creative skills in a festival that involved over 5,500 primary and intermediate school students. “Cultural Festival gives the children a chance to shine. It not only showcases what they are learning, but also enables them to be proud of who they are,” said Sherrilee HerangiHerangiHarrison, Harrison a long standing Festival committee member. This is only the second time DPS has entered the event and the students have been practising since the beginning
