For anyone who hasn’t heard about it yet, 'McLaren' is the film of the year for racing enthusiasts and Kiwis alike.

Directed by Roger Donaldson (The World’s Fastest Indian) this is the definitive tale of New Zealander Bruce McLaren, McLaren who created a motor racing empire from his shed. The inspirational documentary account of one man’s pioneering spirit, unswerving tenacity and endless passion, McLaren is the untold story of a New Zealand world motor racing icon.

Local businessman Chris Charles, who was a part of the McLaren story in the heady days of the 60’s, attended an exclusive premiere of the movie at the Tannery Theatre a couple of week’s ago. The showing was only for members of the

McLaren trust (of which Chris is a member) and was also attended by Bruce’s sister Jan. Jan She called upon Chris to standup as he was one of the ‘boys’ that worked for Bruce. Those that worked for Bruce up to the

but proved to be virtually unbeatable in Can-Am along with fellow New Zealand driver Denny Hulme.

Hulme Sadly, he was killed testing one of his cars in 1970; his team carried on and continued to be a dominant force in motorsports and, more recently, high-performance sports cars. While Bruce only lived to be 32 years old, he became a motorsports legend in his incredibly short life. His name lives on in his namesake F1 team and the road-car company it spawned, and now people have the opportunity through this doco/movie to learn more about the man himself. The movie also features appearances by Chris Amon, Amon Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti, Andretti Jackie Stewart, Stewart and others.

“The release of the Bruce McLaren movie this month has rekindled the era of the formula one and Can Am days of the sixties, which I was privileged to be a part of,” commented Darfield’s Chris Charles.

“It was the era of the big three, Bruce McLaren, Denny Holme

and Chris Amon; three New Zealanders at the top of Formula One at that stage. They were exciting times with Bruce, racing, designing and building cars. Being a part of a team that included a lot of New Zealanders was the pinnacle of my life as a mechanic; we were living the dream. All those involved worked long hours getting cars ready for races which were held in England, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Canada and the USA. The teams

then had two mechanics per car at race meetings - unlike today where a team can have up to 300 people behind the scenes!

Life was exciting, tiring and fullon, but those involved wouldn't have had it any other way.

“Anyone with any interest in motor racing and who would like an insight into the man behind the McLaren name this doco-movie is a must-see. I thought it was pretty correct and well-worth going to,” Chris concluded.

This month’s production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ by Darfield High School will surely win over the hearts of young and old with its lively characters and musical enchantment.

Everyone has a love for Scarecrow, Lion and the Tin Man, and of course are always hoping that Dorothy will overcome the Wicked Witch, please the great Wizard of Oz, and return to her beloved Kansas.

The Darfield High School students playing these parts are loving every minute that being part of a production entails. Madison O’Callaghan as Dorothy, Jodie Rollings as the Scarecrow and Katie Sharp as the Cowardly Lion are all doing drama for NCEA again this year, while Caleb Banks as the Tin Man has done drama in the past but has had to forego it to concentrate on other subjects this year. All the leads are frantically juggling study, sport, school leadership commitments and some have after school jobs. This doesn’t detract from the enjoyment they get from performing, learning new skills, building confidence and getting to know new friends, all while having

lots of fun along the way. Caleb did his first production in Year 10 and wonders now why he didn’t get involved sooner.

Darfield High provides a wonderful opportunity for all age levels to be involved and there is something for everyone. Music students are playing in the band which is led by the talented Rachel Balchin as Musical Director. Lighting and stage crew are learning their technical craft which provides lots of opportunity for action in Oz and the set design and production has allowed plenty of scope for the artists and builders within the school.

This musical is ably directed by Andrea Hanson who studied Theatre and Film at the University of Canterbury, before embarking on her teaching career. The students are extremely grateful for all the expertise, energy and many extra hours both Andrea and Rachel are contributing towards making this show one to be remembered. They are determined to follow the yellow brick road and make them proud by putting on a performance that can be enjoyed by all.

Of all the power-saving states in Windows, hiberna on uses the least amount of power. When you open the lid, hit the spacebar, or move the mouse, the screen lights up and you are back doing what you were doing. Hiberna on is the shu ng down process, storing your open stuff and then shu ng off. When you hit the power buJon it opens up, not at your desktop but where you were when you sent it into hiberna on.

The problems. Some mes when you go into sleep or hibernate modes, dependent on the difficulty of what you were doing, when you go to wake your machine up - it doesn’t. You hit the power buJon as a last resort and nothing happens.

This is the me to hold the power buJon in for about twenty seconds, not five or ten, but longer. Then let go and try the push buJon test once again, and behold it boots-up!

In 2012 five girls (all Malvern Students) set out on a mission to improve the safety of quad bikes on New Zealand farms.

From their efforts ‘Flatpak’ for load storage on ATVs was born.

Five years on, the involvement of three teams, products in 82 stores, one MPI campaign and thousands of conversations later they wanted to ask themselves “What has changed?”

As many are aware this country has had a huge focus on the safety of quad bikes for the last five years. They are by far the biggest killer on New Zealand farms.

“Many of you reading this will know someone who has been in an accident, if not experienced one yourself,” said Emily Tasker of Flatpak Limited. “Our country has brought in the requirements to wear helmets, we know not to transport passengers, we’re learning better ways to operate them and we’ve been told to monitor our loads. But are these changes enough?” Emily queried.

Apparently not. From 2013 to 2015 the number of fatalities on quad bikes have continued to climb. It wasn’t until just last year that figure dropped. Yet this year New Zealand is already on track to hitting another record high.

“So what more can we do?”

Emily said.

Quad bikes were created for the US market for hunters who would be travelling on flat land 5-20 days per year during their hunting trips. When they’d load a quad bike there would be a mixture of gear on both the front and rear, with the golden rule being two times more on

When they were brought over to New Zealand they became the ideal vehicle for farm life. “We’d travel on them every day, up and down hills, with our dog jumping on and off the back as we went. This resulted in our bikes wearing faster with their centre of gravity being continually challenged on a daily basis,” Emily explained.

Recent tests completed by Crashlabs has proven that quad bikes will tip when on an angle of 20 degrees with the loads stored correctly. All other vehicles sit at almost double this. As a result this has also led to Crashlabs suggesting to their government in Australia to ban quad bikes, unless a major change can be made.

“What does that mean for us?,” Emily continued. “If we continue on the track we are, then we will have no choice but to ban quad bikes all together in New Zealand. This would be a huge financial cost to our farms, forcing us to invest in vehicles such as side by sides and providing no outlet to sell our quad bikes.

“Therefore we must start working together as a community. It is time to invest and value our own lives. There

are simple ways to do this as well, without picking up the paperwork: • Flick a message to staff/ family whenever you venture out on the quad bike. Let them know where you will be and when you will return. There are plenty of apps out there that will allow your family to track your movements too, without having to rely on cell phone coverage.

• Secure your loads.

Remember the golden rule of two times as much on the rear when on flat ground and be aware of where your weight is going up and down hills.

• Be aware of the environment you’re travelling in. Going slowly isn’t going to make a difference (almost all quad bike accidents happen when bikes are travelling under 20km/h). You need to start making better decisions about what terrain you take your bike into, how it is loaded and when the last maintenance check was done.

“Look after yourself Malvern residents. You are precious and you need to treat yourself that way.”

Clark Land Surveyors Ltd In February 2017, after public consultation, community groups united to discuss ideas for Hororata’s public spaces and facilities. This group included representatives from all key Domain and Hall users including, the Hororata Reserve Committee, Citizens Committee, Tennis Club, Scouts, Rifle Club, Playcentre and Hororata Community Trust.

Called ‘Go Hororata’, the group’s mission is to work collaboratively to develop a concept plan for the public facilities needed in Hororata now, and in the future.

“The Go Hororata group has had several meetings where lots of excellent ideas and concepts h av e b e e n di sc u s s ed, ” commented Go Hororata spokesperson, Cindy Driscoll.

Driscoll “In particular these ideas and concepts are surrounding the Reserve and Hall, the facilities we have, the groups who use these, the opportunities new facilities could bring and what

the community needs, looking to the future.

“Possibly the most significant discussion point being the concept of building a new Community Centre on the Hororata Reserve.”

The Go Hororata group have now reached a stage where it is necessary to further research the viability and community support for these ideas. To do this an independent party has been appointed to conduct a feasibility study. This study is necessary to ensure all parties are included in the discussion and that the needs and opportunities for facilities are analysed with a big picture approach. The study will look at the refurbishment of the Hororata Hall, or replacement options with a new Community Centre, and where this building is best located in relation to the Reserve and other facilities in the community.

The study will also consider how facilities will be funded and if

there will be any impact on rate payers. The end result will form the basis of a plan to be discussed in consultation with all user groups and the wider community.

“Go Hororata have appointed Christchurch firm, Octa Associates to conduct this study. We should, at this time, thank the Hororata Community Trust who will fund the cost of Octa Associates fee to carry out the study,” Cindy concluded.

Octa Associates have worked on community projects since 1973, and are excited about being involved with such a motivated community, and because of this they have offered a considerable discount for this project.

The study is expected to be completed by August 2017.

Hororata residents are invited to meet with Octa Associates 5.30pm, Monday 12th of June at the Hororata Hall to share their ideas and have input into this study.

Earlier this year it was approved for use in the Selwyn Te Waihora catchment only.

Environment Canterbury Chief Executive Bill Bayfield said NCheck is a simple way for farmers and lifestyle block owners to find out their property’s nitrogen losses and whether they need a land use consent to farm.

Cropping farms and those with low nitrogen losses can then use the NCheck report in the consent process. OVERSEER® is still the best tool for farms with high nitrogen losses.

NCheck can be used until 2020, when a number of farms in the region will be required to reduce their nitrogen losses.

Matariki - Māori New Year - is the Māori name for the group of stars also known as the Pleiades or the Seven Sisters.

The Māori New Year is traditionally marked by the rise of Matariki in late May or June.

This year it rises on June 25th.

Matariki takes place throughout June and there will be book displays and activities for children of all ages available at all libraries. Four videos displaying Matariki story readings will be playing on the TV screens in libraries each week during June.

acoustic rock musical, featuring 100 fabulous ‘Flatso’ puppets inspired from ancient cave drawings made on limestone cliffs and caves around the Timaru district. KidsFest is set to return these July school holidays with bookings now open. Over eighty events will be held in Selwyn as part of KidsFest between July 8th to 22nd.

Selwyn District households are consuming 43% more broadband data than last year, an increase driven by surging demand for streaming services such as Netflix, according to new statistics from Chorus.

The average Selwyn District home used 126GB of broadband data on Chorus’* copper and fibre networks in April 2017 compared to 88GB in April 2016.

“Typically, homes now have several connected devices at any one time, so we’re all using far more data and many of us are demanding faster and more reliable broadband speeds,” said Chorus network strategy manager Kurt Rodgers.

Rodgers On an average day in Selwyn District, data usage on the Chorus network is at its lowest at 5am and begins to rise between 6am and 8:30am.

Usage remains consistent during the day and jumps sharply from 3:30pm.

“It is unlikely to be a coincidence that it’s the same time certain data-hungry members of the family wander in from school.

“Household usage slows down again over dinner time, and from 7:30pm it climbs to the highest usage period of the day - between 8pm and 10:30pm - as people get through one or two Netflix shows, upload the homework or Skype friends and family.”

Nationally, the average New Zealand home used about 150GB of broadband data in April 2017 – compared to about 101GB in April 2016.

“More Kiwis can, and are, taking advantage of our f a s te r , m o r e r e l i a b l e broadband connections.

“With faster broadband you don’t have long delays while streaming or downloading high definition TV and video or face frustrating buffering even when there are multiple connected devices in your home.

“Our use of new technology is

also driving the increase in speed. It doesn’t matter whether you live in the cities or live rurally, content is flying into our homes faster due to newer technology such as high definition online television and more interactive and complex online games.

“It’s likely the impact of online TV will continue to be felt in peak network traffic growth. As more content becomes available online, new devices are released to watch it on and higher video resolutions such as 4K (and eventually 8K) see increasing pressure on the bandwidth required at peak times.”

The Malvern Game Hunters are set to get their twenty fourth annual Hunting Comp underway on the weekend of July 28th30th, 2017.

Billed as the largest hunting competition in the South Island, organisers are once again expecting a large number of entries.

The competition will begin on Friday, July 28th and will run through to 2pm on Sunday, July 30th.

Weigh-in will be held at the Coalgate Tavern on Sunday, between 11am

and 2pm, followed by the prizegiving.

As in previous years, a large number of quality Spot Prizes are on offer, including a Centre Fire Rifle sponsored by Rural Plumbing Services Ltd & Chesters Plumbing & Bathroom. These are over and above the monetary prizes available for the heaviest Boar, Chamois, Stag, Tahr and Wallaby and the best Douglas scores for Chamois, Stag, Tahr and Tusks.

June marks the official start of winter and this brings an increased risk of rain, fog, ice and snow. In these conditions it is important to slow down and adjust to the conditions.

Winter also reduces visibility with sunrise occurring later in the mornings and sunset occurring earlier in the evening.

Many people are on the road driving to or from work in darkness or dim light. Using a vehicle’s lights is a simple way of increasing visibility and improving safety.

“The way we all drive affects everyone’s safety on the road,” said Selwyn Road Safety Coordinator Ngaire Tinning.

Tinning “Wet and slippery roads and inappropriate speed for the conditions can be unforgiving of small mistakes, particularly on bends. It’s important to slow down in challenging weather and allow larger following distances on wet roads as it takes longer to stop in these conditions.

“Some Selwyn residents are reporting drivers not using their lights in rain and fog, while others say they have seen cars passing them at speed when they don’t have a clear view of the road ahead,” Ngaire added.

Statistics from Selwyn crashes between 2012 and 2016 show that in the winter months (June, July and August) there were twice as many accidents in the 6-9am time period as in the summer months (December, January and February). A total of 76 crashes occurred in this morning peak period in winter between 2012 and 2016, with a total of 38 crashes occurring in this time in the summer.

Throughout the winter, the Council’s roading contractors will be monitoring local roads for ice and laying grit when needed. Even when roads are covered with grit, motorists still need to drive carefully and reduce their speed.

The Century Farm and Station Awards began in 2005, after an impassioned group from Lawrence in Otago decided to ensure New Zealand's farming history was not lost. It set up the inaugural New Zealand Century Farms Awards, and over four hundred families have now joined this exclusive circle of centenarians and sesquicentenarians.

To qualify for an Award, a farm or station must have been operated continuously by the same family for one hundred years or more. The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, siblings, or nephews and nieces, including through marriage or adoption. While there is a small amount of work involved (researching family histories, land titles etc) the process is thoroughly rewarding, and an opportunity to reconnect with previous generations. Beyond the awards ceremony, the participants historical records are then able to be sent to Archive at the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, ensuring all records are kept in perpetuity.

At the heart of New Zealand’s heritage are the stories of the early pioneers who cultivated and transformed the country’s untamed wild land into the rich agricultural industry that exists today. Many of their descendants continue to produce crops and livestock on the land with the same passion,

The New Zealand Century Farm and Station Awards programme aims to capture and preserve this important rural history, which might otherwise be lost through the generations.

Organisers extend an invitation to all New Zealand farming families who have owned and worked their land for one hundred years or more, to apply for a Century Farm, Century Station or Sesquicentennial (150 year) award.

Along with the three local families (Jarman, Shipley and Duncan families) who received their awards on Saturday, May 27th, there have been the following previous recipients from this area: Clive Dennis: Dennis Awarded a Century Award in the 2005-2011 segment - family began farming in 1879.

by Ken’s grandson and his son, James.

James All those attending the event in Lawrence were amazed at how a small community could put on such an event and commented that, “the Lawrence community is wonderful and the weekend was just lovely.”

2016 Century award (100 years) - presented in 2017 in Lawrence, on May 27th. Jane and Bernard Duncan Glenmore, Darfield - submitted the following: “Glenmore farm near Darfield was once part of the Bangor and Racecourse Hill Estates. John Duncan, Duncan who arrived from Northern Ireland in about 1865, acquired his first block of land in 1897 and built his house at the corners of Cullen’s, Waireka and Homebush Roads. There he and his wife, Alice (Delargy Delargy), Delargy raised three sons and a daughter. Their youngest son, James, James purchased a further block in 1910 at the breakup of the great estates. He built his house on Bangor Road and with his wife, Mary (Hartnell Hartnell), Hartnell raised three daughters and a son, also named James, but known as Jim. Jim The farm now comprised 450 acres and produces a variety of crops such as wheat, barley, peas, potatoes, clover and rye-grass, along with sheep. The Great Depression impacted on the family and Jim’s father had him leave school in 1933 aged only fourteen to become an unpaid tractor driver. It was not until 1949, once all his sisters had married, that Jim was also able to marry and farm here on his own account. His wife, Margaret (McGregor McGregor), McGregor named her new home ‘Glenmore’ after the Station at Tekapo where her grandfather, Francis Lake McGregor, McGregor had held the lease in the 1860’s.

“Jim and Margaret raised two sons and two daughters. In 1963, following the prosperous 1950’s, they built a new homestead on the site of the original Bangor Road house. Sadly, Jim died in 1978 aged only sixty, after which Margaret, their older son, Bernard and eventually his wife, Jane (Etherington Etherington), Etherington farmed together through the challenging 1980’s with droughts, 24% interest rates and ‘Rogernomics’ to contend with.

“In 1990 the ownership passed to Bernard and Jane who are still in residence, along with the oldest of their three children and her family. Today, although reduced in size and farmed by a tenant, Glenmore remains a much-loved family farm and a place to come home to for all members of the extended Duncan family.

“The next chapter of its life will see the arrival of irrigation in 2018 via Central Plains Water. It is hoped that this will future-proof Glenmore farm from the all-too-common droughts which are part of farming in Canterbury.”

Ann and Paul Jarman have farmed Essendon since 1975.

2016 Century award (150 years) - presented in 2017 in Lawrence, on May, 27th. Ann and Paul Jarman - Essendon, Darfield submitted the following: “At Essendon, five generations have nurtured the land using new technology at each step.

“James Gough arrived in Auckland in 1860. He spent the summer of 1861 prospecting in Gabriel’s Gully. By the winter of 1862 he owned land in Christchurch and was a successful roading contractor.

“In 1863, the Canterbury Waste Lands Board recorded his first successful application, paying £200 for a Licence to Occupy 100 acres in the Selwyn Forks (Greendale) area. He built and

lived on that land from 1865.

“Over the next ten years, James continued buying land in the area. Limited water for stock meant that the most successful crops were wheat, oats and barley.

“In 1884 James’ daughter, Annie married Thomas Jarman.

Jarman James shifted to another of his farms and left Tom and Annie to farm at Greendale.

“In the last two decades of the century, reticulated stock water races and refrigeration allowed intensive lamb production.

“WWI was hard on the Jarman family. One son, Frank died at Gallipoli, another son, Ness died in France in 1918 and a third son, Bert died in 1922,

“When James died in 1920, the family reviewed their land holdings and Bert and his wife Lottie took over the Essendon block of 340 hectares, incorporating some of his grandfather’s original land holdings. In two years he planted many trees, a legacy of his time in the desert in Palestine.

“Lottie with her two surviving children, Keith and Shirley, farmed Essendon as an estate until Keith returned from service in Italy in 1945. He and Myra continued his father’s tree planting. In those days Essendon ran 1,000 ewes and grew one hundred acres of wheat.

“In 1975, Paul and Ann Jarman took over the farm. Under Paul’s management, two deep wells allowed strategic irrigation.

Essendon continued with a super -fine Merino flock and grew 200 hectares of specialist small seeds until 2013 when part of the farm was converted to dairying. This will be extended when the Central Plains Water Scheme connects in 2018, enabling Essendon to be fully irrigated.”

Burton's first task on taking up the land was, with the help of William his son from his first marriage, to build a two-roomed plus lean-to cob cottage. He then had to provide boundary and paddock fences made from gorse planted on top of two foot six inch high walls of packed sods cut from the tussocky soil.

He also surrounded the seven acre homestead block with shelter trees of pinus radiata (hence the name of the property - Pine Farm) and a few blue gums, bought two horses, a single furrow plough, worked up his paddocks and planted wheat. It was not until the water races designed by Colonel Brett reached the property that he introduced sheep; merinos imported from Australia.

Another milepost in the development of the farm was the purchase, in 1887, of a traction engine, threshing mill and chaff cutter for use on his own and neighbouring farms.

From 1883 onwards he began buying pockets of nearby land.

Pinehurst, adjacent to Burton's original 200 acres was bought

by William from the Crown and

after William's death in 1934 was bought by Burton's youngest son, Herbert Burton, Burton who had run Pine Farm since the death of Burton in 1911.

This created a total property of 2500 acres, devoted primarily to sheep and to some cropping.

The 2500 acres was divided between George Burton Shipley and Kenneth (Ken) Robert Burton Shipley, Shipley sons of Herbert in 1958 and the original 200 acres was still farmed until his recent death, by Ken. The whole property has remained a mixed sheep and cropping farm.

Corriedale sheep were purchased when they were first released and are still the main breed on the property. In 1990 Ken purchased some Texel sheep and developed the Brandesburton Texel Stud, which has been run on the original 200-acre block.

From the farm originally growing only wheat and oats, it now grows all cereal crops, ryegrasses and clovers, peas, vegetable and brassica seed crops. Irrigation which was installed on the property in 1972 made this possible.

Sweet Louise is New Zealand’s only charity solely dedicated to supporting women (and some men), living with incurable breast cancer. Recently the charity was delighted to receive a cheque for $20,000 from New Zealand agricultural crop packaging company, Agpac as part of their Pink Bales initiative. The concept of the pink bales was designed by Agpac to support Sweet Louise and is made up of a contribution from Agpac, and the premium that farmers choose to pay to purchase the pink, rather than traditional green or white bale wrap. Many kiwis see these pink bales from the roadside on farms from Cape Reinga in the Far North through to Bluff in Southland.

The Pink Bales campaign is in its third year and with the addition of the $20,000, has raised over $68,000 for the Sweet Louise charity.

CEO, Sweet Louise, Fiona Hatton is delighted with the support from the rural sector; “our charity relies totally on donations and another $20,000 makes the world of difference to our members, and their families, who are living with incurable

breast cancer. We know that many farmers have had tough times themselves recently and we are keen for them to know how grateful we are for their support of this Campaign.”

Sweet Louise touches the lives of over 90% of these people and relies solely on donations. There are currently over 570 Sweet Louise members.

“The money raised by Agpac and their farming clients, goes a long way toward funding the expenses of an additional qualified Support Coordinator,” explained Fiona. “Part of the Support Coordinator’s role is to liaise with our members nationwide, getting to know them and their families so that we can offer bespoke services based on our members’ individual needs. Examples of support offered to members includes assistance with childcare, housecleaning, gardening, massages, mastectomy underwear, wigs

and much more.”

Agpac, General Manager, Chris Dawson added, “asking farmers to pay more for something like silage bales when they are constantly under pressure to control costs was quite an ask in a tough economic environment.

The generosity of our farming community has been amazing and enables Sweet Louise to continue their incredible work supporting members and their families, and we are thrilled to be part of that.”

As with many innovative Kiwi ideas, the coloured bales concept has since been adopted internationally with colourful, charity silage bales now dotted across fields throughout Europe.

Lakeland Art’s new Leeston Gallery is now open for public viewing.

After the formation of a nineperson committee some months ago, Lakeland Art successfully applied for a start-up grant from the Selwyn District Council and then secured the lease of the vacant premises at 80 High Street, Leeston, formerly occupied by Leeston Drapery.

Lakeland Art is a sub-branch of the Ellesmere Art Group Trust which has existed for many years and which for some time has been guided by well-known arts identity Jill Lemon.

Lemon Averil Southward joined the Art Group six years ago and has been instrumental in encouraging new members and setting up a yearly school holiday programme. Averil recognised the need for an arts’ centre in the growing Ellesmere community and floated the idea to a number of local artists.

The support she received was immediate and extensive. Since then more than seventy artists have been identified as living in the catchment area. No home for artists until now has existed in the 75 kilometre eastern corridor between Lincoln and Ashburton.

Leeston was the obvious venue and the former drapery store was not only available, but was also the perfect size and layout.

Its location in the centre of High Street adjacent to the supermarket is visually appealing and has the space to accommodate aspects of both art display and tuition.

Lakeland Art will not only exhibit

and sell art by its members, but will also have a monthly rotating exhibition by guest artists. As well Lakeland Art will conduct art tuition for both young and senior students and still have space for a working artist.

Local business support for the concept has been unanimous.

Teachers of art at local schools have also been enthusiastic there are seventy art students at Ellesmere College alone with no art or cultural centre to attend post-school, other than the Leeston Library.

The Lakeland Art committee wish to embrace all forms of art in the Ellesmere area and will

invite artistic groups and schools to participate and display their art at the venue.

The committee also see Lakeland Art as a support group rather than being competitive with existing galleries in Darfield and Lincoln.
