Local rider Sophie Townsend has just completed a trip of a lifetime to Mexico - having attained some outstanding results on the world equestrian stage. Riding on borrowed mounts the results gained were dependent on the skill and ability of the riders to get the best out of their unknown horses. Sophie had commented before her departure that she hoped to do well in the (FEI Children’s International Classics) class and her results against riders from throughout the world - were amazing. Sophie’s mother Maria reported: “Day one consisted of the drawing of the horses for the 32 riders, who hailed from all over the world. Sophie drew a horse named Conchita, owned by a local Mexican rider, who was also competing. Later that afternoon riders took part in a training session, before the warm-up round, held the following day.

Sophie and Conchita produced two immaculate clear rounds the following day which was the final day of qualifying, and finished fifth. Cont on page 5...
