On Saturday friends, family and fellow Brigade members gathered in the Hororata Fire Station to celebrate fifty years of service to the Fire Brigade by Graham Stewart. Stewart President of the United Fire Brigades Association Alan Kittelty presented the following speech at the award ceremony. He began by welcoming the guests of honour Graham and Jan Stewart and their family, as well as various Fire Service officials, local MP Amy Adams and Selwyn Mayor, Sam Broughton. Broughton From Alan: “To the Hororata Brigade, it is indeed an honour for me to be able to represent the UFBA on this very special occasion. It is even more special to be able to present this award to someone I have known for a long time and in a brigade very close to my own. My first memory of Graham was at waterway competitions for the Mid-Canty sub association where he would keep the running times on blackboards for all to see.
