The sixth annual Hororata Highland Games took place last Saturday and attracted a record crowd of well over 10,000 people, as well as a record number of competitors. Drawcard competitor Jacko Gill created a new field record in the inaugural twenty two pound Hammer Throwing (28 metres). Luke Reynolds equalled the 56lb WOB (weight over bar) Sheaf Toss record with fourteen feet and set a new record in the

sixteen pound Sheaf with a toss of thirty feet. For the first time a female won the Hororata Pie eating competition and a New Zealand record was believed to be broken for the most number of post-it notes on a car. The Gough CAT Oceania Heavyweight Championship was won by Australian athlete Luke Reynolds, with Jacko Gill coming second in his first Highland Games competition.
