From the Waimakariri River in Canterbury, on to the Waiau, Rakaia, Waitaki, Matukituki, Clutha and Dart, to the Kawarau/ Shotover River in Queenstown the week long NZ Jet Boat Marathon took place on October 15th until the 22nd. A gruelling race of time trials and accuracy with clean river runs saw locals Wayne Boyes along with navigator Mark Moore and support crew David Mitchell, Dean Frew, Charlie Buttle and Alastair Taylor finish third place in the CX Class, also winning ‘Best Turn Out of Boat and Crew.’ “It was a huge experience to finish the NZ Marathon, and the first I’ve competed in,” Wayne (Brick) commented. “The World Marathon in 2017 will be on the same rivers, and definitely something to work towards,” he added. I was really fortunate to have so me o utstand ing sponsors and would like to thank them for their much

appreciated support. Without them we wouldn't have been able to make this happen. Equally worthy of thanks is my crew who worked very hard to keep the boat going, and I am extremely grateful for their assistance and expertise. We had a strong motor which was prepared and installed by Steve and Geoff from Hartz Marine and this proved to be extremely reliable, with just the one DNF (did not finish) on the Waitaki River.
