When Darfield High School’s (DHS) Big Band finished their performances at Jazz Quest, held at the start of August they emerged with a Bronze award recognising their talent. The ARA Institute of Canterbury Jazz School contest attracts bands from all over the South Island and is billed as Christchurch's Premier, annual, High School Jazz Band Competition. It showcases the quality of some of the countries top school jazz bands and musicians. Bands are awarded gold, silver and bronze awards, and individual musicians are presented awards for outstanding contributions on their instruments, as well as for original compositions and arrangements.
