Last Saturday saw crowds thronging to the Kirwee Showgrounds to enjoy, compete, chat and greet, at the 140th annual Courtenay A & P Show. The forecast for inclement weather may have kept a few potential attendees away as numbers through the gate were very slightly down from last year. However the predictions were incorrect and the rain didn’t eventuate, leaving Showgoers to enjoy a fine sunny day - albeit with a chilly breeze. Show President Adrienne Begg laughingly stated early in the day that it wasn't going to rain on her parade, and obviously someone upstairs was listening! “Events on Show Day all ran smoothly,� reported Courtenay A & P Association secretary S h a r on K e l l o ck , “ an d competition was fierce.� Needless to say, Sharon was taking a well-deserved break from duties this week, before planning and implementation tasks for next year’s event, get underway. The Lab in a Box site and ‘The Bugman’ were definite hits
President Adrienne Begg with Catherine Wright, recipient of this years Royal Agricultural Society Medal which is awarded every three years. Catherine gained the most points in the Shed Section. amongst all, especially the younger members of the community, with Ruud’s display of bug handling prowess, impressive. Showgoers took full advantage of the outstanding selection of stalls and trade exhibits and many were heard to say how much they enjoyed the opportunity of catching up with friends and neighbours in en joyable, con vivial surroundings.
