The unseasonal wintery blast of rain and wind did little to put off Homebush Estate’s visitors to the annual Open Day, held last Sunday, November 15th 2015. The fine breaks from the rain were appreciated by all, as locals and visitors milled around Homebush’s historical stables, delighted by the massive collection of antiques and treasures of yesteryear. Many comments were made as people sighted items they hadn’t seen since their childhood! Echoing around Homebush’s heritage buildings and trees, prized steam powered farm machinery proudly chugged

away, intriguing the engineers and children among the crowds. For those who wanted to hear a good story, Colin Watson, Watson historian, told the grand tale of the Deans family, now in their 164th year of ownership at Homebush! Many had no idea of the family’s ties with Riccarton House or the neighbouring township of Glentunnel - the latter being through the discovery of coal and clay in the 1870’s. The Swingletree Café was warm, cosy and busy, as coffee, tea, cakes and other yummy goodies were on offer. The Vinegar Jam Trio added much to the relaxed

atmosphere with their live music; a fine background companion for those enjoying their lunch and snacks. The new homestead, completed mid-last year, was very much the centre of attention. As many will remember, Homebush’s 106 year old Homestead was lost to the September 2010 earthquake. “The new design prompted mixed responses, but no one can deny the great reflection taken and the symbolism that runs right down, strong, into the very foundation,” said Annette Bulovic, Bulovic Deans historian. So another Open Day is over and done, with many returning home in possession of a greater appreciation of Canterbury’s earliest history and of one of the first families who broke ground here. Tuesday’s Addington Cup Day was memorable for many, for a variety of reasons, but none more so than Darfield’s Michelle Dampier who made her debut in front of the crowd virtually naked. There was little or no skin on display though as Michelle was undertaking the role of mobile canvas for artist Stacey Goodall of Tr an sf orm at ions M ak eu p Artistry. The quirky, Kiwi-ana art work took almost nine hours to complete. So while Canterbury was waking up, sorting out their Cup Day hat or shoes, before indulging in a Champagne breakfast, Stacey was hard at work - having been that way since 3am! “This is the second body art I have had done,” Michelle commented. “A few weeks ago I was part of the Melody M and Heavenly Bodies collection for the Canterbury Collections fashion show, where I was transformed into the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. “I was incredibly nervous about my Show Day appearance just because of the huge number of people in the audience. However as it got closer to the appearance time I was more excited than nervous and became quite comfortable with what I was doing. I felt extremely proud to be a part of Stacey's

It was a huge confidence boost to be found suitable, as well as a truly awesome experience,” Michelle enthused. “I would jump at the

Miho Wada and her pocket-sized jazz orchestra are bringing happy, groovy music and an unique sound to Darfield. Malvern residents can experience Miho’s stylish, contemporary jazz at Trinity Church (McLaughlin’s and Bangor Roads) on Saturday, November 28th, 7.30pm. Miho’s Jazz Orchestra (MJO), formed in October 2011, is one of the most entertaining jazz acts in New Zealand. Along with Miho, their infectiously energetic fluteand-saxophone-playing leader, MJO includes an eccentric electric violin, romantic acoustic guitar, sunny Latin bass, and sophisticated jazz drums. The group performs to sold out shows at jazz festivals and concert series around the country, and has toured extensively in Japan and Australia. Miho is a Japanese-born New Zealander who studied flute and completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Canterbury, before undertaking further study at the Trinity College of Music, London. She has extensive experience as a performer of jazz, Latin, salsa, rock, pop, ska and other world music. One of Miho’s strongest influences comes from a strong passion for Cuban El Son music, which she studied intensively in Havana during 2008. In 2009 she played flute and piano for a recording of ‘The Passenger’ with Iggy Pop for a series of TV adverts that won the Grand Prix Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. MJO’s albums, including their latest, ‘Bumpy Road’ (2015), are available on iTunes. Their top tracks can be heard on YouTube and their website www.mihowada.com . The Bassett family of Sheffield had another successful year at the Canterbury A & P Show, exhibiting twelve Boer goats. Their continued strength in the hogget class has seen them come away with first place in five of the last six years. The Bassett’s have also generally been awarded a second or third placing for other does, in the same class, most years too. This year their thirteen month old hogget (subsequently named Miley as she kept sticking her tongue out in photos!) won her class, went on to win the Senior Boer Doe championship and then the NZ Boer Goat Breeders Association’s South Island Championship trophy for the Grand Champion Boer Doe. Another highlight during the show was a visit by Kieran Read and family to the Jaegar Boer goats. Also in the highlight category was a goat meat demonstration on Thursday and Friday in the Food & Wine

Marquee by Mark McCracken, McCracken executive chef of the Baretta and Cuban restaurants. Mark uses Shingle Creek Chevon, but the actual goat meat used in the demonstration was supplied by

the Bassett family. A great chance for the public to taste goat meat, cooked two different ways, and it was so popular that Mark ran out of tasting plates!

medal for excellence, awarded for services to the Courtenay A & P Association. “The role of Secretary has a large workload, formulating schedules and catalogues, sponsor liaison, ribbons, permits and judges,” Adrienne commented. “Entries are now taken online, which makes life much easier.” she added. These duties have now been handed over to the current secretary, Sharon Kellock, Kellock who, thanks to Peter Schnell, Schnell has an on-site Secretary’s office. The President’s duties are to ensure that the Show day event runs smoothly. They are on hand to meet and greet the judges in all sections and help them where necessary. There’s no opportunity for a Show President to shirk publicity as they are expected to lead the Grand Parade, make speeches, liaise with convenors and a whole range of numerous other tasks, both scheduled and occurring spontaneously on

the day. Adrienne is appreciative of the hard-working and efficient section convenors that ensure things run smoothly and she thanks all the committee for their ongoing support and assistance. This year the medal will be awarded to the person with the most points gained, in at least three classes, in the shed section. “More exciting news,” Adrienne enthused, “is a new horse section, the Pinot and Gypsy

Cob. As well as this section we have added more horse classes givin g poin t s t ow ar ds qualification for the annual Horse of the Year final, held in Hastings.” Adrienne was also enthusiastic about the calibre of entries in this year’s Matson & Allan Young Achiever’s Award. The winner will be presented with their trophy, prize and certificate after the Grand Parade in the main ring. Title contenders were interviewed on Wednesday this week by a selection panel consisting of, Show President, along with Junior and Senior Vice Presidents, Chris Flanagan of Matson and Allan, plus the Convenor of the award, Gavin Wilson. Wilson After years of assisting behind the scenes it will be a pleasure for show-goers to see Adrienne in her role as President meeting exhibitors and judges, presenting trophies and making sure things run to plan.

Dedicated and professional service will once again be offered by Malvern St John at the Courtenay A & P Show. As well as being active in the ‘car crash’ reenactment with Kirwee Volunteer Fire Brigade they will also provide first aid services for riders in the horse jumping and for the general public. “We enjoy providing this service every year for the community and the Courtenay Show,” said St John Malvern spokesperson Ann Shepherd.

The motor safety demonstration will show the cooperation between the Fire Service and St John to enable patients to be extracted from car crashes with both services working together to enhance the best outcome for p a t i e nt s c o nd i t i o n a nd recovery. The Fire Services in Malvern have regular exercises with St John to ensure that things always progress smoothly at any accident scene. “The Fire Service has amazingly talented people who not only

So far this November the weather has been swinging from one extreme to the other. Given this, I have my fingers and toes crossed that Saturday the 21st of November is a day of the warm, dry variety for the annual Courtenay Show, rather than a cold, wet southerly. Although, with the predictions of a dry El Nino summer, and the very low rainfall our nearby farmers in North Canterbury have received over many months, some wet weather may not be all bad. This year will be the 140th time the Courtenay A & P Show has been held, which reminds us just how long farmers and growers have been thriving in our community. I am sure that over those 140 years there have been many cha nges in t ec hnol ogy and fa rmi ng practices. However what hasn’t changed is the opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbours, celebrate successes and chat about what has been happening in the Courtenay area. The Courtenay Show in Kirwee is always a great family day out with lots of fun for young and

old. While the animals remain the stars of the show, the fairground rides, steam tractors, vintage cars and machinery, and the food and trade stalls are always popular too. This year’s theme centreing around lifestyle block and boutique businesses is a great reflection of the growing diversification in the use of land in our area, with vineyards, nut orchards and many other b us i ness e s jo i ni ng t he traditional sheep and crop farms. I would like to acknowledge the contribution of all those involved in organising this year’s Courtenay A & P Show, including the President Adrienne Begg, Begg and the rest of the organising committee. I would also like to wish the best of luck to everyone who is exhibiting their

work to remove patients from vehicles safely, but often as the first service at the scene, provide a high level of patient care until the ambulance arrives,” Ann added. “The Brigades also provide a safe scene for all emergency workers and where possible, keep the traffic flowing.” Malvern St John's appreciates the expertise provided by the fire fighters who provide an amazing service for the community.

KIRWEE This year’s President has always had strong connections with the Courtenay A & P show; connections which date back to the 1950’s. Surprisingly this year’s President, Adrienne Begg is only the second female that has progressed to that role, with Helen Williams preceding her in 2005. Adrienne’s ascension to the Presidency, appears to be a family tradition beginning with inherited ‘Show genes’ from her father, Tui Macartney, who was President in 1956. Her husband Malcolm took on the role in 1986 followed by son, Stuart in 2010. During this time Adrienne efficiently and professionally continued to undertake the role of secretary. Her father’s involvement in the local community saw Adrienne participate in the annual Show, in one capacity or another, right throughout childhood. “We would look forward to the Show every year,” Adrienne smiled, “as we were able to have a new dress to wear for the big day,” she recalled nostalgically.

Many in the community will recognise Courtenay Show President Adrienne Begg from her many other roles and interests in the community. As well as being a keen tennis and golf player she may also look familiar to patients at the Darfield Medical Centre. Having begun her employment at the Centre in 1964, she left to raise her family before returning, and currently undertakes the role of receptionist, part-time. Adrienne and husband Malcolm (a past Courtenay Show President) are extremely proud to have raised three successful children together; daughter Jayne is a Lawyer and partner at MacTodd in Queenstown and is married with two daughters while their other daughter Sarah, having worked in Customs, Christchurch, is also married with two girls. Son, Stuart is an engineer at Lyndon Harrows in West Melton and has a daughter too. Keeping the family tradition alive Stuart’s involvement with the Show has

For Courtenay A & P Show Secretary Sharon Kellock preparation for the annual event is a twelve month job. Provision of a new purposebuilt office on the Showgrounds means that ongoing work, other than on Show Day, can be done in one place. Previous secretaries have stored/filed vast quantities of administration paperwork at their own homes, often making it a logistical nightmare to be easily accessed. The new office will provide a one-stop-shop for Association administration during non-peak periods. “Entry numbers for this year,” said Sharon, “are sitting at, at least 4,500. Children get their

entries for free so calculating an exact number can be a little difficult. We have a healthy number of trade exhibitors attending, as well as the usual side shows, rides, always great food, lots of cool stalls, and a very impressive array of trade stands. The Show will feature DJ Singh Star, the Ellesmere Pipe Band, children’s entertainer Shad Rutherford and the new attraction - the Arion Farm exhibit in the President's marquee. This will feature gorgeous baby animals for petting: ponies, calves, lambs, goat kids, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and piglets. “We are also very excited to have the University of Otago

'Lab in a Box'. This is a brand new mobile science lab, aimed at children, and is currently touring the South Island. It was at the Kirwee Showgrounds for several days prior to the Show, with many local schools visiting during that time. The Lab, which is in a container, has been impressively designed to open up and is fully equipped with the latest equipment. This is definitely not to be missed. “The always entertaining, neverfails-to-amuse, Terrier Race will once again be run this year. Definitely get your dogs into

Courtenay A & P Show is a valuable venue for the Kirwee Volunteer Fire Brigade as it enables them to bring their fire safety message to the local community. This year will be no different as they once again make their annual appearance. The tireless Volunteer Brigade members donate their time to promote the all important fire safety and motor vehicle safety message to their Show audience and the message is generally very well received. Stressing that prevention is the best weapon against domestic fires, while minimising risk is especially important during the dry summer months, Brigade members will be on hand to answer queries and hand out information. Firefighters will give safety presentations, and as well there will be the opportunity to ask questions and get fire safety tips from those who experience emergency situations first hand. Kirwee Volunteer Fire Brigade attend a variety of emergency situations involving houses and properties, as well as motor vehicle accidents. The appreciated attendance of Fire Brigade volunteers at motor vehicle crash sites can be easily forgotten by those not directly involved with the crash. However, attending crash sites, extracting injured parties from vehicles and dealing with their family members is a harsh reality for the volunteers of Kirwee. Bearing this in mind, a staged demonstration is scheduled, to commence before noon, showing the damage that can be done by failing to stop at a stop sign or intersection. Motor vehicle

Kirwee Volunteer Fire Brigade are excited to be displaying their 1929 Ford Fire Engine. accident numbers have been steadily increasing since 2010 with 2013 recording an all time high of sixteen fatal and 46 serious, crashes in the Selwyn District. “We are staging an extraction demonstration in conjunction with St John to show people what it is that we actually do when faced with passengers trapped in a smashed up vehicle,” explained Stu Jones, Jones Chief Fire Officer of the Kirwee Fire Brigade. The majority of motor vehicle accidents are preventable and the Brigade hope to show the extent of the carnage, as well as what they have to do in an emergency situation. “Failing to stop at a stop sign or not looking prop erly at an intersection causes a ‘T-bone’ accident to occur. These result in passengers being seriously injured and are entirely preventable. We are the ones who see this on a first hand basis and we want people to see what we do,” Stu said. On a lighter note, there will be friendly staff onsite looking forward to answering any

Arion Farm Education Park are excited to be making their debut appearance at this year’s Courtenay A & P Show. Suzie Hynam, Hynam manager of Arion Farm is overtly passionate when it comes to educating children about animals and horticulture and has made Arion farm mobile to reach out to even more people. “We feel this is of benefit to families and children because life is becoming so busy and often housing situations prevent many people from owning their own animals. Animals teach children care, responsibility and empathy toward other beings,” said an impassioned Suzie. The Farm began as an off shoot to the National Trade Academy training organisation for practical work with agriculture and the animal care courses they run. The Farm was previously private and was only made accessible to the public just after the February earthquake when Suzy realised that opening it to families would be beneficial at a time of such change. “It worked really well and we had a great response. We do try to keep our entry fee reasonable, so people can enjoy the Farm on a regular basis, and children can learn the value of animals in their lives.” Arion Farm has a wide variety of animals including, farm animals, l i f e st y l e b lo ck a ni ma l s, companion creatures and even a pest area. They are also extremely proud to currently be involved in a pheasant project in conjunction with Ecan. Suz ie has stro ng local connections as she was born in Darfield and raised in Glentunnel. She attended Glentunnel School and Darfield High School before setting off to chase her dreams of working with animals and nature. Her travels took her around the North Island and Nelson working for the Department of Conservation and for youth training organisations. She returned to Canterbury in 2006 to be closer to her parents (Mervyn Mervyn and Colleen Hynam). Hynam Sadly her Mum has since passed away so Suzie now spends part of her week in Coalgate with her Dad, who lives alone. A year ago she purchased a

I get to talk to people, play with children, work with animals and be outside in our lovely countryside almost every day!” This is the first whole year that the Farm has been open to the general public, welcoming preschools, schools and numerous other groups too. “We are a very hands on place with all animals hand raised and touchable! Children can lead, pat or feed any of our animals and lots of young people volunteer to assist, many with their parents, which is awesome.” Suzie’s ten year’s experience working for Craig Musson, owner of the National Trade Academy, the umbrella organisation to which Arion Farm and Arion riding School belong, has given her the tools and support to create the Farm. Arion Farm Education Park are looking forward to attending the Show, “we are primarily a static farm park, but do go to events such as A & P Shows, as it is great to show people how friendly, animals are.” Suzie exudes a contagious enthusiasm for both animals and children (“I have two grown sons, and six grandchildren and all are animal lovers,”) and she would like to encourage as many people as possible to head along and see the Farm at the show. Lab in a Box is a standard shipping container which has been transformed by Otago Polytech into a cutting edge mobile teaching and research laboratory. Excitingly, this year the innovative laboratory will be at Courtenay Show. Lab in a Box is a project funded through the Nation of Curious Minds contestable fund. The Lab is a standard shipping container (20ft) which has been modified by Otago Polytech – it has a fold-down side and pop-out conservatory extension, thereby doubling the floor space available. There is room for eighteen students seated at benches/tables. The Lab comes equipped with basic science equipment, and can be used by teachers to provide lab space at schools t h a t don ’ t h av e an y. Alternatively, it can be taken on the road - and it is; to Kirwee. “One of the motivating forces behind the creation of the lab was to provide a functioning space for communities which are not readily exposed to science, but who are custodians of our land and water,” enthused Associate Professor and Project leader, Peter Dearden. It is not just schools that benefit from using the lab; there has

also been a keen interest from the rural community for upskilling farmers, bee-keepers etc. Lab in a Box encourages students and adults alike to engage with science by offering the chance for all ages to get their hands dirty, with full on, no holds barred, experimental science. The creators want to encourage people to begin a love affair with science and feel the joy and excitement that the subject can bring. “Hands-on practical work can inspire people in a way that a theoretical explanation just can’t,” explained Professor Deardon. The lab comes equipped with an impressive array of gear, in clu din g tw o ster eo microscopes, a high-speed camera for filming in ultra fast speeds, a programmable telescope and an optical telescope for looking at the sun, a fully automated weather station, GPS unit, walkie talkies and much more. Funding for 2015 has been secured, meaning this year use of the Lab is free to schools. If, however on-going funding can be arranged, then it may continue to be free. This venture is truly an inspiring

This year, for the first time, the Courtenay A & P Association ran a very popular competition to design the front cover of their catalogue. Catalogues are not only used fully on Show Day, but are also often retained long after, as a memory of a win, or just for reference. Having an eye-catching cover, especially one designed locally, adds to the attractiveness of the publication and may even encourage folk to retain more of them! This inaugural Catalogue Cover Competition was won by Kirwee’s Emma Kellock. Emma earnt the judge’s approval, with her pencil sketch of a

sheep's head combined with clear computer text, making it a popular choice to feature on this year’s catalogue cover. Emma’s well-deserved prize includes a day out at the Show for her and her friends. A day out that includes ice creams from One Scoop or Two, a takeaway voucher from the Kebab King and fairground rides from Sturgeon’s Amusements. Highly commended entries were also received from Sophie Williams (Villa Maria), Daisy Prosser (Darfield Primary School) and Charlotte Woolley (Kirwee School) who will each receive free ice cream and a ride on Sturgeons amusements at the Show.

Televis ion view ers an d gardeners alike will be well acquainted with the celebrity guest making his appearance at this year’s Courtenay A & P Show. Supporting Lab in a Box will be ‘The Bugman’, Ruud Kleinpaste. Kleinpaste Ruud confesses to having always had a fascination with creepy crawlies, along with a passion for natural history which led him to a successful career in entomology (study of insects). He has constantly strived to change people’s perception of insects and the small things in life which make the world function as a whole. “There needs to be discussion around biodiversity (and how we are losing it!) plus bugs and ecosystem services, especially what we can learn from it all. We also need to talk about our economic thinking and how we can become a more sharing and collaborative species on this Planet,” Ruud added. His desire to both entertain and inform brought about his ‘Bugman’ persona - created as result of a Newstalk ZB talk show. Numerous public and televised appearances (for both adults and children) followed, all promoting the importance of insects and other invertebrates. “The things bugs (and all other biodiversity species) do for us is absolutely incredible; from pollination of crops and plants to dung removal, as well as waste-recycling and keeping the balance. They provide food chains and technological ideas too. The up-shot is that without bugs (and biodiversity) this planet and humanity wouldn't survive for more than a few

months - and that is reality!” Ruud stressed. As well as being an advocate for bugs, Ruud feels very strongly about promoting the need for learning, which is why he is supporting Lab in a Box this weekend. Alongs ide an extens ive r epert oir e of s cient if ic ambassadorships and television appearances Ruud is a strong advocate for science education in the school curriculum. Especially education outside the classroom, where there is plenty of science to be learned! This is exactly what the Lab in a Box facility provides; the mobile ability to enable scientific learning from anywhere it can be transported to. While in the lab, Ruud will be chatting about the science and life lessons which are able to be learned from the surroundings. He wants to be part of the movement which inspires the younger generation to become s cien c e l it er at e. Ru u d remembers that as a child, his parents taught him to have respect for other people and nature and he has merely continued to expand these basic values and spread the word to others about the importance of nature. “Now I am on a bandwagon to create cohort after cohort of Natureliterate New Zealanders and I reckon it's gotta be delivered through the way we teach the entire curriculum: Outside, where there's plenty of inspiration!” Between Ruud and Lab in a Box there will be some of New Zealand’s finest scientists on

site. This definitely will not be like the science classes of twenty years ago though. These scientists want to reach out to the next generation and one of the surest ways to do this, is by making it fun! They encourage Showgoers to go along to the Lab and see what all the fuss is about. “This is going to be grand! for the region, the Province, for students and science,” Ruud concluded enthusiastically.

The Ellesmere Highland Pipe Band (EHPB) will again entertain the crowds at the Courtenay A & P Show this year. This makes it (at the very least), their 64th year of providing entertainment to the masses. The band was originally formed after the war, on May 27th, 1946. Wherever those of

Scottish birth settled after emigrating from their native land, they took with them their culture, literature and music from the rich heritage that was theirs. The foundations for the current band were laid when a Highland Pipe Band was formed in Leeston, circa 1924. Robert Patterson was elected as president and practises were held at the Leeston Hotel which has led to many a colourful story being told about their past experiences. Unfortunately, the band hit hard times and parted ways in 1932. A meeting in Leeston, some fourteen years later, led to the reformation of the EHPB, including members of the forming Patterson family, on the committee. They fulfilled many local engagements with just eight pipers and four drummers, and went on to have considerable success at Dominion contest levels. The 1960’s saw troubled times for the Band with member levels dwindling. It was the efforts of the most loyal bandsmen, including the younger generations of the Patterson family who persevered for a decade, with the Band’s reduced circumstance. Most of the more mature members of the Band have been involved since 1953 and all members, both players and administrators, have contributed to its successful

history. The members of the band are now as high as they were in 1953 and Colin Patterson, grandson of founding member Robert Patterson explained: “We have been around for a long time and did not want to close our doors. We capitalised on the influx of people to Selwyn and the Band has made great strides since. We now also have a drumming and piping school in Rolleston.” C o l i n i s u n d e r s ta n d a b ly passionate about the bagpipes and is happy in the knowledge that securing new members will help secure the Band’s future for the next one hundred years. He looks forward to the Courtenay Show. “We have been playing at Kirwee since at least 1951 and really look forward to going there. They have been very good to us over the years and it is great to be able to give back.” Colin is still a piper in the band and a trustee. He exudes pride when he speaks of all the members who have kept the band going over the years. Both administrators and pipers have generational ties going right back to the Band’s founding. The same pride is also apparent when speaking of the progress of the younger generation - the band’s future.

The 2015 Courtenay A & P Show will feature a special display from the Black and Coloured Sheep Breeders Association (BCSBA). There will be everything from pens of sheep to spinning wheels and additionally four black and coloured classes have been included in the wool section this year. In 1976 the BCSBA was created by a group of enthusiastic farmers in the Manawatu region. Th e popu lar it y of th e Association was apparent as more and more branches were added to accommodate demand. There are now twelve branches throughout New Zealand, formed by people who breed coloured sheep for their wool to be used in craftwork. Georgie Fairless, Fairless of the Mid Canterbury Association and Branch Reporter, joined the Association in 1997, starting with six Romney ewe hoggets. Her interest in coloured wool quickly grew, as did her flock which at its peak numbered twenty, including a ram. A land downsize sees Georgie now running three coloured ewes to sustain her hobby of spinning to make hats and gloves. “While we have members who travel from all over the area including Rangiora, Ashburton and Banks Peninsula, we are currently trying to get our name out there and attract new members,” Georgie said. To assist with this membership drive we are securing Trade Stands at A & P shows throughout the year.” Members who join not only gain advice and information, but also gain lifelong friendships with others who have the same interests. The number of sheep owned by members varies from four to 400, depending on lifestyle and income goals. Each Branch plays host to an annual conference between the North and South Island, giving members an opportunity to meet face to face, while gathering tips and information. The A.G.M. is held at the conference along with the opportunity of undertaking a bus trip to explore the beautiful countryside, while relaxing and having fun.

Following the success of last years inaugural classic and vintage car display the Courtenay A & P Show will stage this audience-favourite, once more. Vintage car enthusiast, Kelvin Kimber will again be assisting with the organisation of this section. Kelvin, owner of four vintage Jaguars, has a genuine passion, not just for cars but also for events like the Courtenay Show where owners can show off their ’babies’ and the public can enjoy a blast from the past. There was a steady stream of car enthusiasts viewing the vehicles lined up last year and

it’s hoped for another excellent turnout at this year’s Show. There will be recognition for ‘People’s Choice’ winners in each of the three categories. • Veteran and vintage vehicles pre 1931 • Post Vintage and war vehicles 1932-1960 • Post 1960 vehicles Vintage tractors and machinery have long been a crowd favourite at the show, but the introduction of veteran/vintage and classic cars was also extremely well received. commented, “it’s a great chance to polish them up, get them out of the shed or barn and bring them to Kirwee for others to also enjoy.”
