Saturday, October 17th saw members of the community and officials gather for the blessing and the official-start-of-use of the new Darfield, St John building on Bray Street. Officiating Kaumata Matua Henare Edwards, Edwards Pat Nutira, Daphne O’Connell, Denise Sheat and Margaret Jones from Te Taumutu Runanga re-turned the sod (subsequent to the turning of the sod ceremony held before the building began) before blessing the building. The ambulances were also blessed with similar ceremony ambulance which now appear in yellow instead of the familiar white. The blessing also appeared to drive away the rain which had plagued the event, and bring out the sunshine. Donors and long term supporters of St John Malvern were invited to attend the blessing before enjoying
