This year’s Spring Challenge all girl multisport ‘schools’ section was held in Wanaka and dominated by three Darfield High School students (Team ‘These Boots are Made for Walking’). The girls were required to run, raft, mountain bike and orienteer their way through the picturesque Central Otago countryside. The three hour race was navigated by Darfield High School Head of Sport Prefect, Amanda Schnell who led teammates Kylie Schnell and Harriet Watson to victory. The team had been practicing navigation and map reading skills to ensure they knew where they were at all times and their skill was apparent during the event. The team had a great start to the race with a fast mountain bike run putting them in contention to win. This speedy first round was almost reversed when they were overtaken in the second round. Digging deep, they overtook again to secure the win. The girls had always hoped to do well, but exceeded even their

Their team placed sixteenth overall out of 133 teams in the three hour event. Teams must navigate, run,
mountain bike and white water raft over a course set in different parts of the South Island and Nelson will host the
next Spring Challenge - expect to see Darfield High School well represented again in 2016.
