On Sunday, October 29th, The Friends’ of Darfield Hospital together with Nurse Manager Leanne Davie and her staff, held an Open Afternoon to celebrate the ninety years of splendid service provided by the Hospital and its many staff members, to the local community. The hospital officially opened on May 27th 1927. Invited guests included Mayor Sam Broughton, Broughton local Member of Parliament Hon Amy Adams, Adams Win McDonald representing the C.D.H.B., and several local body and health sector personnel. It was pleasing also to have good
support from local residents. It added a special touch to the celebrations, to have present two special people, who were born at the hospital during the very first year. Zelda Walker nee Jenkins, Jenkins was the very first baby born at the hospital. Records indicate that Zelda was born on May 15th, which was twelve days prior to the official opening of the facility. Vera Brosnahan nee Clinton, Clinton is registered as the tenth baby born on September 1st. We are most grateful to their respective families for enabling them to be present.
