An ‘animals at the zoo adventure’ is on to bring a fun way to help children aged 5 - 8 learn tips to self-regulate emotions and take care of their minds and bodies. KidsFest is an annual two-week Council events programme, produced for Canterbury children aged 0-17 years. The festival offers a number of exciting events and activities through the winter school holidays (July 1st16th).

Children and their families can have fun with crafts, science, performing arts, sports and technology. KidsFest has been entertaining tamariki since its creation in 1992.

Parents are encouraged to sign up early to make sure they can secure spots for their children in their preferred sessions.

‘Art Above’ came about in an effort to fill the fantastic upstairs mezzanine floor of E-Mega Store, New Zealand’s largest E-Bike store, based on Cranford Street. Originally the brainchild of local Kirwee girl Jasmine Lochore and Kaiapoi artist Lisa Patrick , ‘Art Above’ showcases a huge range of hundreds of hand painted paintings, sculptures and other mixed media pieces in a variety of different mediums and price points.

Kiwi artists can show their unique talents and mediums in their own zone in the gallery. Being on the large mezzanine floor of Jasmine’s local bike shop was a strange fit, but has created a very unique atmosphere with the fun and exciting downstairs action contrasted with the calm, on-looking upstairs serenity.

Thursday, June 15th, marked the huge Grand Opening night of ‘Art Above’, with a guest speaker, silent Auction and drinks all around. A true homage to the opening of another great art space for Christchurch locals.

The night was attended by over one hundred and fifty people and even some local artists showcasing art in the gallery. Overall it was a fantastic night that went extremely well for all involved, ‘Art Above’ is now officially open to the public, and they welcome you to come and experience all it has to offer! You can also visit ‘Art Above’ at their second store address at Bush Inn Mall, Riccarton.
