Earlier this year, as part of National Volunteers Week, local St John sta celebrated, with just seven of the sta present clocking up 200 years equivalent of service to their community. Most of those were still fully active members. Last Sunday, we celebrated again, recognising our local volunteers. Because of the ongoing Covid pandemic, St John has not held Award events, so members have not been recognised by their peers. Around fifty people gathered at our Darfield Station, where a number of members were honoured. Fourteen people who have given 260 years equivalent to St John were presented with service medals or bars, unfortunately, some were unable to attend. Around fifty people gathered at our Darfield Station. St John Service Award structure recognises 5 year increments of continuous service, with this latest celebration only recognising those with 10 years or greater. A medal is presented at Year 10, with a bar added for each 5 year block. Of course, there were others in the room that had completed many years of service as well, but outside these anniversary bands. Most of this service was for recognising operational involvement in Ambulance, Events or Youth, but also those that have served on the Area Committee or in some other capacity. This may be at a local level, but some have had input at a regional or national governance level. Congratulations to all those recognised, your commitment to St John is truly appreciated. We also presented a ‘Priory Vote of Thanks’ to Jannetta Thomas Jannetta Thomas Jannetta Thomas Jannetta Thomas, formerly of Property Brokers, for her ongoing work fundraising for St John.
