Recently, senior staff members from three local dairy farms were invited to attend the Fonterra Te Tihi Cooperative Difference programme awards ceremony to acknowledge excellence within the dairy industry. Hollands Farm Limited owners John and Alison Gray from Springfield have three farms (two at Greendale and one at Waddington) who supply Fonterra, Darfield. The Greendale farms, are managed by contract milkers Amanda and Edson Guadagnin and the Waddington farm is managed by Filipe Casagrande. The award-winning group is an international mix, including staff from Brazil, Ukraine, Uruguay, France and New Zealand; all have worked their way up in the Hollands Farm business from dairy assistant to management positions over the past ten to fifteen years. Te Tihi is about celebrating those in the Co-operative who consistently deliver the highest quality milk. To achieve Te Tihi, a minimum of ninety percent of the days that farmers supply milk during the season must be at the Excellence standard. There is no additional payment for Te Tihi, it is simply about recognising those at the top of their game. This Award is given to the top four percent of dairy farms in the country. The Te Tihi Cooperative Difference programme is a new initiative and reflects the efforts Fonterra suppliers are making to continue improving environmental, animal welfare and community outcomes. All three farms were in the top 10% of Fonterra suppliers.
