On February 19th the 2022 Tasman Regional Final for the FMG Young Farmer of the Year Contest will take place in Springston. The organisers would love to see you there to support the contestants (Archie Woodhouse, Phoebe Smailes, Andrew Allan, Jonny Brown, Sam Smithers, Ash Foley, George Dodson, Blair Anglesey) as they go head to head in a variety of events. Contestants will have the opportunity to be awarded points from the following categories; Agri-Knowledge and Agri-Business (100 points each), Agri-Sports (200 points) and Agri -Skills (400 points). It will be a fun filled day celebrating farming, and at the end the next Tasman Young Farmer of the Year will be crowned.

Convenor, Steph Kelly from Darfield Young Farmers.

Darfield Young Farmers member, Steph Kelly is this years convenor. Steph moved to Christchurch in March 2021 after spending the majority of her life in Palmerston North. She initially joined the Opiki Young Farmers Club and is now the secretary of the Darfield Young Farmers Club as well as the secretary of the Tasman Young Farmers region. Competitors: Jonny Brown (31, Dunsandel Young Farmers, Farm Manager, Fourth Regional Final). Jonny manages a Dairy Holdings Ltd farm in Bankside, milking 1,300 cows on 341 hectares. An industry he’s extremely passionate about, he’s spent his career working through the ranks of dairying, contract milking and farm management, mainly around Canterbury.

Archie Woodhouse (20, Lincoln Young Farmers, Student, Firsttime competitor). Archie is in his third year at Lincoln University and has had the opportunity to work on several different properties including a high country station while studying. He was raised on a sheep and beef farm just out of Eketahuna in the Manawatū/ Whanganui region and has always had a love of the land and agriculture.
