The 70th Taranaki Women’s Open Fours was held in New Plymouth on January 25th-30th, with alterations to the format made due to the traffic light red conditions. The Competition is the second biggest in New Zealand after the Nationals Tournament. A local combined Darfield and Kirwee Bowling Club team consisting of Hazel Littlejohn, Jo Latter, Susan Baldwin, and Marian Galloway competed. The team won two of their six games over the first three days of play. Eliminated from the Fours competition, the team, divided into pairs and competed in the Pairs Competition for the remaining two days. The pairs team consisting of Hazel Littlejohn and Jo Latter made it to the final four and were placed third equal on Saturday. The Women’s Fours team. Susan Baldwin, Jo Latter, Hazel Littlejohn, and Marian Galloway.

The Malvern Men’s and Women’s Open Singles Competition was held at the Darfield Bowling Club last weekend.

In the Men’s Competition Bob Shorter of Darfield (pictured), beat Bob Burnett of West Melton 21-8. In the Women’s Competition Bronwyn Hamilton (pictured), of Darfield beat Ali Gardner of West Melton 21-10.
