Boarding at The Downs Malvern

Meet the Warlows Set within the beautiful Malvern Hills, Sarah and I are proud to lead boarding at The Downs Malvern and to welcome children into a community that quickly feels like home.
We are there when challenges arise and guide children through them with care. They leave us ready for the next stage of their education and proud of the community they have been part of.
We have worked in Prep School boarding for over 25 years and have raised our own children, along with our dogs, within boarding houses. As such, we appreciate the trust families place in us and we take that responsibility and privilege seriously.
We would be delighted to welcome you to visit, meet our team and experience boarding at The Downs Malvern for yourself.
Our boarders range in age from Year 3 to Year 8 and join us from across the UK and overseas, bringing with them a fantastic variety of backgrounds and cultures. Alongside a dedicated resident team, including two onsite matrons, we ensure that every boarder, whether full, weekly or flexi, feels known and supported within a close community. One of the advantages of being a smaller setting is that we notice the little things. We see confidence grow. We see independence develop.

Accommodation Our boarding house is bright, relaxed and a place to call their own. Bedrooms are modern and comfortable, and children are encouraged to personalise their space with photos and familiar items from home. Two spacious common rooms sit at the heart of the house, offering a place to unwind together in the evenings after a busy school day. Boarders also enjoy full access to the school’s facilities, from sports fields and games areas to extensive outdoor space. Pastoral care is central to boarding life. Our Houseparents lead a resident team who share evenings and weekends with the children, creating a strong sense
of belonging. Two on-site matrons provide round-the-clock medical care, including separate overnight accommodation should a child feel unwell. Laundry is managed and boarders receive three freshly prepared meals each day, with snacks readily available throughout the day.

Weekends Weekends at The Downs Malvern are busy and packed-full of choice. Saturday mornings begin with our Hobbies programme, where children explore interests ranging from Horse Riding and Robotics to Mountain Biking, Cookery, Art and even operating our miniature steam train, The Downs Light Railway. Sports fixtures are a popular mainstay of Saturday afternoons, while throughout the year boarders enjoy organised trips such as
go-karting, Laser Quest, cinema visits, water parks, hikes on the Malvern Hills and outings to places of historical interest. Themed evenings and group house events add to the sense of shared experience. Weekends are carefully structured yet relaxed. Children are active and engaged, but they also have time to unwind and spend time with friends, enjoying the balance that boarding life offers.

Gather some fallen leaves and press them between the pages, or try your hand at some bark rubbings. You could sketch things you’ve spotted around campus or pop in some photos of you and your friends. Make this page entirely your own!
