TRIBUTE TO MARGARET FOR HER INVOLVEMENT IN THE SANTA SHOE BOX

For 10 years Margaret Hofmeyr’s name has been synonymous with Santa Shoe Box in Ladybrand and district. Her passion for the disadvantaged children’s Christmas project was born out of a visit to her brother and sister-in-law where she encountered their involvement in the project and immediately it resonated positively with her. With great excitement and enthusiasm, she brought the project to Ladybrand as coordinator for the area inspired by the pictures she saw of love and appreciation shown both by the sponsors of as well as the recipients of the precious gifts.

Each year Margaret and her team of like-minded helpers would ensure that suitable beneficiary schools would be identified, names

captured on the database and matched with donors that had made pledges for that purpose. She would lovingly ensure that every single gift was checked and re-checked in order that no mistakes could be made and that the contents of each shoebox matched the age of the child.

Alongside her full-time commitments to her estate agency business, Margaret found time to manage the entire project calling in assistance only when the logistical burden began to overwhelm. Her home and office were always filled with shoeboxes that were evidence of her commitment and passion for the project. She always gave unselfishly of herself and her time to ensure that the true meaning of Christmas was brought into the lives

DIVERSE YOUNG GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Whilst waiting to start her university studies in the northern hemisphere later in the year, Liopelo Ntema decided to seize the opportunity and used the time to enroll for the Ladybird Graphic Digital Design certificate.

She is an eighteen-yearold student who aspires to embrace her passion for meteorology and build it into her future career. Through graphic design she aims to further develop her skills as an artist to be able to incorporate her creative ideas into new realities for a better world. This diverse young student has ambitions to study law and

thereafter meteorology at –she hopes - the University of Oklahoma.

Liopelo achieved her Graphic Design certificate with distinction. Her course encompassed the following design subjects: business stationery, product mockup, packaging, repeat pattern, typographic poster, poem illustration, and book or magazine cover design layout.

We wish Liopelo the very best for the future. May you achieve all your aspirations.

Ingredients:

2 x 250 g thawed chicken livers

Barbeque spice

SPAR sunflower or olive oil

1 large onion, diced

5 ml SPAR bottled garlic puree 150 ml SPAR canned diced

Method:

tomato

250 g sliced mushrooms, rinsed and patted dry

100 ml SPAR hot fruit chutney

4 FRESHLINE Mini Foccacia, warmed according to pack instructions

Generously spice the livers with Barbeque spice, and toss them in 15 ml heated oil until cooked through. Remove from pot and set aside. Add a little more oil to the pot, and lightly sauté the onion and garlic together. Add in the mushrooms and sauté for 2 minutes until softened. Add the tomato and chutney and simmer gently for 3 minutes.

Add the livers back into the pot and reheat in the sauce. Check for seasoning.

Pile onto warmed foccacia halves and serve immediately.

The 2nd round of the Ladybrand Business League 2023, sponsored by OVK, was played on the 10th June 2023 at Ladybrand Golf Club.

The results are as follows: Shield Security 8 –OVK2 4, Ottershaw Beefmasters 10 – Gordon’s 2, OVK1 12 – Suzuki Motors 0, Vastrap Boran 6 – Maluti Media 6 and Incredible4 8 – Green Demons 4. The I.P.S. results were: 1st Billie Yang 38, 2nd André Kotze 37, 3rd Johnny Lin 37, 4th Barry Newton 36, 5th Craig Smith 36 and 6th Po-Yi Chen 36.

won with 37 points.
