BACKSTAGE WITH THE PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Welcome to the spectacular finale of our 20th Anniversary Season, 42nd Street! Bringing this tap dance extravaganza to our stage was no small feat. This is the largest physical production ever mounted on the Maltz Jupiter Theatre stage! With our expanded production facilities, we are just starting to stretch our wings and push our boundaries, and the future of what we can accomplish looks incredibly bright.

If you haven’t seen the news yet, we have announced our 2024/25 Season and it’s shaping up to be a record-breaker in its own right! We are beginning the season with Deceived, a brand new adaptation of the classic thriller Gaslight, following up by the musically enchanting, Tony Award®winning Once. At the top of 2025 we have the privilege to be one of the first regional theatres in the country to produce Disney’s Frozen. Next up is the 2022 Tony Award®-winning play The Lehman Trilogy, which follows the lives of the Lehman brothers from when they arrived in America to the collapse of their investment firm in 2008. To close, we are bringing back a classic title from my first season as Artistic Director, Guys and Dolls. Last summer, we asked our audiences to rank their top favorite titles from shows that we have produced during our twenty year history, and Guys & Dolls was the resounding favorite. We are so excited to bring the title back with fresh perspectives and new ideas. Trust me, even if you have seen the show before, you will not want to miss it this time.

Our 2024/25 lineup will also be the first season with shows mounted in The Island Theatre. This new black box space will be the home of two traditional plays and a unique lineup of limited engagements, making next year the largest season we have ever produced! Included in your program is your guide to The Island Theatre, so be sure to take it with you! Subscribers who have renewed for 2024/25 will be able to purchase tickets for The Island Theatre on Monday, April 15, 2024, and tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, April 22, 2024.

The summer is fast approaching, but there will still be plenty of activity around the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Our Goldner Conservatory is preparing a variety of summer camps for all ages, along with two production camps: Mean Girls for grades 8 through 12 and The Wizard of Oz for grades 4 through 7. There is still space available, so head over to our website to learn more about camp enrollment.

I would like to thank our dedicated volunteers for all of their tireless work this season. Our corps of over 350 volunteers are the true heart of our organization. Without them, we would not be able to bring you the true Maltz Jupiter Theatre experience that you come to expect. From filing, to collecting tickets, to bartending, to airport pickups, there is always some aspect of our organization that requires their talents. Thank you for your generous donation of time!

And last but not least, thank YOU for joining us. We hope you have an excellent summer, and we cannot wait to have you back here next fall!

Warren & Dubin wrote several Broadway musicals and revues, including White Lights (1927) and Streets of Paris (1939). They wrote songs for over two dozen Hollywood musicals, including Gold Diggers of Broadway (1929), Sally (1929), 42nd Street (1933), Moulin Rouge (1934),

Dames (1934), Stars Over Broadway (1935), Streets of Paris (1939) and Stage Door Canteen (1943). Their combined output of songs can only be described as astonishing. Highlights include “Shuffle Off to Buffalo,” “You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me,” “Keep Young and Beautiful,” “We’re In the Money,” “The Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “I Only Have Eyes for You,” and “Lullaby of Broadway.” Al Dubin, born in Switzerland in 1891, died in NY in 1945. Harry Warren was born in Brooklyn in 1893 and passed away in 1981. His first hit song was written in 1922, and he scored his last movie in 1962. His other collaborators included Ira Gershwin, Billy Rose, Joe Young, Gus Kahn, Arthur Freed, Johnny Mercer, Mack Gordon, Mort Dixon, Bud Green and Ralph Blane.

WHAT IS THE ISLAND THEATRE?

The Island Theatre is a flexible seating space that was designed to create versatility in theatre presentation configurations.  Also known as a “black box” theatre, this two-story large room can offer up to 198-seats for a traditional play, smaller more non-traditional set-ups such as theatre-in-the-round, cabaret-style seating for more intimate offerings.

HOW DOES THE ISLAND THEATRE DIFFER FROM CURRENT OFFERINGS?

This “Second Space” will program both traditional plays, one-night shows and exciting limited-run events.  Typically, it will focus on productions that would not be presented on our MainStage or on shows that would benefit from being in an intimate setting.

WHEN CAN I BUY TICKETS?

Tickets for The Island Theatre will go on sale to the general public on Monday, April 22, and may be purchased online or at our box office.

Circle of Friends members and those that have submitted their 2024/25 Season Subscription* will get EARLY ACCESS to buy tickets, beginning Monday, April 15.

WILL THE ISLAND THEATRE OFFER A SUBSCRIPTION?

No. Due to the diversity of styles of offerings in this space, The Island Theatre productions can only be purchased individually.

WHAT KINDS OF SHOWS WILL BE IN THE ISLAND THEATRE?

Glad you asked!  Enclosed in this program is a guide to the wide range of productions we are offering in this space next season, beginning in October.  Please hold onto this brochure so you can refer back to it when you’re planning your schedule.

HOW WILL THIS NEW THEATRE AFFECT PARKING?

Shows in the MainStage and The Island Theatre will NEVER be produced at the same time, so you do not have to worry about parking. As always, carpooling is highly recommended, and be sure to arrive early if you need handicap parking as spaces are limited.

ANY “WORDS OF WISDOM?”

This space has extremely limited seating so events will sell out fast.  Get your tickets early!

Also, make sure you are part of our e-Club to stay informed on all we’re doing here at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.  Scan this QR code to join our e-Club today!

*If you are a current Season Subscriber, we must have your renewal form submitted by April 5th in order for you to get advance purchasing power for The Island Theatre.

ARTS CHANGE LIVES: A CASE FOR FUNDING

Education plays a paramount role in our mission, especially when schools face budget cuts in their arts programs. Understanding the importance of fostering creative thinkers, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s Goldner Conservatory provides an important outlet for our local children to explore their dreams.

With the successful completion of our 8,600 square foot expansion, the Goldner Conservatory will, once again, have a permanent home in our facilities. The state-of-the-art design of our studios and classrooms and their strategic placement on the third floor of our new building, offers students unprecedented access to industry professionals. The close proximity of the Conservatory to our Broadway-scaled stage, the 199-seat Second Space, and the three-story Production Center further increases opportunities for students, creating a unique environment for artistic growth that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
