You bought your palazzo 12 years ago, before Valletta was undergoing high levels of regeneration: how much easier is it to repair, rejuvenate and renovate these historical buildings today?

When we purchased in Valletta, no builder even wanted to venture in to the city if they could help it! The buildings were considered difficult to renovate and most Maltese builders just wanted to work on new build projects. So back then, it really felt as though we were the pioneers. Today is a totally different story - thank goodness. It's amazing what has happened and how Valletta has completely rejuvenated itself - almost on a daily basis. I am so delighted to see so many other people appreciating the experience that Valletta and its palazzos can offer. New owners appreciate the context, the romanticism and the very special architecture of such an historic and unique city as Valletta.

With your experience as both an international designer and the owner of a palazzo, what would you advise new owners to do first?

In your opinion, which is the most beautiful palazzo in Malta and why?

There is not really one‌ but I favour Verdala which is more like a castle. I am fortunate to host an annual fund-raising dinner for MICAS, the new contemporary art and design space that is due to open in 2022. I sit on the board and help raise funds and support for the space. I do enjoy entertaining and my dining room in Valletta seats twenty four - luckily Verdala seats many more - maybe I should have found a bigger Palazzo in Valletta!?
