Sí, me gustan los sombreros. Estos objetos levantan mi pasión por su belleza y versatilidad. Pasear por los mercados locales, conocer las últimas novedades y también probarme los sombreros más tradicionales hace que, irremediablemente, quiera llevarme uno a casa.

Do I like hats? I do! I am passionate about hats, they are beautiful and versatile. To browse around local markets, see the latest models, as well as the most traditional ones, and try them on, makes me undoubtedly look forward to taking one home.

Ja, ich mag Hüte. Diese Objekte wecken meine Leidenschaft wegen ihrer Schönheit und Vielseitigkeit. Wenn ich über die Märkte streife, die neuesten Trends, aber auch die traditionellen Hüte anprobiere, entsteht bei mir der Wunsch, einen mit nach Haus zu nehmen.

Mit diesem Accessoire, das so sehr mit unserer Kultur verbunden ist, möchte ich die kunsthandwerkliche Tradition weitergeben, die auf unseren Inseln noch immer lebendig ist. Daher haben wir den Hut, der auf der Titelseite erscheint, von Anfang bis Ende per Hand angefertigt und dafür unseren Zungenstoff („tela de llengües“) verarbeitet.

Con este complemento, tan arraigado a nuestra cultura, me gustaría transmitir la tradición artesanal que sigue firme y latente en nuestras islas. Hemos creado de principio a fin el sombrero que aparece en la portada, trabajando a mano la nostra tela de llengües.

Through this accessory, which is so deeply rooted in our culture, I would like to expose the artisanal tradition that remains firmly embedded in our islands culture. Piezas únicas de cristal en una tienda con una historia centenaria

Descending this natural canyon is one of the most famous excursions in the island.

La tradición de vidriería de Mallorca lleva asentada en la isla varios miles de años, pero fue la familia Gordiola la que le otorgó el prestigio actual hace ya varias generaciones. En las estanterías de su tienda de Palma se sucede un gran número de piezas de decoración, además de cristalería, servicio de mesa y decoración.

Gracias a la técnica de soplado y a su fabricación totalmente artesanal, cada uno de los objetos es único e irrepetible.

This natural canyon is three kilometres long with walls that reach a height of 200 m in places. It’s number three on our list of Mallorca’s secrets and was declared a natural monument in 2003. Torrent de Pareis starts near the town Escorca and converges with two other torrents to end up in one of the most stunning beaches on the island, the Sa Calobra beach.

Den dritten Rang der Geheimnisse Mallorcas nimmt diese drei Kilometer lange Schlucht ein, deren Felswände bis zu 200 Meter hoch ragen und die 2003 zum Naturdenkmal erklärt wurde. Die Schlucht mit ihrem Wasserlauf beginnt im Gemeindegebiet Escorca, nimmt auf ihrem Weg zwei weitere Sturzbäche auf und endet in einer der eindrucksvollsten Buchten der Insel, Sa Calobra.

Die Wanderung durch die Schlucht Torrent de Pareis von Escorca aus gehört zu den Ausflugsklassikern auf Mallorca. Sie ist sehr eindrucksvoll, aber auch gefährlich, weshalb sie nur für Erwachsene mit der entsprechenden Fitness in Begleitung eines Ortkundigen empfohlen wird.

La artesanía en su estado más puro la encontraremos en Ca’n Garanya. Un lugar en el que zapatos como las porqueres, productos de esparto y tradicionales artículos de decoración transportan hasta las raíces más ancestrales de Mallorca.

Ca’n Garanya is home to craftsmanship in its purest state. A place where traditional footwear such as “porqueres”, esparto fibre products and traditional ornaments take us back to days gone by in Majorca.

This emblematic establishment in Manacor has been run by several generations of the same family, and forms a part of the town’s history and essence of the Mediterranean. It was set up in 1928 selling typical esparto fibre and cordage, and has been gradually developing to keep in line with current trends; it has never lost its hold on its original Majorcan spirit.

In 1972 it changed tack to focus more on craft and decoration and in 2004 it changed direction again moving into fashion accessories such as handbags and footwear. All the shops belonging to this historical establishment are in the same street, where numbers 51, 30 and 40 have their own hallmark: Ca’n Garanya.

Han sido varias las generaciones que han regentado este emblemático comercio de Manacor, muy ligado a la historia del municipio y a la esencia mediterránea.

Empezó en el año 1928 con productos de esparto y cordería típica y, poco a poco, ha ido innovando. Eso sí, siempre manteniendo el alma mallorquina con la que nació.

En el año 1972 apostó por la artesanía y decoración, y en 2004 innovó hacia el segmento de la moda con bolsos y zapatos. Todas las tiendas de este histórico comercio están en la misma calle, donde los números 51, 30 y 40 tienen su propio sello: el de Ca’n Garanya.

Listo para Comer La innovación y la transformación marcan la línea evolutiva de Mercadona. A día de hoy, la empresa cuenta tanto con supermercados físicos como online. Un proyecto con el cual pretenden reforzar la calidad de su servicio y ofrecer a sus clientes una mejor experiencia de compra.

Uno de sus lanzamientos más punteros ha sido la implantación de la nueva sección “Listo para Comer”, un servicio de comida recién hecha que se inició en un supermercado de la localidad de Burjassot (València) con la función de poder probar y aprender. Una vez finalizado el laboratorio de prueba, incorporado en 11 supermercados de la provincia de Valencia, en las Baleares se pueden encontrar hasta cuatro puntos donde comprar comida lista para consumir. Todos ellos ubicados en zonas estratégicas como son Palmanova, Cala Rajada, Manacor y en Puig d’en Valls (Santa Eulària des Riu, Eivissa). A finales de 2019 serán 250

los supermercados de la cadena que contarán con este práctico servicio.

“Listo para Comer” ofrece hasta 35 platos preparados y recién hechos, que han sido definidos durante las sesiones de trabajo que la compañía ha mantenido con 800 clientes. Los consumidores pueden personalizar algunos de ellos como las pastas, pizzas o ensaladas, con los ingredientes que más les gusten. El servicio pretende ser parte de una experiencia de compra total para todos los clientes de Mercadona, que además de llevarse a casa los productos propios del supermercado tendrán la oportunidad de disponer de comida preparada y a punto para degustar.

Ready to Eat Innovation and transformation set the scene for Mercadona’s evolution. The company now has physical and online supermarkets. This project was designed to enhance the quality of their service and the shopping experience.

One of their most recent innovations is the new “Ready to Eat” section consisting of freshly cooked food which was first tested at their store in Burjassot (Valencia) as a pilot learning experience. After testing this initiative at 11 supermarkets in Valencia province, we can now buy ready to eat food at four stores in the Balearic Islands.

All of them are strategically located in Palmanova, Cala Rajada, Manacor and Puig d’en Valls (Santa Eulària des Riu, Ibiza). By the end of 2019 there will be 250 Mercadona supermarkets providing this practical service.

Paquita Llorens Ribas, presidenta de la Associació Cultural i Artesanal Eivissenca Eines i Feines, lleva 15 años elaborando productos artesanos. Su objetivo es mantener la esencia, la tradición y la cultura de la isla ¿En Ibiza todavía podemos encontrar artículos hechos de forma artesanal?

Sí, pero de cada vez menos. Hay mucha imitación de lo típico ibicenco. ¿Quiere decir que la artesanía ha sido absorbida por las grandes cadenas?

Más que por las grandes cadenas por los pequeños comerciantes. Hay muchos que hacen productos industriales evitando los pasos del proceso artesanal.

Y en un mercadillo, ¿cómo podemos diferenciar una pieza artesana de otra que no lo es?

En el precio. Una espardenya ibicenca artesanal ronda los 300€ y una industrial puede costar 30€. Además, los puestos artesanales suelen tener un cartel distintivo del Consell Insular de Eivissa. ¿Qué peligros tiene la artesanía?

Que la gente joven no quiera continuar con este aprendizaje, tradición y cultura.

Necesitamos que se implique porque si no podría llegar a desaparecer. ¿Qué se puede hacer para mantenerla?

Las instituciones y colegios ayudan, pero para que tenga continuidad se debería concienciar más a los niños de la importancia que tiene en la cultura.

A día de hoy, ¿dónde cree que se sitúa la artesanía ibicenca a nivel nacional e internacional?

Está en un buen momento. Hemos ido a varias ferias nacionales e internacionales y la gente responde. Se sorprenden con el trabajo que supone.

Her aim is to maintain the essence, tradition and culture of the island Can we still find products crafted artisanally in Ibiza?

Yes, of course, but less every day. There are a lot of imitations of typical products.

Do you mean that handcrafted products have been taken over by large chains?

More than by large chains, by small merchants. Many of them make industrial products to avoid having to go through the steps that handcrafting requires.

So, in a market, how can we differentiate the handcrafted objects from those that aren’t?

On the price. The traditional, handcrafted, Ibizan shoes, espardenyas, cost around 300€ and ones made industrially cost around 30€. Furthermore, the stands that have handcrafted products usually have a different distinctive sign from the Consell Insular de Eivissa, the insular municipality of Ibiza.

What are the dangers that handcrafts are facing?

Young people don’t want to continue learning the craft, tradition and culture.

We need them to get implicated; if not they could one day disappear.

What can be done to support its survival?

Institutions and schools are helping, but to make this last we should make children more aware of the importance it has for our culture.

Currently, where would you place Ibizan handcrafts on a national and international scale?

We are in a good place. We have been to various national and international fairs and people respond well.

They are very surprised to see the amount of work it entails.

Mehr von den kleinen Firmen als von den großen Ketten. Es gibt viele, die die Waren industriell herstellen und die handwerklichen Schritte vermeiden.

Und auf dem Markt? Wie kann man hier Kunsthandwerk von Industrieware unterscheiden?

Am Preis. Handwerklich gefertigte ibizenkische Espardenyas kosten etwa 300 € und industriell gefertigte können etwa 30 € kosten. Außerdem haben kunsthandwerkliche Marktstände normalerweise ein entsprechendes Schild des Consell Insular de Eivissa (Inselrat von Ibiza).
