dumbres de nuestro entorno -brexit, competencia de otros destinos turísticos, ausencia de mayorías políticas claras- y la continuidad de la gestión en precario del Puerto por un conflicto jurídico admirt nistrativo de hace 17 años ajeno a la actividad del Club de Vela. d o d e An Salvo las limitaciones marcadas por la normativa respecto a la gestión, como por ejemplo la puesta en marcha de nuevos proyectos e inversiones de calado, la institución náutica andritxola ha venido manteniendo su actividad de manera eficaz y eficiente, con unas cuentas saneadas y auditadas y asumiendo sus obligaciones fiscales y presupuestarias.

En el ámbito deportivo, los buenos resultados siguen aportando valor a un Club querido, valorado y que cuida a sus deportistas. Otra temporada más, nombres como Violeta del Reino, Sergi Roig o Jana Mestre, entre otros, siguen manteniendo en lo más alto del podio internacional de vela adaptada el nombre del CVPA, en cuya disciplina se alza como un sólido referente. También hay que citar la excelente evolución en vela ligera, con Mario Plomer líder en el campeonato de España de Láser Standard, y en piragua. En crucero, cabe destacar la alta participación en la Liguilla Dos Estaciones, cuyo número de inscritos agotó el cupo.

El seguimiento popular de la bien nutrida agenda anual de actos sociales, creada año tras año a partir de las aportaciones de una buena representación de las familias y socios del CVPA, refleja la sólida adhesión a los valores de nuestra institución, a su gestión y a sus iniciativas. Para muestra, el reportaje fotográfico que cierra nuestra publicación.

Solo queda desear que disfruten de una temporada más navegando por nuestro mar, el que el Club de Vela, desde sus inicios, trabaja para hacer accesible a todos. Sin barreras.

Optimisme serè

Cautiously optimistic

Un any més ens trobem amb els nostres lectors amb un optimisme serè davant les incerteses del nostre entorn -brexit, competència d’altres destins turístics, absència de majories polítiques clares- i la continuïtat de la gestió en precari del Port per un conflicte jurídic administratiu de fa 17 anys aliè a l’activitat del Club de Vela.

Excepte les limitacions marcades per la normativa respecte a la gestió, com per exemple la posta en marxa de nous projectes i les inversions, la institució nàutica andritxola ha mantingut la seva activitat de forma eficaç i eficient, amb uns comptes sanejats i auditats i assumint les seves obligacions fiscals i pressupostàries.

En l’àmbit esportiu, els grans resultats segueixen aportant valor a un Club estimat, valorat i que cuida els seus esportistes. De nou, una altra temporada, noms com els de Violeta del Reino, Sergi Roig, Jana Mestre, entre d’altres, segueixen mantenint a la part més alta del podi internacional el nom del CVPA en vela adaptada, una disciplina que s’alça com un referent. També s’ha de mencionar l’excel·lent evolució de vela lleugera, amb en Mario Plomer com a líder del campionat d’España de Làser Standard, i de piraigua. En la competició de creuer, cal remarcar l’alta participació a les proves de la Liguilla Dos Estaciones del nostre Club, que ha esgotat el cànon d’inscrits.

El seguiment popular de la nodrida agenda anual dels actes socials, creada any rere any a partir de les aportacions d’una bona representació de les famílies i socis del CVPA, mostra una sòlida unió als valors de la nostra institució, a la seva gestió i a les seves iniciatives. Com a reflex, el reportatge fotogràfic que tanca aquesta revista.

Només queda desitjar que les incerteses abans exposades es vagin aclarint i gaudir d’una temporada més navegant pel nostre mar, en el que el Club de Vela, des dels seus inicis, fa feina per fer accessible a tots. Sense barreres.

Once again, we are releasing this new yearly issue cautiously optimistic, in regard to the uncertainty around us - Brexit, competition from other tourist destinations, the absence of majorities in the recently elected Spanish Parliament-, just to name a few.

At home, we are still immersed in an on-going legal and administrative conflict that arose 17 years ago and which has still not been properly clarified.

Except for the limitations established in the regulations concerning management, such as implementing new projects and investments, the nautical institution Andritxola has been managing its business effectively and efficiently, keeping its books in order and duly audited whilst covering its tax obligations and keeping within budget.

In terms of sport, the impressive results continue to confer prestige to a Club that is both loved and held in high esteem by its members. For yet another season names such as Violeta del Reino, Sergi Roig, Jana Mestre, among others, continue to score international podiums in the name of CVPA in Disabled Sailing, with the Club now being a consolidated benchmark in this class. The Club’s dinghy sailing achievements are also worthy of mention, with Mario Plomer leading the Spanish Laser Standard championship along with other notable feats. In yacht racing the high participation in our Club’s Dos Estaciones League must be emphasized, with all available places being covered.

The success of our annual social events year after year, thanks to contributions by many of CVPA’s families and members, reflects the solid commitment to the values of our institution, our management and initiatives. The photographs included at the end of our magazine bear clear witness to this.

It just remains to be said that we wish everyone another season of sailing in the sea around our islands, which CVPA has always worked towards making accessible to everyone. Without barriers.

“El turismo náutico nota menos las crisis que el tradicional de sol y playa” “Es un orgullo para el Club los éxitos de nuestros regatistas en vela, nos seguirán dando satisfacciones muchos años” J.E.I.

Este año se prevén menos turistas por factores como el Brexit, la competencia de Turquía, Egipto, etc., ¿cómo afecta esta coyuntura a los puertos de Mallorca?

El turismo náutico tiene unas características propias; en verano la alta demanda se mantiene constante año tras año, con dificultades incluso para atenderla, y en temporada baja no se comercializa.

Las crisis se notan menos que en el turismo tradicional de sol y playa. Es una industria más estable y con mucho futuro para la comunidad, que además ayuda a desestacionalizar económicamente, porque en invierno los usuarios siguen pagando cuotas, tasas e impuestos y realizan el mantenimiento de sus embarcaciones. ¿En qué situación se encuentra económicamente el Club de Vela? ¿Se han hecho nuevas inversiones durante este año?

La economía de nuestro Club está saneada y auditada. Continuamos abonando el canon, uno de los más altos de Baleares, y asumiendo las obligaciones fiscales y pre-

supuestarias, aunque nuestra situación administrativa no nos permite hacer grandes inversiones, algunas muy necesarias.

Eso sí, el mantenimiento de instalaciones no cesa nunca.

Nuestro Club está para servir a la comunidad y a nuestra comarca de Andratx, a través de la náutica, el deporte, el ocio, con un lema que es nuestra filosofía: “un Club de todos para lograr un mar sin barreras y accesible para todos”.

“Espero que algún día Ports de Balears decida invertir en seguridad en todo el Puerto de Andratx” ¿Alguna novedad sobre la concesión retirada al Club por el Supremo, que ahora gestionan en precario?

Estamos a la espera de la decisión del juez, tras las aportaciones documentales y los peritajes realizados. Nos afecta porque no podemos invertir lo que desearíamos y produce el desasosiego de la incertidumbre, aunque no es la primera

Los grandes resultados deportivos siguen acompañándoles. En vela adaptada, Violeta del Reino campeona de España, Sergi Roig, Jana Mestre, Isaías Iglesias, etcétera. En láser, Mario Plomer…

Es un gran orgullo para nuestro Club los logros en vela adaptada. No creo que exista nada imposible para estos regatistas; su voluntad y entrega nos seguirán dando muchas satisfacciones.

Hemos de continuar desarrollando nuestro proyecto de sostenibilidad, aumento de la capacidad formativa de nuestras escuelas, de la regularidad, de hacer un club participativo para todos. ¿Cómo evoluciona la vela crucero y ligera?

En vela ligera hay que destacar la Copa de España de Mario Plomer en láser estándar, como ha dicho antes, tiene una gran proyección junto a otros regatistas del equipo. Y en crucero, hemos logrado con nuestra Liguilla Dos Estaciones y las regatas de altura el cartel de completo en participación; un éxito en la organización.

El Parque Nacional de Cabrera se ha convertido en el primero del Mediterráneo occidental en hectáreas protegidas tras la reciente ampliación.

Estamos a favor de cualquier figura que proteja nuestro mar, pero dialogando y sopesando los pros y los contras de cada decisión. La pesca de arrastre y otras prácticas que son usadas sin control han hecho mucho más daño que la pesca deportiva.

¿Han registrado incidencias destacables este invierno en el Club?

Ha sido un invierno tranquilo. No hemos tenido por ahora temporales de poniente, que tanto afectan a todo el Puerto de Andratx. Esperemos que algún día Ports invierta en seguridad en toda la ensenada en beneficio de todos; cuando hay temporal, las olas sobrepasan el faro y remueven toda la ensenada, sobre todo a los barcos fondeados.

This year, the tourist forecast is lower; factors like Brexit, competition against Turkey, Egypt, etc. How does all this affect Majorca’s harbours?

Nautical tourism has its own characteristics; in the summer the high demand is continuous, year after year, making it even difficult to attend fully. In low season, it’s not commercialized at all.

The crisis is noticed less than in the traditional beach and sun tourism. It’s a steadier industry and with great future for the community, which additionally helps economically in the lower season, since the users keep paying their quotas, duties and taxes and perform the maintenance of their boats.

¿Cómo evalúa las medidas de protección sobre la posidonia?

El sector náutico tendría que haber sido consultado y escuchado. Proteger queremos todos, pero mientras haya vertidos al mar y otras amenazas a las superficies de posidonia, no es creíble el daño que se quiere atribuir al fondeo de pequeñas embarcaciones. Somos los primeros interesados en que el mar esté limpio. De hecho, invertimos en sistemas de tratamiento de aguas grises, de aceites, de basuras, etc., para las embarcaciones. Debería también estudiarse de dónde proceden los plásticos y otras basuras que llegan a nuestras costas para poder tomar medidas efectivas.

Economically, what’s the situation of the Sailing Club? Were there any new investments made during this year?

Our Club’s economy is sound and audited. We continue to pay the canon, one of the highest in the Balearic Islands and assuming fiscal and budgetary obligations, although our administrative situation doesn’t allow us to make large investments, some of them highly necessary. Obviously, the maintenance of the facilities never stops. Our Club is there to serve the community and our town of Andratx, through nautical, sports, leisure, with a motto that’s our philosophy: A Club for all, to achieve a sea without barriers and accessible to all”.

¿Y la piragua?

Sin extenderme, desde nuestra joven promesa Nicolás Ruiz, que está en el centro de alto rendimiento de Sevilla, hasta las jóvenes promesas, cuyo campeonato de Baleares se celebró en nuestro Club, hasta los veteranos y los palistas de kayak, no dejan de aportar valor al Club cada temporada. ¿Cómo influyen las grandes competiciones internacionales, como la Copa del Rey, en la práctica local de los deportes náuticos?

Influyen mucho, son un acicate; algunos de nuestros jóvenes algún día estarán compitiendo en esas regatas. Una embarcación con el gallardete del Club, el Nadir IV de Pedro Vaquer, compite en ese nivel, y ha habido otras. ¿Las nuevas generaciones se involucran en la náutica como antes o ve cambios de tendencia?

Tanto niños como jóvenes, igual que sus padres, se interesan por la vela y la piragua. Nuestro Club está para facilitar esos deportes. Ya estamos en segundas y terceras generaciones. Ese es nuestro reto.

Do you have any news on the concession withdrawn from the Club by the Supreme Court, which they now manage precariously?

We are waiting for the judge’s decision, after the presented documentation and the experts reports. It affects us since we can’t invest what we’d like and the uncertainly generates unrest, but it isn’t the first time we face this challenge.

The great sports results keep coming to you. In adapted sailing, Violeta del Reino, Spain’s champion, Sergi Roig, Joana Mestre, Isaías Iglesia, etc. In Laser Sailing, Mario Plomer…

The achievements in adapted sailing are of great pride for our Club. I don’t think there’s anything impossible for these sailors; their will and commitment will continue to give us many satisfactions.

We must continue to develop our sustainability project, increase our school’s teaching capacity, regularity, and make a participatory club for all.

How is the cruising and light sailing evolving?

In light sailing, we must highlight Mario Plomer’s Spanish Cup in standard laser. As you said before, he has a great projection along with other sailors of the team. And, in cruising, with our Two Seasons little League and the long-distance regatta, we accomplished the “full” sign in participation, a success for the organization.

Without elaborating, from our young promise Nicolás Ruiz, who’s in the high-performance centre of Seville, to our youngest promises, whose Balearic championship was held in our Club, to the veterans and Kayak canoeists, they all add value to the Club every season.

How do the great international competitions like the King’s Cup (Copa del Rey) influence the local practice of nautical sports?

Very much, they are an incentive; many of our youngsters will be entering those competitions. A boat with the Club’s pennant, Pedro Vaquer’s Nadir IV, competes on that level, between others.

It has been a quiet Winter. So far, we haven’t had any west wind storms that

affect all Port of Andratx. Hopefully someday Ports will invest in security in the whole harbour basin for the benefit of everybody. When there’s a storm, the waves surpass the lighthouse and stir the inlet, specially the anchored boats.

How do you evaluate the posidonia protective measures?

The nautical sector should have been consulted and heard. We all want to protect, but as long as there are discharges to the sea and other threats to the posidonia surface, the harm that’s been assigned to the anchoring of small boats is not credible. We are the first one’s interested in having a clean sea. In fact, we’ve invested in treatment systems for grey waters, oils, trash, etc…

Also, a study should be carried out, to find out where the plastics and other garbage that reaches our coast are coming from, so that effective measures can be taken.

The National Park of Cabrera just turned into the first protected hectares, after the recent enlargement, in the west of the Mediterranean.

We are in favour of anything that protects our sea but we need to be made a part of discussing and evaluating the pros and cons of every decision. Bottom trawling and other practices used without control have harmed much more than recreational fishing.

LIGUILLA DOS ESTACIONES DEL CLUB DE VELA

Victoria de los veleros Just The Job y Cremise Las dos embarcaciones han peleado duro hasta el final de la temporada Catalina Riera.

Just The Job y Cremise han sido los claros vencedores de la XXII edición de la Liguilla Dos Estaciones del Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx (CVPA), el primero en la clase ORC 1/3 y el segundo en la clase ORC 4. Durante toda la temporada, estas dos embarcaciones lideradas por Scott Beattie y Julià Ferragut, respectivamente, se han esforzado para ganarse el título de campeones y hacerse finalmente con el Trofeo Aquiles de Vita, una regata que este año ha cumplido su XXXII aniversario.

“Este triunfo refleja el trabajo que llevamos realizando durante seis meses junto a los siete miembros de la tripulación, que han peleado duro para conseguir este título”, comenta el armador del Just The Job. Una opinión compartida por el patrón del Cremise, quien confiesa que “ganar esta liguilla es un honor. Ha habido mucha competitividad y el resultado ha sido muy satisfactorio”.

Una regata muy social El recorrido de 16 millas náuticas ha estado marcado por unas excelentes condiciones meteorológicas dominadas por vientos de noroeste que han alcanzado los 16 nudos y un mar llano. En todo momento la flota participante, formada por 40 embarcaciones, ha demostrado su valía esforzándose al máximo para ganar este distintivo y consigo la afamada regata social del CVPA. Ambos regatistas coinciden en que “el espíritu de la regata es muy amigable y cercano para todos los participantes”, si bien es cierto que “en el mar vamos a competir y ya cuando finaliza la regata todos volvemos a ser amigos”, comenta Ferragut.

clubes que se animan a participar en sus aguas. Y es que una de las ventajas de navegar por el Port d’Andratx es que “durante toda la temporada te encuentras con condiciones meteorológicas y recorridos muy diferentes”, manifiesta Scott.

valedera se disputó en noviembre, y tanto Just The Job como Cremise ya marcaban su paso hacia la victoria. La jornada contó con brisas de 10 y 12 nudos de componente este, un aura muy diferente a la regata del mes de diciembre, la más dura de toda la temporada. Los restos de la borrasca Flora estuvieron muy presentes a lo largo de las 16 millas de recorrido, pero

las rachas de hasta 25 nudos y un mar de grandes olas no impidieron a Shazam y Cremise hacerse con el primer puesto. La suerte no acompañó tanto al Myc One, primer barco en virar y en enredar su spinnaker, hecho que le obligó a retirarse. El Settebello de Luca Monzani también sufrió el infortunio de perder el sable, pero logró llegar a la meta demostrando una vez más su pericia.

Rivales de gran categoría Las condiciones meteorológicas mejoraron en la tercera regata de la temporada y primera del 2019. El sol dominaba la jornada y las brisas de componente noreste facilitaron a Just The Job y Cremise a volver a posicionarse en el primer puesto.

A pesar de las victorias habituales de las dos embarcaciones, las tripulaciones han tenido que pelear duro durante toda la liguilla. Scott se las ha tenido que ingeniar para vencer a Shazam su “mayor rival”, mientras que Julián confiesa que “hemos trabajado mucho para estar concentrados y vencer a Calm Days y a Calabruix”.

Las ventolinas suaves acompañaron a la flota en las dos regatas disputadas en febrero (una para recuperar la del mes de octubre, que no pudo celebrarse a causa de las malas condiciones meteorológicas).

de 13,4 millas y lo hicieron en un tiempo máximo de dos horas y nueve minutos.

En la sexta prueba, el CVPA volvió a demostrar su labor social con el Trofeo Vela por la ELA, entregado por la Asociación Balear de la Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrófica (ELA Balears). En esta regata la flota contó con una jornada marcada por vientos de suroeste rolando a noroeste que comprendían entre los 8 y 14 nudos. Los afortunados en recibir este benéfico galardón volvieron a ser Just The Job y Cremise.

Otro de los grandes premios del Club y antepenúltima prueba de la Liguilla Dos Estaciones es el Trofeo Presidente, cuyo campo de regatas siempre suele ser el mismo: desde Camp de Mar hasta San Juan de Dios. En este recorrido, que conforma unas 22 millas náuticas, las embarcaciones tuvieron que pelear para

hacerse con un buen puesto. Los vientos de ida eran constantes y la mayoría de los veleros tuvieron que sacar el spinnaker a la ida, aunque la vuelta hacia Camp de Mar fue más dura.

La penúltima prueba de la Liguilla Dos Estaciones es una de las más importantes del Club. Se trata del Trofeo Dos Islas, que este año ha celebrado su XXXVIII edición.

La previsión meteorológica no falló en esta disputada regata en la que la flota realizó un recorrido de 90 millas náuticas, que comprende la ida y vuelta Port d’Andratx – Tagomago. De hecho, fue la edición más rápida de todas las celebradas hasta el momento. Ya desde la línea de salida se impusieron vientos portantes de 15 nudos de intensidad, una brisa que supo aprovechar muy bien el velero Always de Mateo Ferrer, quien no dio opción a sus rivales y alcanzó el primer puesto.

Just The Job and Cremise win the “Dos Estaciones” League Just The Job and Cremise were the clear winners of the 22nd “Dos Estaciones” League hosted by Puerto de Andratx Sailing Club (CVPA). Just The Job in the ORC 1/3 class and Cremise in the ORC 4 class.

These two yachts, captained by Scott Beattie and Julià Ferragut respectively, have fought hard throughout the season to win the championships and claim the Aquiles de Vita Trophy, this year celebrating its 32nd anniversary.

“This victory is the reward for all the hard work that we and the seven crew members have put in over the previous six months, and we have fought hard to win this title”, mentioned the owner of Just The Job. This opinion is shared by the captain of Cremise, who says that “winning this League is an honour. There was a lot of strong competition and the result is very satisfying”.

The 16-nautical-miles course has been marked by the excellent meteorological conditions, with mainly northwest winds that have reached 16 knots and a flat sea.

The 40 competing yachts proved their worth and gave it their all to win this trophy and the prestigious CVPA Social Regatta. Both sailors agreed that “the regatta takes place in a friendly, comradely atmosphere”, although it is no less true

that “at sea we are all rivals, but when the race is over we are all friends again”, says Ferragut.

The “Dos Estaciones” League has been CVPA’s flagship for many years, and has become a top level social competition. So much so in fact that it not only brings in local athletes, but also sailors from other clubs who look forward to taking part in these races. Scott says that one of the advantages of sailing around Port d’Andratx is that “there are very different weather

conditions and routes throughout the whole season”.

The popular Port d’Andratx regatta races kick off in October and end in May, although this year the first race was held in November when Just The Job and Cremise started to pave their way to victory. 10 and 12 knot winds prevailed during the races, completely different conditions to those of December, the most severe of the entire season. The backlashes of Storm Flora made themselves felt over the 16 miles of the race, but the 25 knot gusts and large waves did not prevent Shazam and Cremise from securing the first positions. Myc One did not share their fortune, and was the first yacht to tack and in doing so it’s tangled its spinnaker, forcing them to retire from the race.

Luca Monzani’s luck with the Settebello also ran out when he lost the sail batten, but even so he managed to make it to the finishing line and once again prove his worth.

The weather improved for the third race of the season and the first race in 2019.

Sunny skies ruled over the day, accompanied by light north-easterly winds, allowing Just The Job and Cremise to score first positions. Despite the victories by these two yachts we are now used to, the crews had to fight hard throughout the League.

his main rival Shazam, whereas Julián confesses that “we had to work hard and keep focussed in order to keep Calm Days and Calabruix at bay”.

Light breezes accompanied the yachts in the two regattas held in February (one to make up for the regatta that was cancelled in October due to adverse weather). The League winners continued their winning streak over the 13.4 miles, completing the course in two hours and nine minutes.

Once again CVPA demonstrated its social work at the sixth race with the ELA Sailing Trophy, awarded by the Balearic Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association (ELA Balears). South-easterly swinging to north-easterly winds at between 8 and 12 knots dominated the races during this regatta. The winners of this charity award were once again Just The Job and Cremise.

Another of the Club’s main awards and the second to last race in the “Dos Estaciones” League is the “Trofeo Presidente”, usually held over the same course: from Camp de Mar to San Juan de Dios. This route covers 22 nautical miles with the yachts fighting hard to come out on top.

kers, although the return to Camp de Mar was somewhat harder.

The next to last race in the “Dos Estaciones” League is one of the Club’s major events. It is the “Trofeo Dos Islas” (Two Islands Trophy) this year reaching its 38th edition. The weather forecast was spot on at this tightly fought event where the

yachts sailed a 90 nautical mile route from Port d’Andratx to Tagomago and back.

In fact, it was the fastest of these races to date. Right from the start there were following winds of 15 knots which Mateo Ferrer was able to capitalise on in Always, securing first place and leaving his rivals with absolutely no options.

PATRÓN PROFESIONAL ACOSTUMBRADO A CRUZAR EL ATLÁNTICO

“El día que un patrón crea que lo sabe todo, ese día empieza a cavar su fosa” “A veces pelearte con las personas es peor que con el mar: el mar no te engaña, ya sabes lo que hay” J.E.I.

Tal vez el error del destino, si lo hubo, fue el lugar donde nació, no donde creció. César Enríquez, maestro de patrones, acostumbrado a cruzar el océano Atlántico, nació tierra adentro. En un pueblo minero de León que se ha ido vaciando porque sus vecinos han salido en busca de mejores oportunidades.

A finales de los sesenta, con doce años, su familia abandonó la dureza e incertidumbres del pueblo para viajar a Mallorca a encontrar El Dorado del boom turístico. “Me acuerdo del primer día que vi el mar, fue aquí, en el Arenal. Ahora me siento más mallorquín que nada”.

La siguiente trasluchada de su vida suce-

dió poco antes de cumplir los cincuenta.

“Hasta los 49 años estuve de promotor inmobiliario. Tenía tiempo libre y navegaba mucho, siempre vela. Pero hace catorce años me detectaron un tumor estando en Brasil y eso me hizo replantearme la vida: se acabó, me voy a dedicar al mar”.

Ahora es un experimentado navegante, un lobo de mar, como dicen algunos, reconocido por patrones y aficionados a la vela. Enseña prácticas de navegación para los exámenes de títulos náuticos y chartea su amado Sargantal -un Cigale 16 de aluminio, de 16 metros de eslora- sobre todo para travesías largas. “Hago más navegación de altura porque me gusta más que la de aquí; en verano es muy

estresante, precios caros, demasiados barcos y mucha competencia desleal, mientras que los legales estamos muy fiscalizados y controlados. Cada vez es más complicado”, se queja.

Y así se aficionó a cruzar el Atlántico. “La mentalidad es distinta a la de las islas, podemos estar quince días sin ver a nadie. Estás solo. Sin asistencia técnica ni médica, hay que mirar bien la gente que llevas –unas 4 o 5 personas- porque si te pasa algo nadie te va a ayudar. En el mar siempre pasan cosas, aunque a veces pelearte con las personas es peor que hacerlo con el mar.

El mar no te engaña, ya sabes lo que hay, nunca hay que ir con la guardia baja, y menos costeando, porque en la costa es donde está el peligro”. pág. siguiente >

Si todo va bien, César hace una travesía al año. Pasa el verano en el Mediterráneo y el invierno en el Caribe. “En el Atlántico, a vela, no puedes hacer más que una travesía al año porque manda la meteorología. De junio a noviembre no se puede navegar porque es época de huracanes. Salimos entre octubre y febrero.

Y la vuelta siempre es por el norte, por Azores. Colón ya lo hizo y la ruta sigue siendo la misma. Regreso normalmente en mayo, pero ya sin clientes porque nadie la quiere hacer, es más complicada, más fría”. El año pasado, César regresó a Mallorca desde Panamá, por Cuba, Bahamas, Azores y de allí al Mediterráneo.

“Cuando dejo a la gente en Martinica o Santa Lucía, todavía me quedan mil millas para llegar al fondo del Caribe. Te metes a fondo en el Caribe, muy a fondo, pero después tienes que salir y cuesta salir con el viento”.

La ola mediterránea Entre navegantes, al Mediterráneo le precede la fama. La mala fama. “Lo que más nos preocupa es la ola y la del Mediterráneo es la peor. Muy imprevisible.

No vas a tener suficiente información meteorológica porque son zonas muy influenciadas por la orografía. Sahara, Pirineos, Alpes, el aire, la temperatura del agua…, un mar pequeño afectado por muchos elementos. Vas tranquilamente navegando a sotavento de una isla y de repente te baja una racha de cincuenta nudos. Una tormenta en el Atlántico puedes luchar contra ella o dejarte llevar y tienes tanta cancha para dejarte llevar…

No voy a pelear con el mar porque perderé siempre. Un barco bien marinado aguanta más que un patrón”. “¿Cabo de Hornos? Hemos parado en Hornos, pero el día que estuvimos no era para tener derecho a decir que cruzamos Hornos. Sí por Magallanes (estrecho del extremo sur de Chile), con Sinto Bestard, con quien navegué bastante. O por Finisterre, muchas veces, con mucho viento, allí pega bien, también. Cuando vas por ahí entiendes las dificultades de los antiguos navegantes con aquellos cacharros, aunque eran los mejores de su época”.

Vela (Colombia), el Hornos de Centroamérica. Muy duro. Lo pasé por tercera vez y fue muy duro. Mucha ola del Alisio, grandes, cruzadas, que rebotan…”

“Según donde estés, la electrónica no sirve para nada. En Antártida y Magallanes, el plotter nos decía que estábamos navegando encima de una isla. Imagínate.

Tienes que navegar por estimas, visualmente, muy complicado”.

El relato humano, de una intensidad tranquila, acaba. “En el Atlántico, vas mirando las nubes ante lo que pueda venir, y eso no te engaña, pero se está perdiendo la facultad de observar”. Navegando y aprendiendo día a día. Porque, como dice César Enríquez, “el día que un patrón crea que lo sabe todo, ese día empieza a cavar su fosa”.

Maybe destiny’s mistake, if there ever was one, was his place of birth, not where he grew up. César Martínez, Master of Captains, used to cross the Atlantic Ocean, was born inland. A mining village in León that became empty because its people moved out searching for better opportunities.

In the late sixties, when he was twelve, his family left the roughness and uncertainties of the village and travelled to Majorca, just to find the touristic boom in El Dorado. “I remember the first day I saw the sea, it was right here, in the Arenal.

Now I feel more Majorcan than anything else”. The next turn in is life happened just before he turned fifty. “Until I was 49 years old, I was a real estate agent. I had lots of free time and I navigated a lot, always sailing. However, fourteen years ago, I was diagnosed cancer in Brasil and it made me reconsider my life: that’s it, I’ll dedicate myself to the sea”.

Now he’s an experienced sailor, a seawolf, as some say, recognized by Captains and enthusiasts. He teaches sailing practices for nautical exams and charters his beloved Sargantal – an aluminium 16 Cigale, 16 meters length - mainly for long journeys. “I do more ocean navigation because I like it better that the one here; in the Summer is too stressful, high prices, too many boats and a lot of disloyal competition, whilst the legal ones are constantly being inspected and controlled. It’s getting more complicated every time”, he complains.

That’s how he got into crossing the Atlantic. “The mentality is different from the one on the islands. We can be fifteen days without seeing anybody. You’re all alone. No technical or medical assistance, you must be careful with who you take with you -4 or 5 people- because, if any-

thing happens, there’s nobody to help you. On the sea, everyday things happen, although sometimes fighting with people is worse than fighting the sea; The sea never deceives you, you know what to expect. You can never lower your guard and even less if you are alone coasting, that’s where the danger is”.

If everything goes well, César crosses once a year. Spends the Summer in the Mediterranean and Winter in the Caribbean. “You can’t cross the Atlantic sailing more than once a year because the weather dictates the rules. From June to November, you can’t sail because it’s hurricane season. We sail out between October and February. The return trip is always through North, through Azores.

Columbus did it, and it’s still the same route. I usually return in May, without clients because nobody wants to do it, it’s harder, it’s colder”. Last year, César returned to Majorca from Panama, through Cuba, Bahamas, Azores and from there, to the Mediterranean.

“When I drop people off in Martinique or Santa Lucia, I’m still a thousand miles away to get to the deep Caribbean. You go deep into the Caribbean, really deep, but then you have to get out of it and it’s hard with the wind”.

the worst. Very unpredictable. You don’t have enough meteorological information because these areas are orographically influenced. Sahara, Pyrenees, the Alps, the wind, the water temperature… a small sea affected by many elements.

You’re quietly sailing leeward of an island and suddenly a gust of 50 knots drops on you.

A storm in the Atlantic, you can either fight it or let yourself go, and you have lot of room to let yourself go… I’m not going to fight the sea because I’ll always lose. A well crewed boat is stronger than a Captain. “Cape Horn? We’ve stopped in the Horn, but the day we were there doesn’t entitle us to say that we crossed Horn. We did so through the Magallanes (channel at the far South of Chile) with Sinto Bestard with whom I’ve sailed a lot.

Or through Finisterre, lots of times, it’s very windy there as well. When you go to those places, you understand the dif-

ficulties of the ancient sailors with those old boats, although they were the best at their time”.

“Last year we sailed the Cabo de la Vela (Colombia) and the Horn of Central America. Very hard. I’ve crossed it for the third time and it was very hard. Lots of trade waves, big ones that cross and bounce…”

“Depending on where you are, electronic items are useless. In the Antarctic and Magallanes, the plotter was telling us that we were sailing on top of an island.

Go figure. You need to sail by what you consider, visually, very complicated.

The human storytelling, of a quiet intensity, finishes. “In the Atlantic, you look up to the clouds, for what may come and it doesn’t deceive you, but the ability of observing is being lost”. Sailing and learning, every day. Because, as César Enriquez puts it, “the day a Captain thinks he knows everything, is the day he starts digging his own grave”.

Violeta del Reino: “Ganamos la Copa por pocos centímetros, fue emocionante” El equipo de Vela Adaptada del Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx (CVPA) ha conseguido importantes logros durante esta temporada, siendo uno de ellos la Copa de España de Hansa 303 disputada en Jávea (Alicante) el mes de febrero. Una regata en la que Violeta del Reino se hizo con el título de campeona de España y Sergi Roig con el de subcampeón.

Algunos de los momentos más duros de la competición fueron aquellos en los que prácticamente no había viento, pero las preocupaciones de Violeta iban mucho más allá. “Había algo en mi botavara que no funcionaba y perdía mucha concentración a causa de este problema”.

Esta traba duró los cuatro días del campeonato, pero no impidió que Violeta se hiciera con la victoria absoluta.

Del Reino ganó las pruebas de clase Individual y de Dobles. Su gran aliada es Jana Mestre, quien quedó segunda en la clasificación femenina. La regatista comenta que “con Jana nos compenetramos muy bien. Yo llevaba el timón y ella las velas. En la regata me suelo poner nerviosa, pero Jana me ayuda a controlar mis nervios”. De hecho, Mestre afirma ser “el apoyo mental” de Violeta en el campo de regatas y confiesa que le gusta navegar con ella porque le permite “observar sus trucos y aprender más”.

Por detrás de la regatista femenina se sitúa Sergi Roig, subcampeón de España y que con solo 24 años cuenta con una larga trayectoria profesional. De hecho, Roig confiesa que después de diez años disputando campeonatos como el de la Copa de España “para mí una regata

de este tipo es como estar en casa, en el Port d’Andratx, porque hay menos barcos que en un Mundial o Europeo y prácticamente nos conocemos todos.

El paralímpico manifiesta que con sus compañeros no tiene ningún tipo de rivalidad. “Muchas veces tenemos en cuenta nuestra calificación y si por tema de puntuación tengo que dejar pasar a alguien del Club lo hago, porque a lo mejor se está jugando puntos”.

Los deportistas coinciden en preferir la categoría Individual a la de Dobles, ya que para ellos es mucho más cómodo y fácil a la hora de navegar. “Sientes el barco de otra forma, es más ágil y lo llevas todo a tu manera”, apunta Violeta.

Sergi coincide con Del Reino y añade que competir en Dobles es más complicado porque “las dimensiones de un

Hansa 303 son de unos tres o cuatro metros, y eso provoca que sea más difícil maniobrar”. No obstante, confiesa que las pruebas de Dobles también pueden resultar muy divertidas. “Me gusta compartir barco con mi compañero Isaías Iglesias porque se le nota en la cara que disfruta de la competición. En todo momento está alegre, te ayuda a quitarte los nervios y aunque perdamos mantiene la sonrisa”.

Los regatistas coinciden en que mantener la calma es clave en una competición cias inolvidables. Jana y Violeta recuerdan entre risas uno de los momentos más divertidos de la Copa de España de Hansa 303. “Había tensión con un rival al que le íbamos detrás. Luchábamos para llegar a la meta antes que él. No sabemos qué le pasó, pero de repente se puso de los nervios y nosotras aprovechamos su despiste para adelantarle.

Le ganamos por unos pocos centímetros y fue un final muy emocionante”, manifiesta Violeta.

Tras una intensa jornada de regatas, los deportistas aprovechan para desconectar a su manera.

Violeta despeja la mente “sacando el barco del agua, lavándolo y desmontándolo. Después me quito la ropa mojada, me pongo cómoda y salgo por ahí, porque en medio de la competición no suelo estar muy sociable”. El subcampeón manifiesta que “podemos estar unas cinco horas dentro del mar y eso can-

sa muchísimo. Tras una regata lo mejor que puedes hacer es desconectar con tus amigos, pero en la Copa de España me acuerdo que me sentía cansado, y me fui al hotel a preparar la maleta y a dormir”.

Si en algo coinciden Violeta, Jana y Sergi es que en una regata lo importante es mantener la calma y entender tanto el recorrido como las señales. “Si te equivocas y cometes un error no pasa nada, lo único que tienes que hacer es intentar recuperar la posición”, concluye el subcampeón español de Hansa 303.

Violeta del Reino gana el Campeonato de Europa y Jana el segundo puesto El mes de junio de 2018 fue un mes de logros para los regatistas de Vela Adaptada del CVPA. Violeta del Reino, Jana Mestre, Sergi Roig e Isaías Iglesias se desplazaron hasta Alemania para competir en el Campeonato de Europa de Hansa 303 de Kiel, que se celebró del 20 al 24 del pasado verano.

Los cuatro regatistas competían de forma individual, siendo Violeta del Reino la que obtuvo la victoria absoluta, mientras que Jana se quedó con la segunda

plaza. Ambas deportistas pelearon duro a lo largo de la semana de regatas. De hecho, Mestre, que en un principio lideraba la clasificación femenina, no cedió ante sus rivales y consiguió hacerse con la plata, demostrando una vez más el gran nivel que tienen los regatistas del Club de Andratx.

viento y lluvia, por lo que la salida se tuvo que aplazar hasta las 17:30 horas.

A pesar de la situación, ambas regatistas féminas lograron buenos resultados: Violeta quedó en la 5ª posición de la general y Jana en la 2ª. El último día de regatas las deportistas de la entidad andritxola consiguieron una espectacular remontada que les permitió compartir podio. Por su parte, Sergi Roig e Isaías Iglesias lucharon hasta el día 23, momento en el que se posicionaron en el puesto número 9 y 15 de la general, respectivamente.

Además del buen posicionamiento que los regatistas del Club obtuvieron en el Europeo, cabe destacar también que Violeta del Reino ha seguido sumando logros durante esta temporada. Y es que la deportista alcanzó la tercera plaza en el Campeonato del Mundo de Vela Adaptada celebrado en el lago Michigan (Estados Unidos), que se desarrolló entre el lunes 19 de septiembre y el sábado 22 del mismo mes del año pasado. La prueba fue complicada y muy dura por la falta de viento en la mayoría de sus pruebas, un hecho que no impidió a nuestra regatista formar parte del podio.

Los regatistas del CVPA Jana Mestre, Sergio Roig e Isaías Iglesias participaron también en este mundial, consiguiendo una clasificación de 6, 17 y 31 puntos, respectivamente.

Violeta: “We won the cup by centimetres, it was very thrilling” The Adapted Sailing team of the Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx (CVPA) has achieved a great deal this season including wining the Hansa 303 Spanish Cup (“Copa de España”) held in Jávea (Alicante) in February. A regatta which saw Violeta take the tile of Spanish Champion and Sergi Roig take Runner-up.

Some of the most difficult moments were those where there was practically no wind but Violet’s concerns were others, “Something in my boom wasn’t working and I lost a lot of concentration due to this problem.” This issue persisted during the 4 days of the competition but didn’t prevent Violeta from taking her victory.

Del Reino won the Solo and Doubles tests. Her greatest ally is Jana Mestre, who won second place in the women’s class. Violeta told us “Jana and I work very well together. I handled the rudder and she handled the sails. During regattas I tend to get nervous, but Jana helps me control my nerves. I know the competition isn’t a matter of life and death, but the tension doesn’t help.” Mestre also,

sees herself as Violeta’s ‘mental support’ when it comes to regattas and admits she enjoys sailing with her as it lets her observe her skills and learn from her.

Taking the title of Spanish Runner-up is Sergi Roig, who, at only 24, has already had an extensive career in sailing. In fact, Roig explains that after ten years competing in championships like the Spanish Cup, “A regatta like this is like being at home, in the Port d’Andratx, as there are fewer boats here than at the World Cup or European Cup, we practically all know each other. During the Jávea regatta I just felt calm and willing to compete.”

The Paralympian reveals that he doesn’t have any rivalries with his colleagues.

“We often keep our ranks in mind and if for score reason I need to let someone overtake me, I do, because they may need the extra points,” he explains.

These sportsmen tend to prefer the Solo category to the Doubles since they find it far easier and more comfortable to sail in. “You handle the boat in a different way, it’s more agile and you manage everything your way,” says Violet. Sergi agrees and adds that the Doubles events are more complicated because, “A Hansa 303 is about three to four metres long which makes it harder to manoeuvre.”

However, he accepts that Doubles events

can also be a lot of fun, “I like sailing with my partner Isaías Iglesias because you can see from his face that he enjoys competing. He’s always cheerful, stops you feeling nervous and even if we lose he never loses his smile.”

Jana and Violeta recall, between giggles, one such moment from the Hansa 303 Spanish Cup. “We had a bit of a rivalry with a competitor ahead of us,” explains Violeta, “we were fighting to get to the finish line before him. We’re not sure what happened but, suddenly, he must have gotten nervous and we took advantage of his distraction to overtake him.

Following an intense day of regattas, each sailor takes the opportunity to unwind in their own way. Violeta clears her mind by taking the boat out of the water, cleaning it and taking it apart. “I get out of my wet clothes, get comfortable, grab a bite to eat and then go out because during the competition I don’t tend to be very social,” she says. The runner-up explains “We can be out at sea for up to four or five hours and this can be exhausting. After a regatta the best

The athletes agree that keeping calm is a key in a competition way to unwind is being with your friends, but after the Spanish Cup I remember being so tired that I just went back to the hotel to pack my bags and sleep.”If there’s something Violeta, Jana and Sergi all agree on, it’s that during a regatta it’s important to keep calm and to know both the route and the signals. “It doesn’t matter if you make a mistake,” reassures the Runner-up, “What’s important is that to try to recover your position.”

Violeta del Reino wins the Hansa 303 Championship in Kiel and Jana Mestre claims second place June 2018 was a month full of achievements for the CVPA Parasailing athletes.

Violeta del Reino, Jana Mestre, Sergi Roig and Isaías Iglesias all travelled to Germany to compete in the European Hansa 303 Championship held in Kiel from 20th to 24th June.

The four athletes competed individually with Violeta del Reino claiming overall first position, where as Jana secured second place. Both athletes fought tooth and nail over the four days of regattas.

In fact, Mestre, who was initially leading the women’s standings did not give in to her rivals and managed to secure the silver medal, once again proving the impressive level of our Club’s athletes.

The Championship was full of highs and lows, and on the next to last day the weather made for the hardest sailing conditions, with gusty wind and rain, meaning the start had to be delayed until 17:30.

Despite this, both women finished in

excellent positions: Violeta was 5th in the overall standing and Jana 2nd. The final regatta by the CVPA athletes saw them make a spectacular come-back to share the podium. Sergi Roig and Isaías Iglesias fought hard until the 23rd when they were positioned 9th and 15th respectively in the overall standing.

Apart from the excellent results the Club’s athletes achieved in the European Championship, Violeta del Reino has also reported other successes this season.

She was third in the World Parasailing Championship in Lake Michigan (USA) held between Monday 19th and Saturday 22nd September last year. It was a very hard and complicated event due to the lack of wind in most of the races, however that was no hindrance for her to take to the podium finish.

El grupo Geikei Mallorca se afianza en el Port d’Andratx El restaurante Club de Vela del Port d’Andratx está regentado por Giuliano di Matteo, un italiano que lleva casi veinte años en Mallorca trabajando en la restauración. Este emprendedor dirige con especial cariño otros cuatro establecimientos en Andratx, con un total de 68 empleados. Cada restaurante tiene su propio carácter, tal y como nos cuenta el mismo Giuliano.

“La gastronomía es completamente distinta en cada uno de los establecimientos. El restaurante Rústico ofrece tapas y carne a la brasa. Miramar fusiona la gastronomía italiana con la española.

Club de Vela tiene una cocina gourmet con platos de temporada, la pizzería PaPaMu es un fast food y Giwine, por su parte, es un cóctel-bar de noche”. ¿Cómo ha sido su experiencia de todos estos años en Mallorca?

Llegué a la isla en el año 2000 y desde entonces me he dedicado a la restauración. Tras varios trabajos fundé mi propia empresa con la que he abierto varios restaurantes. En 2017 me fusioné con una empresa Noruega, Kim. Y ahora somos el grupo GEIKEI MALLORCA 2019 S.L. ¿En sus restaurantes, ¿se consume producto local?

La lubina, las gambas, las cigalas y la langosta roja son productos locales. La carne es casi toda nacional, aunque hay algunos platos con carne de Irlanda. Utilizamos también aceite mallorquín en todos los restaurantes.

La bodega de los restaurantes, ¿es mallorquina?

Tenemos vinos mallorquines como Ses Nines, Tianna Bocchoris, Sió, Miquel Gelabert tanto blancos como tintos. También tenemos muchos vinos nacionales. ¿Tiene como clientes miembros del Club de Vela?

Ahora, con el inicio de la temporada, empiezan a venir los socios al restaurante del Club de Vela y están muy contentos. Los domingos vendemos más paella y lubina a la sal.

Geikei Mallorca group gets stronger in the Port of Andratx The restaurant “Club de Vela” at Port d’Andratx is run by Giuliano di Matteo, of Italian origin, who has been almost 20 years in Mallorca working in the restaurant industry. This entrepreneur leads with special charm four more restaurants in Andratx, accounting for a total of 68 employees. Each restaurant has its own character, as Giuliano himself tells us.

I arrived in the island in 2000. Since then I have dedicated to the restaurant business. After several jobs and projects I founded my own company, with which I have opened a few restaurants.

In 2017 I merged with Norwegian company Kim, resulting in the creation of GEIKEI MALLORCA 2019 S.L. ¿Is local produce served in your restaurants?

Sea bass, prawns, scampi and red lobster are all local products.

Most of the meat we serve comes from Spain, although we offer some dishes which include Irish meat. We use oil from Mallorca in all of our restaurants. ¿What about the cellar? Do you serve Mallorca wines?

We have Mallorca wines such us Ses Nines, Tianna Bocchoris, Sió and Miquel Gelabert, both red and white. We also offer a wide selection of Spanish wines. ¿Are the members of the Port d’Andratx Sailing Club your customers?

Now that the summer season is starting, we have members coming to the Club de Vela restaurant and they are all very happy with us. On Sundays our most demanded dishes are paella and sea bass in a salt crust.

Regatistas de vela ligera, pasión y sacrificios Plomer: “Si quieres dedicarte cien por cien a la vela has de sacrificar tu vida personal” C. R.

Si hay algo de lo que puede presumir el Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx (CVPA) es de sus deportistas de élite. Uno de los más destacados de esta temporada en vela ligera ha sido Mario Plomer, quien con tan solo 20 años se ha hecho con el primer puesto del Campeonato de España absoluto de Láser Standar disputado en Valencia.

Los resultados hablan por sí mismos, pero Mario considera que esta victoria va mucho más allá, pues es una clara muestra de su empeño y esfuerzo. “En prácticamente un 90% de las pruebas te llevas palos, pero cuando ganas te sientes recompensado y sientes que todo el trabajo que has hecho no ha sido en vano”. Y es que “detrás de la competición hay muchísimo más. La gente solo ve tu victoria, pero obtener una buena posición requiere trabajo, como por ejemplo entrenar cinco días a la semana”, manifiesta el regatista, quien combina esta pasión con los estudios.

Este deporte es pura vocación y a veces es necesario elegir. “Si quieres dedicarte al cien por cien a la vela debes sacrificar buena parte de tu vida personal”, confiesa Elvira Martínez, antigua subcampeona cadete del CVPA, quien tuvo que aparcar este deporte para poder cursar una carrera universitaria. “Ahora soy bióloga y los fines de semana monitora del Club”, concluye orgullosa.

Lo mismo le ocurrió a Alejandro Solera, otro antiguo regatista de la entidad andritxola y uno de los actuales instructores de vela. “Me fui a Madrid a estudiar, luego estuve un año en Inglaterra y cuando volví tuve la suerte de empezar a trabajar en el Club. La vela, más que un hobby es un estilo de vida, pero llega un momento en el que tienes que hacer balance: ¿vale la pena dejar atrás cosas de tu vida personal para poder competir?”

junto Macià Alemany, otro de los campeones veteranos del Club, que también tuvo que replantearse la situación en la que la Vela lo ponía y se vio obligado a dejar de competir porque “la presión” pudo con él.

A pesar del sacrificio que supone este deporte, los cuatro regatistas se consideran personas afortunadas, no sólo por poder dedicarse a lo que les gusta, sino también por las aventuras que viven cada vez que salen a navegar. “Es cierto que en el mar debes ir con cuidado, sobre todo cuando empiezas en la vela. Después llega un momento en el que piensas que lo que tenga que pasar pasará”, señala Elvira al recordar una regata en la que había 25

nudos de viento, se cayó al mar y tuvo que esperar unos 10 minutos en el agua hasta que fue rescatada.

A este nivel de competición quien más quien menos tiene experiencias que contar, que, afortunadamente, la mayoría quedan en anécdotas. “En una regata mi compañero se cayó al mar, yo estaba en la proa con todo el viento que me daba en la cara y de repente me di cuenta de que un barco le había pasado por encima. Tuve que ir a ayudarle y después se lo llevaron al hospital. Fue un momento muy duro. No sé ni cómo sigue vivo”, explica Mario, quien también recuerda un temporal de Suecia con “niebla, viento de 35 nudos, rayos y lluvia. Tuvimos que

volcar el barco para que no nos cayera un rayo encima”.

Las vivencias que te proporciona este deporte son únicas, pero también ayuda a enriquecerte a nivel personal ya que requiere cierto grado de concentración.

“En el mar no hay amigos. En una competición tienes que estar pendiente de todo: del agua, del cielo, del viento y de tus rivales. Son muchos factores a tener en cuenta”, apunta Macià.

A pesar de los hándicaps que pueda tener la vela, Mario, Alejandro, Elvira y Macià consideran que este deporte es una parte fundamental de su vida.

Alemany se dedica a su vocación y repara velas para una importante empresa náutica y para Martínez es una forma de “desconectar y divertirse”. Plomer confiesa que si le quitasen la vela se “sentiría muy descolocado” y Solera afirma rotundamente: “la vela es mi vida”.

Laser Standard Mario Plomer, regatista todoterreno El regatista del CVPA, Mario Plomer, se hizo con el galardón en el Campeonato de España de Láser Standard que se disputó en Torrevieja (Valencia) durante los días 8, 9 y 10 de febrero. Con esta victoria, el deportista se colocó primero en el ranking nacional de la Clase Olímpica Láser Standard, con muchas posibilidades para clasificarse para el Mundial de Japón y el Europeo de Portugal del 2019.

En la regata del Trofeo Presidente –

Campeonato de Baleares de Láser 4.7 y Standard celebrado entre el 25 y 27 de enero en Can Pastilla, Plomer siguió demostrando su valía amarrándose en el tercer puesto. Asimismo, el joven regatista participó en el Campeonato de Europa de Láser Standard sub 21 celebrado en Suecia el mes de agosto de 2018. A pesar de ser su primera temporada en esta categoría, Plomer superó con éxito los objetivos marcados y consiguió hacerse con el décimo puesto.

Laser Radial Victoria de Marcos Plomer en la regata Pro-Rigging de la Bahía de Palma Marcos Plomer ganó la regata Pro-Rigging de la Bahía de Palma en la clase de Láser Radial disputada en febrero del

2019. El deportista del CVPA también aprovechó la regata de Láser Radial organizada por el Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa para clasificarse para el equipo balear en dos competiciones de gran importancia: el Campeonato de España de Láser Radial en Canarias y la Copa de España Radial en Masnou.

Temporada de podios para Aina Bauzá Durante esta temporada Aina Bauzá no ha parado de sumar logros. En la regata del Trofeu Illes Balears de la clase Radial, celebrada en octubre de 2018 en Pollença, Bauzá consiguió el segundo puesto. Con esta prueba, la deportista logró clasificarse para el Campeonato de España de Las Palmas disputado el mes de diciembre.

Optimist XXVIII Memorial Guillermo Marroig de Optimist El mes de febrero, unas 80 embarcaciones se bañaron en las aguas de la bahía del Port d’Andratx para participar en la regata del XXVIII Memorial Guillermo Marroig de Optimist. Las condiciones meteorológicas fueron variables y estuvieron marcadas por la falta de viento, aunque el regatista del Club Tim Lubat no tuvo problema en hacerse con la primera posición de la general y la de Sub 13. Eduardo Light quedó segundo en la general y también en Sub 13, mientras que Hugo Roselló se hizo con la segunda posición en Sub 15.

Light sailing, a pastime of passion and sacrifices If there is something that “Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx” (CVPA) can be proud about, it is its elite sportsmen and women. One of the most outstanding this season in dinghy sailing is Mario Plomer, who at just 20 years old came first in the absolute category at the Spanish Laser Standard Championship held in Valencia.

The results speak for themselves, but Mario believes that this win goes beyond that, since it is a clear reward for his endeavour and effort. “In about 90% of races something goes wrong, but when you do win, you feel rewarded and that all the work you have put in has not been in vain”. The truth is that “behind every competition there is a lot more

take her degree. “Now I am a biologist and Club monitor on the weekends”, she says proudly.

Alejandro Solera, another former racer at the Andratx club and now one of the sailing instructors, found himself in a similar position. “I went to Madrid to study, then I spent a year in England, and when I came back I was fortunate enough to get a job at the Club. For me, sailing is more than a hobby, it is a lifestyle, but there comes a time when you have to choose: Is it worth sacrificing your personal life so that you can compete?” This was Solera’s dilemma in 2014 when he was training for the Olympic Games in the 470 class with Macià Alemany, another of the Club’s former champions who also had to weigh up his situation with regards to sailing and was forced to give up competing because he could not cope with the pressure.

At this level of competition everyone has a story to tell, and fortunately most of them are just that - stories. “In one regatta, my partner fell overboard, I was at the prow with the wind hammering into my face and I suddenly realised that another boat had sailed over him.

I had to turn back to help him and he was then rushed off to hospital. I was very worried. I really don’t know how he survived”, Mario says, who also remembers a storm in Sweden with “fog, 35 knot wind, lightning and rain. We had to intentionally capsize the boat over to avoid lightning strikes”.

The experiences in this sport are unique, but they are also enriching at a personal level and require a high level of concentration. “There are no friends at sea. It is a competition where you have to be aware of everything: the water, sky, wind

than meets the eye. People only see the winner, but finishing in a good position requires a lot of hard work, such as training five days a week”, claims Mario, who combines his passion for this sport with his studies.

This sport is purely vocational, and sometimes you have to make a choice.

“If you want to spend all your life sailing, you have to give up part of your personal life”, confesses Elvira Martínez, former runner-up in the cadet category with CVPA, who had to give up sailing to

Alemany’s vocation has become his job, and he repairs sails for a major nautical company, whereas for Martínez it is her way of “switching off and having fun”.

Plomer says that if it weren’t for sailing, “he would feel out of place” whereas Solera outrightly claims: “sailing is my life”.

Laser Standard Mario Plomer, an all-round athlete Mario Plomer, one of CVPA’s sailors won the Spanish Laser Standard Championship in Torrevieja (Valencia) held over the 8th, 9th and 10th of February. With this victory, he became first in the national ranking in the Laser Standard Olympic Class, with a good chance of qualifying for the World Championship in Japan and the European Championship in Portugal in 2019.

In the “Trofeo Presidente - Laser 4.7 and Laser Standard” Balearic Islands Championship, held between 25th and 27th of January at Can Pastilla, Plomer continued to prove his worth by securing third place. Optimist 28th Guillermo Marroig de Optimist Memorial Some 80 dinghies sailed in the Port d’Andratx bay in February to take part in the 28th Guillermo Marroig de Optimist Memorial. The event took place under varying weather conditions and was marked by a lack of wind, although the Club’s member Tim Lubat had no problem securing first position in the overall and Under 13 classes. Eduardo Light came second in the overall class and also in the Under 13 class, whereas Hugo Roselló came second in the Under 15 class.

Afianzando la cantera de piraguistas del Club • La escuela de piragua acoge deportistas en las categorías desde benjamines hasta júnior • Esther Corral empezó con nueve años y ahora compite en sénior Margalida Castell

La escuela de piragua del Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx (CVPA) sigue formando palistas temporada tras temporada.

Como un trabajo de hormiga, constante y a veces imperceptible, los alumnos de piragua progresan en la práctica de un deporte que no deja a nadie indiferente, a la vez que gozan con los compañeros y entrenadores de su actividad física favorita. Los logros se notan en los podios que los palistas consiguen en las diferentes competiciones, donde se ven reflejadas sus jornadas de entrenamiento semanales. Actualmente la escuela acoge piragüistas de ocho a dieciocho años, que compiten en las diferentes categorías comprendidas entre benjamines y júnior. Además, también tienen séniors y veteranos, demostrando así el empeño del Club en cuidar a todos sus deportistas.

Buena prueba de ello es el caso de Esther Corral, que empezó en este deporte con nueve años y actualmente compite en la categoría sénior por primera vez, tras cumplir diecinueve. Toda su trayectoria se liga al CVPA, gracias al cual ha conseguido sus mejores logros. “Hace cuatro años quedé primera de España en K-1 500, y hace dos temporadas encabecé el podio en la prueba de 200, también de K-1”. Corral rememora cuando se inició en este deporte, después de una visita con su colegio le ofrecieron probar el piragüismo: “Me gustó mucho y ya me quedé en el Club”. Ha participado en tantas competiciones a lo largo de estos años que parece imposible recordar todos los resultados, pero Corral remarca que tiene en mente “la mayoría” de sus mejores posiciones.

apunta que dependiendo de la temporada suman más o menos podios ya que “los piragüistas van subiendo de categoría con el paso de los años, además algunos son nuevas incorporaciones y otros dejan de entrenar por diversos motivos”.

Para la escuela es importante tener una buena cantera, por eso durante julio y agosto se trabaja para crear una amplia base de deportistas benjamines y alevines. “Es muy común que en el transcurso de la Escuela de Mar, que se lleva a cabo durante los meses de verano, haya niños y niñas interesados en la actividad de piragua, por eso el equipo de monitores está al tanto y nos manda a los que más les gusta este deporte para que prueben con nosotros y para hacer perfeccionamiento”, sentencia el entrenador.

categorías escolares, y explica que no tienen previsto crecer mucho más y que sobre todo dan importancia a “la franja de benjamines a júnior”.

En el CVPA se celebró la Copa Balear de Promoción, hay cuatro cada año de este tipo y las organizan diferentes clubs de las islas. En Andratx se llevó a cabo el pasado mes de febrero de 2019, y acudieron unos 120 palistas acompañados de padres y familiares. Este evento de-

portivo sirve también para promocionar este deporte, ya que asisten amigos de los competidores y algunos de ellos muestran interés por el piragüismo. Este verano está previsto llevar a cabo varios días de puertas abiertas para los amigos de los palistas más jóvenes, para animar así a todo el mundo a participar.

El CVPA mima mucho a todos sus piragüistas, y facilita la participación de los interesados haciéndose cargo de los ma-

teriales, desplazamientos, equipamiento, ropa, y demás gastos que puedan surgir a los palistas del Club. Es por eso que se forma una gran familia de piragua. Corral remarca que lo que más le gusta del piragüismo es que es un deporte diferente a los demás porque “aunque compites de forma individual, los entrenamientos los haces con los compañeros” y eso la hace sentir parte de un grupo que se encuentra muy unido.

Nicolau Ruiz: “Mi objetivo es llegar a participar en unas olimpiadas” El palista del CVPA entrena en el centro de alto rendimiento de Sevilla, siendo una de las jóvenes promesas del Club con tan solo 18 años Uno de los piragüistas más destacados del momento y con mayor proyección del Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx es Nicolau Ruiz. Cuando tenía 11 años este deportista realizó un cursillo de vela y otro de piragua en el Club, y enseguida se decidió por la práctica de esta segunda disciplina.

Después de entrenarse durante años en la entidad andritxola, el pasado mes de octubre de 2018 pasó a formar parte del equipo nacional en el centro de alto rendimiento de Sevilla.

Sus cualidades innatas y su esfuerzo en mejorar día a día en los entrenamientos le han llevado a conseguir grandes gestas, colocándose en la novena posición del Campeonato de Europa Júnior, disputado en Italia en julio de 2018. Ruiz tiene claro que este es su mejor logro hasta el momento, y José Luís, su entrenador, admite que “es la mejor posición alcanzada en toda la historia de la escuela de piragua”.

Nicolau vive en la localidad andaluza y compagina sus estudios de INEF con los entrenamientos en el centro de alto rendimiento, aunque reconoce que “después de entrenar unas 24 horas a la semana descansando solamente los domingos me queda poco tiempo para ir a clase”. Relata que igualmente puede presentarse a los exámenes finales por ser deportista de alto rendimiento.

Cara al futuro se plantea cambiar de carrera y estudiar biología, y deportivamente hablando aspira a “llegar

a participar en unas olimpiadas” aunque sabe que le queda “mucho tiempo por delante y todavía mucho trabajo por hacer”. Sus esfuerzos han sido reconocidos también externamente con el Premio Timón de Piragüismo de 2018 de Gaceta Náutica, un importante galardón que “han recibido prestigiosos deportistas en otras ocasiones, por eso me hizo mucha ilusión”.

held in Italy in July 2018. He is convinced this is his best achievement so far, and José Luís, his coach, admits that “it is the best position anyone has ever achieved in the history of this kayaking club”.

Nicolau now lives in Seville and combines his Physical Education studies with his training at the high-performance centre, although he admits that “after training around 24 hours a week and only resting on Sundays, I don’t have much time to go to lectures”. He says that even so he can sit his final exams as a high-performance sports person.

With a view to the future he is considering changing his studies to take a degree in biology, and in terms of sport “to compete in the Olympic Games”, although he is aware that “there is plenty of time and a lot of work to do”. His efforts have also been recognised externally, with the “Timón de Piragüismo” award in 2018 by “Gaceta Náutica”, a prestigious award that “renowned sports people have been awarded on other occasions, so it is something I am very proud of”.

Expanding the quarry of paddlers Club Club de Vela del Puerto de Andratx (CVPA) kayak club continues to train kayakers year after year. Working tirelessly like ants, the young kayakers make progress in a sport that nobody is indifferent to, whilst at the same time having great fun with their colleagues and coaches when training in their favourite sport.

Their achievements are rewarded on the podiums at the different competitions they take part in - the compensation for their hard work every week. The school currently has kayakers aged from eight to eighteen years old, who compete in the different categories for their respective ages. The club also has senior and veteran members, proving the Club’s commitment to all its sports men and women.

Esther Corral is just one example of this commitment. She joined the club when she was nine years old and is now competing in her first year in the senior category, following her nineteenth birthday. She has spent her entire sporting career with CVPA thanks to whom she has achieved some excellent results. “I came first in Spain in K-1 500 four years ago, and two seasons ago I scored a podium in the 200, also in a K-1”. Corral recalls when she started this sport, after a school trip visit and tried kayaking: “I just loved it,

and immediately joined the Club”. She has taken part in so many competitions over the years it is impossible to remember all the results, but Corral says that she remembers “most” of her best results.

Victories are always something to celebrate, although the coach, José Luís Seguí, points out that the number of podiums depends on the seasons, since the “kayakers move up through the categories over the years, while new members join the Club and others leave it for

different reasons”. It is important for the Club to have a good pool of young boys and girls, which is why they work through the months of July and August to bring in a large number of younger kayakers.

“During the ‘Escuela de Mar’ held over the summer months, boys and girls interested in kayaking often come and the team of

monitors keep an eye on them and send us those who most like this sport so they can try out with us and improve their kayaking”, the coach goes on to say. There are usually between seventeen and twenty-five pupils in the different school-age categories. He also mentioned that they do not plan on growing much more, and are placing emphasis on the importance of the “beginners to junior” age groups.

The “Copa Balear de Promoción” was held at CVPA, of which there are four each year, organised by the different clubs on the islands. It was held last February with attendance by 120 kayakers accompanied by their parents and relatives. This sporting event also helps to promote the sport, with attendance by competitors’ friends, some of whom are interested in starting off in kayaking. Several “open-doors” days have been scheduled this summer for friends of our younger kayakers, with the aim of encouraging everybody to take part.

CVPA nurtures its kayakers, making it easier for people to start in this sport by providing the material, travel, equipment, clothing and covering other expenses Club members have to face. This is how we have become a big family of kayakers.

Corral points out that what she most likes about kayaking is that it is different from other sports because “although you compete individually, you train with the other team members” and that makes you feel you belong to a very tightly knit group.

Algunos lo adoran y lo convierten en su lugar ideal para practicar deportes acuáticos, otros lo usan durante sus temporadas de vacaciones como ocio y desconexión y otros hacen del mar su oficio. Éste es el caso de José Fresquet Mercant, patrón mayor de la Cofradía de Pescadores del Port d’Andratx.

Desde muy pequeño su vida ha estado ligada al mar, y entre sus recuerdos guarda el capítulo de cómo embarcó por primera vez con su padre, cuando apenas tenía 13 años. “Mi madre tenía un supermercado y yo no quería trabajar ahí, así que decidí hacerme a la mar con mi padre, que era pescador”. Actualmente la pesca es su

oficio, aunque afirma que no le aporta demasiados beneficios. Entre risas nostálgicas, comenta que hoy en día “la vida de los pescadores consiste en pagar y pagar” y que “cada vez hay más trabas para practicar este oficio, por eso actualmente hay menos gente que se dedica a la pesca. Además, los jóvenes prefieren un sueldo fijo mensual y en el mar se gana dependiendo de la temporada y de las capturas”.

Inmerso en sus recuerdos, rememora el momento en que se sacó el título de patrón, antes de finalizar la mili, a sus 20 años. Los tiempos cambian para todos, y en el mar las cosas ya no son como antes.

Fresquet apunta que “ahora se necesitan cumplir muchos más requisitos para embarcar, tienes que tener cursos de prime-

ros auxilios y un mes de clases, por eso la gente ajena al mar que se interesa por subir a un pesquero abandona la idea antes de empezar”. El patrón mayor ve que se dan demasiadas incongruencias a la hora de realizar su trabajo y asevera que “no siempre sabes por qué te van a multar”.

Así pues relata que “yo no estoy autorizado para pescar atunes, y si viene uno enredado entre mis capturas tendría que devolverlo al mar para evitar una multa, pero si está muerto no puedo soltarlo porque es un descarte, y por culpa de la contaminación del anisakis podría ser peligroso”. De este modo relata un sinfín de leyes y restricciones a las que se ven abocados durante su día a día al realizar su trabajo. A pesar de todo, comenta que este es el modo de vida que ha elegido y que está contento porque todos son “una gran familia, nosotros hemos nacido en el mar y eso es lo que nos gusta”. sigue en la pág. 42 >

Relata que la temporada de verano es la mejor para ellos, ya que hay muchos más peces y las condiciones climáticas son las mejores para realizar su oficio. “Aquí la reina de las capturas es la gamba roja, la mejor cotizada y la que más valorada está. Es en verano cuando sube a desovar y se convierte en la época ideal para su pesca”. En la zona también se sacan cigalas y langostas, que junto al marisco en general es lo que más aprecian los restaurantes a la hora de comprar producto fresco. “Lo que pescamos en el Port d’Andratx sería suficiente para abastecer el pueblo y el puerto enteros, por eso lo primero que hacemos después de un día de pesca es ir a la lonja a vender nuestro pescado, lo que no se vende lo llevamos a Palma y lo sacamos a subasta”. La ley de la oferta y la demanda también funciona en el mar, por eso el patrón recalca que “aquí las matemáticas no son exactas, el producto que sacas unos días valdrá más y otros menos”.

Some love it and turn it into their ideal place to practice water sports; others make use of it during their holidays for entertainment and to disconnect, and there are those who make a living from the sea. This is the case of José Fresquet Mercant, Lead Skipper of the Fisherman’s Guild of the Port d’Andratx.

José has felt bound to the sea since he was very young and one of his first memories is when he first embarked on a fishing trip with his father at the age of 13. “My Mother ran a supermarket, but I didn’t want to work there, so I decided to take to the sea with my father who was a fisherman,” he explains.

At present, fishing is Jose’s job although he admits that this does not bring enough profit. Between nostalgic chuck-

les he explains that, “Nowadays, the life of a fisherman could be described as never-ending expenses. There are increasingly more and more obstacles to working in this profession, this is the reason that currently there are fewer people working in the fishing industry.

Additionally, the younger generation prefer a fixed monthly income whereas at sea you earn depending on the season and your catch.”

Diving into his memories, José recalls the moment he obtained the rank of Skipper, before completing his military service, at the age of 20. Times change for everyone and at sea things are no longer the same as they were. Fresquet points out that “now there are far more obligations to fulfil before you can work at sea. You need to take a first aid course and a month of classes and, for this reason, people from outside the industry who may be interested in boarding a fishing boat abandon the idea before even starting.”

The Lead Skipper notes that there are too many inconsistencies when it comes to how he practices his trade and asserts that, “You don’t always know why you will be fined.” As an example he says, “I’m not authorized to fish for tuna, so if one becomes caught in my nets I would have to release it to avoid a fine, but if it is already dead I can’t throw it back as this

could cause dangerous anisakis contamination.” In this way he highlights an endless cycle of laws and restrictions which the industry is compelled to comply with in its day-to-day operations.

Despite all of this, José states that’s that this is the life he has chosen and that he remains happy, “we’re one big family, we belong to the sea and this is what we love.”

He describes how the summer season is the best for them as there are far more fish and weather conditions are better for fishing, “here the queen of the catch is the red shrimp as it has the highest price and value. In Summer they swim to the surface to spawn so this is the ideal time to fish for them.” Langoustines and rock lobsters are also caught in this region, which along with shellfish in general, are the most sought after by restaurants when they buy fresh seafood.

“What we catch in the Port d’Andratx is enough to supply both the town and the port, so the first thing we do after a day of fishing is to sell what we’ve caught at the local fish market.

Whatever we can’t sell, we then take to Palma to sell at auction,” he says. The rule of supply and demand also applies to the sea and so the Skipper stresses that “the maths on this are not exact. The value of what you catch can vary from one day to the next.”

Trabajando para alargar la vida de las velas El sol y el flameo son los peores enemigos del velamen C.R.

Las velas son uno de los elementos fundamentales del barco, por lo que se debe prestar especial atención a su cuidado. El sol y el flameo son algunos de los factores que más contribuyen al deterioro de este aparejo, pero existen medidas que pueden ayudar a alargar su utilidad.

Si bien es cierto que el desgaste viene motivado por el nivel de actividad de la propia embarcación, como puede ser la frecuencia y las condiciones en las que sale a navegar, “cubrir la vela con una funda o con un calcetín la protegerá de los rayos”, comenta el gerente de la empresa Velas J. Matheu, Teo Mateu, quien apunta que “la primera envoltura es más práctica para las embarcaciones de recreo o crucero, mientras que la segunda suele utilizarse en los barcos de regatas”.

Otro de sus mayores enemigos es el flameo. “Cuando una vela flamea contribuimos a su envejecimiento. Es cierto que es inevitable que se mueva un poco, pero debemos evitar los flameos innecesarios”, señala Teo.

“Sabemos que la vela empieza a envejecer cuando ésta se deforma, crea una especie de bolsa que tiene tendencia a ir hacia atrás, el color se vuelve más amarillento y en las costuras se producen cortes”, comenta el gerente.

Las velas tienen memoria y el mal uso de ellas contribuye a un deterioro prematuro, aunque existen materiales más sólidos que otros. “El dacrón (fabricado con poliéster) es un componente que resiste bien. Es lo más económico, lo menos delicado y lo que más dura”,

manifiesta Teo quien confiesa que las velas de este tipo “pueden llegar a durar hasta 15 años en los barcos de recreo y 5 en los de chárter”. Aunque para las embarcaciones de regatas lo mejor es el laminado o membrana “es muy delicado, se deforma menos, pero también es cierto que a los tres años empieza a deteriorarse”, indica Teo. No obstante, el gerente apunta que este tipo de embarcaciones también pueden optar por las membranas filmless (fabricado sin film y más ligero) “tienen más durabilidad que las convencionales y es la más sofisticada que actualmente existe en el mercado”.

“The Dracon (textile polyester) is a very resistant component. It’s the most affordable, the less delicate and the one that lasts the longest”, says Teo who confesses that sails of this type “can last up to 15 years in recreational boats and 5 years in charter boats”.

For regatta boats, the best is laminate or membrane sail “it’s very delicate, it deforms less, but it’s also true that at the age of 3 it begins to deteriorate”, according to Teo. However, the manager points out that this type of craft can also opt to filmless membranes (no film and lighter) “they have more durability than the conventional ones and is the most sophisticated currently existing in the market”.

"The Club has created many jobs in Andratx" The seniors recall some anecdotes in the past history of CVPA The Sailing Club at Puerto de Andratx was built step by step since its foundation, in 1968, by means of an evolutive process whitnessed by some of its most senior employees. Such is the case of Margarita Riera or Luis Coll, both having experienced a relationship with the club that lasts for 42 years. Luis is retired already but for long years he was the petate officer, while Margarita is still the secretary of the administration area, this means many years and experiences lived as a part of the history of CVPA. The club started to operate with just a few pontoons situated close to the current offices building, and a small office. “By the time I was hired, in 1976, everything was built, we had an office and a meeting hall where the toilets are located nowadays”, says Margarita Riera. Luis Coll tells us that “time ago, there was a storage room that was used to keep the material used for canoeing and sailing. It also served as a small administration office . We even shared that office with the Guar-

dia Civil that had control over the boats on arrival to the Port”.

The harbor was built in the best area of the bay, providing shelter for the boats and suitable for the sea bed to be dragged, as at the beginning there was a natural lime that was removed little by little”, says Luis. In fact, thanks to that operation, the draught of the harbor has passed from a range of 0,5 to 2 meters, to the actual 3 to 4,20 meters, allowing the entrance to boats with larger overall length and underbody (draught).

The former petate officer still recalls that “in the beginning, just a few boats spent the night here, even in summer. It was usual to have llaüts from Palma that came to spend the weekend as well as those that headed for Ibiza, as this has always been a strategic port that provided shelter for them. Even if they wanted to do the tour of the island, they ended up here. But they preferred to stay at anchor in the bay in order to avoid paying for the docking, and even if there were buoyancy

signals, they sometimes went overconfident and got stuck. “We had to reach them on a small boat, and get them out by means of ropes. And, since they did this in winter too, every year there were 2 or 3 boats anchored in the bay that ended up crashing against the rocks during a storm”.

Nowadays, thanks to new technologies, the procedure to make a reservation for a docking spot for visiting boats is really easy. “During the low season, the boats can come even without a reservation, but during summertime, we receive reservations via Internet and we’re always fully booked. We keep the docking reserved until 6 p.m. and, if the boat doesn’t show, they lose it and we offer it to another boat that asks for it”, says Margarita Riera. Given the high demand, the club establishes a limit of 7 days in high season (from June to September, but mainly July and August) for the stay of visiting boats, unless there is some incidence with the boat that makes it necessary to extend such a period.

El pasado 1 de febrero se aprobó la ampliación del ‘Parc Nacional Maritimoterrestre de l’arxipèlag de Cabrera’, cuyos límites se han expandido al pasar de 10.021 hectáreas a las actuales 90.794 (89.478 marinas y 1.316 terrestres), convirtiéndose así en el parque nacional marítimo más grande de todo el Mediterráneo occidental.

Se trata de uno de los puntos más importantes en la ruta migratoria de aves, ya que más de 150 especies diferentes transitan por el parque, tanto en sus trayectos otoñales como estivales. Al mismo tiempo, su fondo marino constituye un reducto importante de praderas de posidonia, especie endémica del mar Mediterráneo. Con esta ampliación se han visto protegidos los bancos de coral profundos que hasta ahora no lo estaban, además de las áreas pelágicas de paso, reproducción o presencia de peces migratorios de gran tamaño y cetáceos.

Varias organizaciones ecologistas han estado trabajando durante más de una década para que se llevara a cabo esta ampliación, después de diversos estudios que concluyeron con la necesidad

de proteger los fondos marinos del parque. Por su parte, el Gobierno ha ido retrasando esta iniciativa al topar con la oposición de los pescadores, mayoritariamente andaluces y murcianos, que remarcaban ser ignorados a pesar de ser una medida que les afectaba directamente. El parque tiene una zona exclusiva que protege la pesca tradicional, y se permite la pesca con palangre a pescadores de Almería y Murcia hasta que se apruebe la ley de gestión a finales de este año 2019. La pesca de arrastre se ha prohibido por completo.

La cocina popular mallorquina se sirve de los mejores ingredientes locales de temporada para elaborar los platos veraniegos más característicos de la isla.

El chef Toni Pinya, experto en la materia y gran conocedor de la tierra, sostiene que “el mundo rural tiene una presencia reducida en la isla” y que en verano “la producción agrícola en Mallorca queda mermada a las verduras y hortalizas más comunes como son las judías, tomates, calabacines, berenjenas, pimiento verde…”. Pero con la sencillez de ingredientes disponibles se puede hacer una cocina de la que sentirse orgullosos.

Según apunta Pinya, “los mallorquines estamos avergonzados de enseñar lo que tenemos porque estamos demasiado

acostumbrados a ello”, y afirma que “se puede buscar una cocina que no es la de siempre añadiendo diferentes ingredientes de temporada”.

El mediático cocinero defiende que las legumbres como “garbanzos o lentejas se tendrían que valorar más, ya que pensamos que es algo de pobres”, pero en verano son un ingrediente ideal para preparar unas buenas ensaladas como la de “judías pintadas hervidas, con tomate cortado a daditos y pimienta negra, sal y aceite de oliva al gusto”. “También podemos sacar provecho al pescado, aunque sea un alimento perecedero. En el Mediterráneo encontramos serviolas en verano, que, simplemente tostadas, tienen las mismas propiedades organolépticas que el atún, tan preciado en otras culturas y por el cual a veces se pagan fortunas”.

Durante el evento, Ginés Martínez, presidente del Club, reivindicó la labor desarrollada por la entidad durante estos 50 años. “El Club ejerce sus competencias de forma modélica, en sus instalaciones, en el campo de boyas, en sus fines y objetivos como Club Náutico que es.

Ojalá todas las instituciones pudieran compartir este orgullo de trabajo bien hecho y responsable”.

El presidente expuso también que uno de los objetivos de la entidad andritxola es “seguir gestionando el Puerto, pese a los problemas actuales que quieren poner en duda este modelo de gestión ejemplar y necesario para Mallorca”.

El CVPA concede 16.000 euros a entidades sociales de la isla

The CVPA grants 16,000 euros to non-profit organizations in Mallorca

El CVPA entregó un total de 16.000 euros repartidos entre 24 entidades de Mallorca. La intención de estas subvenciones es ayudar a las asociaciones sin ánimo de lucro sociales, deportivas y culturales de Andratx y de Mallorca a alcanzar sus objetivos.

Ginés Martínez, presidente del Club, señaló ante los representantes de las entidades presentes en el acto que desde el CVPA “sentimos admiración por el trabajo que hacen estas asociaciones” y que “somos muchos los que estamos en este Club tratando de hacer las cosas bien”.

Estas palabras fueron recalcadas por

José Pascual, vicepresidente del CVPA, quien además agregó que “cada una de las asociaciones subvencionadas ayuda a que Andratx sea reconocido dentro y fuera de Mallorca”. “Nuestra actividad es náutica, pero no nos olvidamos de nuestro entorno. Es un honor poder ayudaros y os animamos a continuar y a seguir con vuestra labor”.

El Grupo Geiki Mallorca, del que forman parte marcas como Rústico, Be Wine, Miramar y Club de Vela, ha sido quien se ha hecho con la concesión de este local emblemático de Andratx.

Su propietario Giuliano di Matteo, es un italiano afincado en Mallorca desde hace unos diez años y su encargado es Juan Enseñat, andritxol que desde temprana edad se vinculó a esta entidad.

El restaurante del Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx cuenta ahora con un equipo experto en hostelería que pretende dar un exclusivo servicio al cliente. Chana Barrios será el chef encargado de deleitar los paladares de los comensales, que se encontrarán con una amplia y variada carta.

La emoción de disfrutar del verano en el mar La Escuela, un servicio del club para las familias, es el lugar ideal para las vacaciones

M.C. Como cada año, cuando llega el verano, la Escuela de Mar se llena de niños y niñas dispuestos a pasar unas vacaciones para no olvidar. Este servicio, que se ofrece a familias del Club, a todo el término municipal de Andratx y a pueblos aledaños, es una buena oportunidad para acercar a los más pequeños a los deportes acuáticos a la vez que ofrece una solución a los padres y madres trabajadores que no pueden hacerse cargo de los hijos durante las vacaciones escolares.

De finales de junio hasta que termina agosto las instalaciones del Club de Vela acogen cinco cursos sucesivos con unos cuarenta asistentes cada uno. Para poder atender a los más pequeños de la casa como es debido, la ratio de monitores es de uno para diez o doce participantes. El verano es el momento ideal para que los más jóvenes gocen con los amigos de las actividades que más les gustan. Sebastián Palmer, administrativo del Club, afirma que “la Escuela de Mar marca la diferencia respecto de las demás propuestas de verano ya que aquí

se va mucho más allá de los típicos deportes y se ofrecen clases en el mar con expertos monitores de vela y piragua”.

Nada más llegar, a las 9 de la mañana, las actividades que realizan los inscritos a la Escuela varían dependiendo del día.

Tienen la oportunidad de relajarse practicando yoga, de hacer manualidades relacionadas con el mar como aprender a hacer nudos marineros o realizar talleres sobre la posidonia, o incluso de preparar un festival para el fin de curso si así lo desean. El primer contacto con el mar empieza a las 10 de la mañana, con la actividad de piragua, a la que seguirá la natación justo antes de un descanso para comer y resguardarse de las horas de más sol. Por la tarde es el turno de las clases de vela, que ponen el punto final a un día repleto de aventuras y buenos momentos.

Los monitores de mar son expertos en la materia que imparten. Todos suelen ser miembros del Club y ellos mismos practican los deportes que enseñan a los niños con mucha pasión.

Por su parte, el equipo de monitores de tierra se encarga de fomentar el buen

ambiente y de entretener a los niños y niñas con interesantes propuestas.

Los jóvenes asistentes a la Escuela de Mar lo pasan tan bien que en numerosas ocasiones repiten su experiencia en veranos posteriores, incluso algunos de ellos quedan tan enamorados de los deportes que practican que pasan a formar parte de los diferentes equipos del Club de Vela.

The thrill of spending the summer at sea The School is the ideal place to make the most of the holidays Like every year when the summer arrives, the sea school “Escuela del Mar” fills with boys and girls ready to spend an unforgettable holiday. This service, which is offered to all the Club families, to the whole of the Andratx municipal district and the adjoining villages, is a great opportunity for the youngest ones to get acquainted with water sports and

at the same time it offers a solution to the working mothers and fathers that cannot take care of their children during the summer holiday.

From late June until the end of August, the sailing club facilities “Club de Vela” accommodate up to five consecutive courses with around forty attendants each. To ensure that the young ones are well taken care of, the instructor’s ratio is one for every 10 or 12 participants. The Summer is the ideal time for the youngest to enjoy their favourite activities with their friends. Sebastián Palmer, the club’s manager, states that the Escuela del Mar is different to all the other summer proposals as they go far beyond the typical sports and also offer classes in the sea with expert instructors in sailing and canoeing”.

From the very moment they arrive at 9am, the activities that the participants of the school do vary depending on the day. They can relax practicing yoga, they can do sea related crafts such as learning to make a sailor’s knot or perform workshops on Posidonia. They can even prepare a festival for the end of the course if they wish to. The first

contact with the sea begins at 10am with the canoeing activity, followed by swimming just before the lunch break for shelter during the hottest hours. In the afternoon, the sailing classes take turn, which puts an end to a day full of adventures and fun.

The sea monitors are experts on the subject they teach. They are all usually members of the club and practice the sports they teach the kids with great

passion themselves. On their side, the instructors that work “on land” are responsible for promoting the good atmosphere and entertaining the children with interesting activities. The young attendants to Escuela del Mar usually truly enjoy themselves and often repeat the experience the following summers.

Some of them are so fond of the sports they practice that they become part of the Club de Vela’s varied teams.

La fiesta del cincuentenario ha sido uno de los actos más esperados del año.

Fueron cientos los asistentes que el 8 de septiembre disfrutaron de un día inolvidable en la explanada del Club. Los presentes deleitaron sus paladares con los ricos manjares de los food trucks y disfrutaron de una jornada animada por las bandas Hit Had Old Jazz, Versionados y The Wateques. Nit de la Mar La Nit de la Mar es la noche en la que se premian a los deportistas de élite del Club. El día 25 de agosto unas 320 personas se reunieron en la explanada de la entidad para saborear las exquisiteces del catering Bon Gust, mientras observaban cómo 29 de sus deportistas recogían sus galardones.

Night of the Sea “La Nit de la Mar” is the night on which the Club’s elite athletes are awarded. On August 25 circa 320 people gathered in the club to savor the exquisite delicacies of “Bon Gust’s” catering, while 29 of its athletes collected their awards.

Fiesta infantil y concurso de dibujo

Los más pequeños de la casa también son importantes para el CVPA, a los que se les dedican actividades tan divertidas como el concurso de dibujo, dirigido a niños de entre 4 y 10 años, o la fiesta infantil, en la que estuvieron presentes unos 65 niños.

The youngest among us are also important to CVPA and so, for them, we plan out activities such as the drawing contest, aimed at children aged 4 to 10, and the children’s party, which this year had over 65 children participating.

Cena del Club El 14 de agosto, un total de 347 personas se reunieron en el restaurante del CVPA para ser partícipes de la Cena del Club, una noche especial en la que se sirvió un aperitivo de langosta, ternera como plato principal y un cremoso postre de mousse de yogurt. La orquesta Big Marítim y La Movida Band fueron dos de los grupos que animaron el ambiente.

Club dinner On August 14, around 347 people gathered at the CVPA’s restaurant to participate in the Club’s Dinner, a special night in which a lobster appetizer was served, a main course of veal and a creamy yoghurt mousse dessert. Diners were accompanied by the music of the “Big Marítim” Orchestra and “La Movida Band”.

Sardinada La gastronomía tiene un papel muy importante en cada uno de los festejos del CVPA, siendo la Sardinada uno de los eventos más arraigados. Celebrado el día 28 de julio, se cocinaron 275 kilos de sardinas para llenar los estómagos de los 557 asistentes.

Sardine Tasting Gastronomy holds a very important role in each of the celebrations of the CVPA, with the “Sardinada” being one of the most distinct events. Held on July 28, 275 kilos of sardines were cooked for 557 attendees.

Concurso de arroces del mundo El concurso de arroces reunió este año a 14 equipos de cocina en torno a otros tantos chefs socios del Club, que demostraron sus habilidades culinarias vistiendo el delantal de chef y deleitando los paladares de los aproximadamente 180 asistentes. Se cocinaron todo tipo de arroces, pero fue Margarita Terrassa la que se hizo con el primer premio.

World Rice Contest The rice contest brought together 14 cooking teams this year in addition to the Club’s members, who demonstrated their culinary skills in full chef’s gear and delighting the palates of the approximately 180 attendees. A great variety of rice dishes were cooked, but first prize went to Margalida Terrassa.

Nuevo restaurante Día 16 de marzo se inauguró el restaurante del CVPA, cuya concesión está ahora a cargo del Grupo Geikei Mallorca. Fueron unas 300 personas las que disfrutaron de la buena comida y del ambiente festivo que se respiraba en el establecimiento. Los asistentes, además, pasaron una muy buena velada musical que continuo con un espectáculo de bailarines de Son Amar.

On March 16 the CVPA’s new restaurant, managed by the Geikei Mallorca Group, first opened its doors. Approximately 300 people attended and enjoyed the good food and great atmosphere of the restaurant. In addition, diners were treated to a musical interlude followed by a routine by dancers from Son Amar.

Camino de Santiago Del 5 al 12 de octubre, unos 30 peregrinos se sumaron a la marcha que el Club de Vela organizó por el Camino de Santiago. El trayecto, de 160 kilómetros, se hizo en seis etapas y este año se optó por la ruta francesa, atravesando las provincias de Burgos y Palencia.

The Way of St James From October 5 to 12, some 30 pilgrims joined the march organized by the Sailing Club along the “Camino de Santiago” (The Way of St. James). The 160-kilometer route, was accomplished in six stages and this year the French route was chosen, crossing the provinces of Burgos and Palencia.
