THE 15TH ANNUAL MALDEN CATHOLIC GALA

A Virtual Gathering THURSDAY, APRIL 29, 2021 | 7:OO PM

GALA BLESSING With gratitude and praise, as we mark God’s movement in our lives this past year, let our voices cry out the words of St. Paul:

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus!” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

15TH ANNUAL GALA | PAGE 2

For where You speak, Father, there is justice; where You dwell, Lord Jesus, there is peace; where You act, Holy Spirit, there is love. O Holy Trinity, we thank you for the blessings you so richly bestow on our Malden Catholic Community. We thank you for the goodness of our Faculty & Staff, we praise you for our students and families, and we thank you for the wonderful agents of support who further our sacred Mission. Keep us each in your care, we pray, now and forever. We pray these things in confidence through St. Francis Xavier, Amen.

A Message from our Board Chair To our Malden Catholic Community: On behalf of the Board of Trustees I want to express our sincere gratitude to John Thornburg and his entire team for their valiant commitment to excellence this year. Despite all the challenges the pandemic presented, Malden Catholic stood tall and continued to deliver an outstanding education to its young men and women while consistently ensuring the working environment was as safe as possible. The efforts of our nursing staff and custodians was extraordinary. We cannot thank them enough. Our teachers, counselors and staff showed great commitment and courage throughout the year, oftentimes at their own peril. They clearly deserve the recognition they are being shown at our Gala celebration. I hope all of you will join me in extending your thanks for their incredible display of love for our Mission at Malden Catholic. My personal best to everybody in the MC family. Jim Donovan, Hon 2011 Chair, Malden Catholic Board of Trustees

A Message from our Headmaster Fifteen years ago, Malden Catholic hosted its first Gala! The event grew and became a beloved annual tradition where our community of alumni, families, faculty, and staff celebrate our Mission. The Gala presented the perfect opportunity to recognize members of our community who go “more beyond” with the presentation of the Plus Ultra Award. Over the years, MC has had the privilege of honoring MC’s most selfless, committed, and loyal champions with the Plus Ultra Award. So, this year we are delighted to announce that we will honor our Malden Catholic Faculty and Staff with the 2021 Plus Ultra Award. While COVID 19 changed how our students have been educated, it has not altered the value of the Malden Catholic experience. We recognize with gratitude all that the Malden Catholic’s faculty and staff have done to provide a Culture of Health and Safety and an outstanding education for our students. From adapting to virtual learning to keeping our students and families informed and connected, our team rose to the challenge with a profound spirit of Plus Ultra dedication and commitment. They are our unwavering, unsung heroes, and we are delighted to celebrate their individual and collective contributions to MC. In these unprecedented times, we have worked together as a community, turning adversity into an advantage. For this reason, the Gala is also a celebration of everyone in our Malden Catholic family. Our parents and alumni have been steadfast, providing unwavering faith, constant encouragement, and belief in the Malden Catholic Mission. Your support has provided us with the fortitude to persevere and the ability to “Soar Beyond!

THE MALDEN CATHOLIC FACULTY & STAFF

While COVID-19 has changed the way our students have been educated, it has not at all altered the value of the Malden Catholic experience our students have received. We recognize, with gratitude, all that Malden Catholic's dedicated faculty and staff have done to safely provide our students with an extraordinary education, in essence turning adversity into an advantage during these unprecedented times. From creating a Culture of Health to teaching simultaneously to inperson and virtual learners, with every challenge they rose to the occasion with a profound spirit of Plus Ultra dedication and commitment. EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

Tributes to our Teachers My junior year did not start out the way I had planned; my previous high school closed, we were in the middle of a pandemic, and I had to attend half of my classes remotely, things were not looking great. I could never have predicted what a wonderful year this has been and I owe it to my awesome teachers. They have not only helped me academically but have also helped to make Malden Catholic feel like a second home. Thank you all so much. - ISABELLE BRADY 2022

Ms. Pecoraro I cannot thank you enough for all that you did for Kelsie during the 20192020 school year. You never gave up on her and because of that she has grown in leaps and bounds. - SHEILA MCCULLOCK P 2022

To Mr. Caristinos for giving endless hours advising, supporting, and encouraging the Robotics Club.

As a freshman, I had many concerns about starting a new school, add a pandemic and hybrid learning, and my concerns multiplied. Now that I am coming to the end of my freshman year, I know how fortunate I am to be attending Malden Catholic High School. I know this has been a challenging year for everyone, but through it all, I have felt safe, challenged, and supported in all my classes, and welcomed into a new community that will be my home for the next few years. I want to personally thank my teachers Mr. Galivan, Mr. Grocki, Mrs. Havice-Morais, Mr. Jorge, Mr. Murray, Mr. Pelosi, and Mrs. Sambrook. Whether it was meeting me before school for extra help, staying after school to go over a test or paper, answering my emails, or just taking a few minutes to ask me how I was doing after class, each of my teachers has been there for me during this very unusual year. All of you have gone above and beyond to help your students have a successful freshman year, thank you. - JACKSON BRADY 2024

I want to express my gratitude to Brother Joseph Britt, CFX for fostering my interest in history. - PAUL FITZGERALD 1981
