The Brother Gilbert, C.F.X Legacy Society

In 2004, Malden Catholic inaugurated the Theodore James Ryken Society to recognize those who have provided for future generations of Malden Catholic students by making gifts through bequests, life income arrangements and other planned gifts. In 2022, Malden Catholic renamed the school’s planned giving society to honor the legacy of Brother Gilbert Cairnes, C.F.X., first Headmaster of Malden Catholic. As one who left an indelible mark on Malden Catholic, Brother Gilbert, a native of Somerville, was a gifted teacher and a born communicator with a keen understanding of the young and a deep interest in their concerns. To his fellow Xaverian Brothers and to the members of the MC community, Brother Gilbert, C.F.X., was and continues to be an inspiration. Throughout his tenure at Malden Catholic his limitless store of amusing anecdotes served as a vehicle for an inspirational message, while his listening skills lent an added grace to a life genuinely dedicated to the hospitable acceptance of others. Alumni and friends honor the great legacy of Brother Gilbert, C.F.X., as the school's stadium and MC's National Honor Society Chapter are named after him. As Malden Catholic continues to grow and develop to meet the needs of today’s students and families through the school’s Legacy Society, we remember and we honor Brother Gilbert, C.F.X., who modeled so well the motto of the Xaverian Brothers, “In Harmony Small Things Grow.”

When you join the Brother Gilbert, C.F.X., Legacy Society, you demonstrate your commitment to the current and future students at Malden Catholic High School. Your planned gift is a wonderful way to honor the dedication and commitment of the Xaverian Brothers and Malden Catholic’s dedicated lay teachers. A planned gift is an inspiration to future generations and a reminder of the philanthropy that sustains Malden Catholic High School. By giving back through a bequest or a planned gift, Brother Gilbert, C.F.X., Society members demonstrate a lasting dedication and loyalty that transcends time and helps to build a strong and viable infrastructure for future generations.

Members of the Brother Gilbert, C.F.X., Society have indicated in writing that they have made special provisions for Malden Catholic in their estate plans. In addition to being a meaningful gift to MC, planned giving helps to reduce or eliminate taxes on capital gains and federal estate taxes for the donors. Please check with your financial advisor or accountant for more details on arranging for a planned gift and the personal benefits associated with that charitable gift.
