COIT Walk For Charity Sunday, 29 April,

Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten), students coloured their campus ‘pink’ in Walk For Charity. The walk was organised by students of the College of Information Technology (COIT), Putrajaya Campus. In this swift era of technology, where computer takes over physical engagement, COIT students not only stepped out of their class room, but they took one step forward in walking for cancer.

Apart from the students, the lecturers and their family members were also fully geared in Pink to give their support for cancer.

The walk raised RM4,000.

MAKEOVER for CANCER PATIENTS The physical affects of radiation or chemotherapy in the treatment of cancer can be devastating.

Weight loss, hair loss and persistent tiredness can leave cancer patients feeling less than beautiful. Makeovers are intended to help people dealing with cancer to look their best and hopefully feel better as a result.

Makeup artist Noryanti (volunteer) has been donating her time, skill and makeup supplies for cancer patients at our Taman Austin half-way home, Johor Bahru.

SEAGULL CARRIES FOR CANCER PATIENTS

Seagull Logistics Sdn Bhd launched its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts by carrying hope for cancer patients on their container trucks. Seagull Logistics Sdn Bhd brings message to the public “You Carry Hope For Cancer”. It has always been the company’s aim to contribute back just as much to provide aid to the society in any way possible.

Seagull Logistics Sdn Bhd has come forward to support the National Cancer Council (MAKNA), Malaysia in providing free advertising space on the container. The company hopes that this will help garner more support from the society to provide MAKNA the means and the needs it require in its never ending task of helping to improve the lives of those affected by cancer.

“In the past years, Seagull teams both in Malaysia and Thailand have made various efforts in providing aid to flood victims, welfare homes and other forms of donations. This year, our company has taken a new approach with the aim of creating awareness by providing free advertising space on our containers to foundations and charity organisations such as MAKNA” said Mr. Jack Tan, Marketing Manager Seagull Logistics Sdn Bhd. The container trucks will travel along the major highways of Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The corridor outside the library showing cancer exhibition booths; the concourse area being phased into a saloon; the food fair, games, stage in the foyer; and the whole compound of Monash being the stage for street magic and music performances!

The carnival was swamped with “Hair for Hope” – thanks to A Cut Above Academy, street performance, ‘dunking booth’, gladiator boxing, flash mob, dance performance by neighbour college - Taylors, intervarsity telematches (aimed to foster bonds and comradeship with neighbouring medical schools as well as to show support in the fight against cancer), Lend a Hand – palm imprint for cancer and t-shirt sales was ecstatic.

COVER STORY On this year’s World No Tobacco Day, which was celebrated on Thursday 31st May 2012, the main objective behind the campaign would be to put the spotlight on the tobacco industry’s continued efforts to undermine the policies from WHO FCTC (World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control), which states “the need to be alert to any efforts by the tobacco industry to undermine or subvert tobacco control efforts and the need to be informed of activities of the tobacco industry that have a negative impact on tobacco control efforts”.

One good example of the tobacco industry’s unwillingness to adhere to the policies was to stop the progress for pictorial health warnings on cigarette boxes; they have opted to sue countries under bilateral investment treaties that claim the warning is intruding in their branding.

The World No Tobacco Day 2012 is a platform to train policy-makers and the public of these harmful tactics, and throughout the following year, WHO will advocate countries to put the fight against tobacco industry on centre stage to have a better control on the epidemic.

BANNING SMOKING IN PUBLIC Banning smoking had been proven to significantly reduce the threat of heart attacks predominantly among the young people and nonsmokers, with a reduction of heart attacks up to 26 percent, according to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, published on September 29, 2009.

In accordance with the study, it is predicted that banning smoking in the United States can in turn prevent as many as 15,400 heart attacks annually; hence proving that second-hand-smoke exposure is as harmful as an active smoker.

Facts: • Direct smoking doubles the risk of heart attack.

• Second hand smoke increases the risk by 30 %.

“Public smoking bans seem to be tremendously effective in reducing heart attack and, theoretically, might also help to prevent lung cancer and emphysema, diseases that develop much more slowly than heart attacks.

The cardiac benefits increased with longer ban duration.”

In Malaysia, the banning of smoking in public areas actually began in the 1980s and has gradually taken momentum. Currently the smoking ban has been enforced to the working areas of the private sector that include an air-conditioning-system area, raising the ban to 21 designated categories as smoke free areas, that include hospitals/clinics, public lifts and toilets, air-conditioned restaurants, public transport, government premises, educational institutions, petrol stations, Internet cafes and shopping complexes.

Furthermore, it is considered a criminal offence to smoke in a smoke-free-area with central airconditioning. Failing to comply with the ban, smokers may be fined up to RM10,000 or two years of imprisonment.

Smoking Bans in History…

1575 - Mexican ecclesiastical council forbade the use of tobacco in any church in Mexico and Spanish colonies.

1604 - King James I of England published an anti-smoking treatise that had the effect of raising taxes on tobacco.

1633 - The Ottoman Sultan Murad IV prohibited smoking in his empire.

1590 - Pope Urban VII also prohibited smoking in the Church, followed by Urban VIII.

Wednesday 18 April, Norliyana A. Bakar fondly known to us as Liyana became a mother. She celebrated double joy giving birth to healthy twin baby boys.

“The whole labour room was so excited with my delivery, according to the medical staff, more than usual we have extra medical staff anxiously waiting in the room to welcome my babies. That is because I was under the care of Ampang Hospital during my treatment days so the medical staff and I became close friends. I love my visit there as they are friendly and caring. The nurses were encouragingly saying ‘Push Liyana Push’ with the oxygen nebuliser to ease my pain while delivering.

I told them, ‘Hey! Still painful lah!’… and when the babies both came out safely, they all cheered and I felt as if the roof was going to go off. The person in pain was me… but the greatest joy is, I knew I was in good hands and surrounded by beautiful people.

Recently Monica, Aarya and I visited Liyana to catch up with her and hear her exciting story, because we know she is always bubbly and loves cracking jokes and pulling other people’s legs. Here is what she had to say:

The funny thing is, when I went for my last regular check-up, my doctor examined me and told me, “Liyana your dilation is 4cm and you’re going to have the child anytime”. But doctor, are you sure because, I don’t feel anything yet. What to do, it is my first pregnancy and I don’t know what to expect and what to feel. I was then immediately admitted and on the same evening my babies were out. The elder weighing 2.2kgs came out at 3.37pm and the younger came out 3 minutes later weighing 2.1kgs.

Being good babies they never gave their Mummy any trouble, I felt no panic at all.

My hubby Azrin Shah, named the elder boy Muhammad Faris Shah and his younger brother Muhammad Faiz Shah. He had been a caring soul mate from the time we were dating, when I was studying in UITM, Shah Alam, when I was diagnosed with lung cancer, during and after treatment, and then when we tied the knot and now, we have our child, I mean children. Faris means ‘pious’ and Faiz means ‘successful’ and/or ‘brilliant’ where Shah means ‘famous’. Our babies are our Gems; we want them to be humble, smart and successful in life.

Liyana is an inspiration, she is a strong willed woman. She was first diagnosed with lymphatic cancer which led onto Stage 4 Lung Cancer (right lung) in March 2006. She underwent 8 cycles of chemotherapy 25 fractions of radiotherapy.

It almost took her life; she went into coma for 9 days. After recovering from coma, she had to go through surgery, following which she succumbed to paralysis of the waist and below for almost 1 year 5 months. Left with skin and bones, her determination to come out from the whole trauma paid off with the support of her family, the medical team and her friends. Her mother would care for Liyana just like a new born; the physiotherapist helps Liyana with her daily therapy sessions. It was totally a devastating experience for Liyana, she was born all over again. She had to learn how to walk and start picking up her chores slowly.

At the end of 2007 she joined MAKNA as a volunteer and provided emotional support to diagnosed cancer patients and the general public.

On 11 Dec 2009 she got married to the man she loved most, Azrin Shah B. Sabeh, who stood by her when she was battling her lung cancer.

These last six years were full of many stories that unfolded in her life. Today, she is a mother of two cute babies and together with her husband she now lives a full and positive life. Liyana, you are truly an inspiration!

FEATURE STORY Satu Program Saringan Kanser dan Mamografi MAKNA telah diadakan untuk seluruh warga Perlis selama empat hari mulai 22 hingga 25 Mei 2012 yang lalu.

Program tersebut telah dianjurkan oleh Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Perlis sempena sambutan Ulang tahun Hari Keputeraan ke-69 Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Raja Perlis yang disambut pada 17 Mei 2012, dan Pertubuhan Kumpulan Sokongan Kanser Negeri Perlis dimana kebanyakan ahlinya merupakan sukarelawan MAKNA.

Ketibaan DYMM Tuanku Tengku Fauziah disambut oleh DYTM Tuanku Raja Muda dan Tuanku Puan Muda Perlis.

DYMM Tuanku Raja Perempuan Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Binti Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid telah berkenan untuk mencemar duli serta merasmikan Program Saringan tersebut di perkarangan Dewan Residensi, Kangar, Perlis pada 22 Mei 2012. Turut hadir pada majlis tersebut adalah Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tuanku Raja Muda Perlis, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia, Tuanku Raja Puan Muda Perlis, isteri Menteri Besar, Datin Aishah, Presiden MAKNA, Dato’ Mohd Farid Ariffin dan Pengurus Besar, Puan Farahida Mohd Farid serta tetamu kehormat daripada kerabat Diraja Perlis dan Kerajaan Negeri.

Dalam titah Baginda, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah menyatakan bahawa rakyat Perlis amat bertuah kerana dapat menikmati perkhidmatan saringan kanser payudara menggunakan kaedah mamografi melalui perkhidmatan “mobile trailer”, tanpa perlu ke hospital. Memandangkan kanser merupakan antara pembunuh utama di zaman ini, Baginda berharap rakyat Perlis khususnya para wanita tidak mensiasiakan peluang ini untuk menjalani pemeriksaan kerana mencegah adalah lebih baik daripada mengubati. Baginda juga berterima kasih kepada

Kerajaan Negeri dan MAKNA atas usaha mengatur perjalanan program selama empat hari dalam memberi kesedaran serta langkah pencegahan mengenai kanser kepada rakyat Perlis.

Di acara yang sama Presiden MAKNA, Dato Mohd Farid Ariffin mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi penghargaan dan terima kasih kepada DYMM Tuanku Tengku Fauziah, DYTM Tuanku Raja Muda dan DYTM Tuanku Raja Puan Muda atas kesudian mencemar duli berangkat ke acara yang penuh bersejarah itu. Selama 18 tahun sejak ditubuhkan MAKNA telah melibatkan diri memperjuangkan pencegahan kanser melalui kempen kesedaran kepada masyarakat di samping mengumpul dana bagi membantu pesakit kanser yang kurang upaya dan tidak berkemampuan. Setakat ini MAKNA telah memberi bantuan kewangan kepada lebih 300,000 kes kanser daripada 87 hospital kerajaan di seluruh Malaysia.

Menurut Dato’ Farid lagi, Program Saringan Kanser dan Mamografi MAKNA merupakan program yang menggabungkan elemen kempen saringan kanser melalui mamografi untuk wanita yang berusia 40

FEATURE STORY Setelah merasmikan program saringan kanser MAKNA ini, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah telah menyerahkan cek bernilai RM30,000 yang merupakan sumbangan daripada Yayasan Amal Tengku Hajjah Budriah Perlis kepada pihak MAKNA. Kami di MAKNA ingin mengucapkan setinggi penghargaan dan terima kasih ke bawah DYMM Raja Perempuan Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah, serta DYTM Tuanku Raja Muda Perlis dan DYTM Tuanku Raja Puan Muda Perlis kerana berkenan mencemar duli merasmikan program saringan kanser MAKNA dan juga di atas DYMM Tuanku Tengku Fauziah merasmikan Program sumbangan derma kepada MAKNA. Penghargaan Saringan Kanser dan Mammografi MAKNA dan ucapan terima kasih juga disampaikan kepada tahun ke atas di samping kempen kesedaran kanser. YM Tengku Puan Laksamana Perlis, Dato’ Paduka Program yang menggunakan treler ini merupakan Datin Seri DiRaja Sharifah Hishmah Shahabudin satu-satunya seumpamanya di Malaysia yang telah selaku penasihat program. Akhir sekali ucapan menelan belanja sebanyak RM1.6 juta. Sebahagian terima kasih yang tidak terhingga kepada kerajaan besar sumbangan adalah daripada Yayasan Tenaga negeri Perlis serta semua yang terlibat secara Nasional yang sudi menyumbang RM200,000 untuk langsung atau tidak langsung sehingga berjayanya tempoh lima tahun (RM 1 juta), manakala MNRB program ini diadakan.

Holdings pula menyumbang RM600,000. Sejak mula beroperasi pada tahun 2011, program ini telah menjelajah ke sembilan negeri termasuk Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah dan Pahang. Setakat ini 1,246 peserta telah menjalani ujian mamogram manakala 2,669 peserta telah menjalani pemeriksaan klinikal payudara.

Program bergerak saringan kanser melawat Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Pada 10 April 2012 yang lalu, program bergerak saringan kanser payudara MAKNA telah berada di premis Ibu Pejabat Tenaga Nasional untuk mengadakan program saringan kanser payudara di kalangan warga wanita TNB. Lawatan ke TNB ini telah dialu-alukan oleh Yang Berusaha Puan Adeline Iskandar, Naib Presiden Hal Ehwal Korporat TNB. Yayasan Tenaga Nasional merupakan penyumbang terbesar program saringan kanser payudara MAKNA yang berjanji menyumbang RM200,000 untuk tempoh lima tahun. Setakat ini Yayasan telah menyumbang RM900,000 untuk program ini kepada MAKNA.Pada acara satu hari itu MAKNA telah menjalankan saringan ke atas lebih 80 warga TNB. Seramai 129 kaum lelaki dan wanita telah menjalani pemeriksaan klinikal payudara . MAKNA turut menerima RM100,000 daripada Yayasan Tenaga Nasional yang merupakan baki sumbangan satu juta yang telah dijanjikan.

new research reveals that a specific type of lung cancer many smokers develop comes from tiny tears in their lung tissue caused by microscopic glass fibers, also known as glass wool, found in many conventional cigarette filters.

These rips in the epithelial (soft) tissue fuel the development of tumors and cancerous cells due to the constant overload of toxins, namely pesticides, nicotine and ammonia, contained in commercial cigarette smoke.

The filters of typical commercial cigarettes contain microscopic, needle-shaped shards of glass wool (like fiberglass insulation) which escape into the mouth and throat, and then lodge with tobacco tar in the lung tissue, surrounding the alveoli (tiny air sacs) and lead to COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), emphysema and eventually lung cancer.

Why Fiberglass?

The cigarette filter (butt) acts as a buffer from the extreme heat of the cigarette’s burning chemicals, which can exceed 1700 degrees Fahrenheit during inhale. Fibrous glass has the heatresistant qualities of asbestos, which makes it an efficient material for insulation; however, if you’ve ever been in an attic and got insulation on your skin, you already know how irritating the glass fibers can be, so now imagine what it’s doing to the inside of a smoker’s lungs.

A report from an unspecified unnamed hospital in the United States reviewed x-rays of damaged lung tissue of several cigarette smokers and said the x-rays looked identical to those of patients exposed to asbestos, and that diagnostic imaging revealed what looked like “ground glass” which settled in the soft tissue near the bottom of the lungs (GGO - ground glass opacity). The interviewed nurse said, “When lung tissue is damaged over and over, it develops lesions, and the cancer cells can plant themselves in there like seeds.”

Up to 12,000 microscopic glass fibers are tightly bound together, which explains why filters take between 10 to 15 years to disintegrate. If the filter were simply cotton rolled tightly in paper, a few rainstorms would break it up and wash it away within weeks. Filters are also constructed to catch the tar and the tobacco particles from coming through, but not entirely.

According to the report, the tiny shards penetrate the “lipid bilayer, then embed in the lung tissue, causing the tissue to harden and eventually lose its ability to absorb oxygen.” This damage fuels the development of the same type of lung cancer (mesothelioma) associated with asbestos poisoning.

It also explained how smoking destroys the cilia (tiny hairs) that help push excretions/mucous out, and how when smokers sleep, their breathing patterns relax and the “tar deposits creep in on damaged air sacs called blebs, eventually rupturing and collapsing them.” This is why when smokers awake in the morning they can experience unproductive coughing fits and/or bronchial spasms.

Although fiberglass is not the same as asbestos, it can be just as damaging to the human body. The long, very narrow fibers penetrate deep into lung tissue and remain there. One study conducted with rats showed that fibrous glass is a potent carcinogen, leading to changes in the DNA genetic structure and breaking down the immune system. This is one reason smoker’s fight colds, the flu, sinus and bronchial infections for much longer periods of time than non-smokers.

It is becoming all the rage among the younger generation today, and has long been a popular social pastime in many Middle Eastern cultures.

But the World Health Organization (WHO) now claims that smoking hookah, also known as shisha, for one hour is the equivalent of smoking 100 cigarettes, a claim that has no real basis in science.

Though it might not be beneficial per se, the health effects of smoking hookah have never really been studied in an objective, unbiased way. And since types of hookah tobacco vary in quality and content, as do the coals used to create smoke from this tobacco, it is difficult to truly ascertain how this popular new fad is affecting the lungs of the millions that now smoke it.

Even so, WHO has determined that hookah in general can be more dangerous than smoking cigarettes, despite the fact that hookah smoke passes through water where it is cooled and filtered prior to filling the lungs of smokers. And according to Professor Robert West, Director of Tobacco Studies at University College London, the smoke from tobacco itself,

regardless of whether it comes from a cigarette or from hookah, can cause DNA damage, which in turn can lead to cancer.

“Smoke from tobacco contains a number of carcinogens which damage the DNA in cells,” he claims. “Just one damaged cell can divide and multiply uncontrollably into a large tumor. This is what causes lung cancer.”

But is smoking hookah really the same as smoking cigarettes, and is a single hookah smoking session really responsible for causing as much lung damage as 100 cigarettes? The evidence is truly inconclusive on this matter, as the two are very different things altogether. Cigarettes involve the literal burning of tobacco, as well as paper and various added chemicals, while hookah involves merely heating flavored tobacco, which evaporates the sugars and flavors and creates a different type of smoke.

Hardly an endorsement of smoking hookah or cigarettes for that matter, the purpose of trying to clarify this issue is a matter of parsing fact from fiction in a world that often jumps on the bandwagon of whatever the health authorities declare to be true about the subject. And in the case of hookah, it appears as though health authorities are greatly exaggerating its dangers, while remaining hypocritically silent about serious killers like artificial sweeteners, pharmaceutical drugs, processed foods, genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), low-fat diets, and toxic chemicals and pesticides.

GLOBAL DONORS FORUM APRIL 26 – 28, 2012 Global Donors Forum is the annual convening of World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists to promote effective alms giving and forge strategic partnerships for high-impact social investment.

Once a year, the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists brings together distinguished philanthropists, public and private sector leaders, social investors, and experts from across the world to offer pragmatic insight and constructive response to pressing global and regional challenges.

Since the event took place in Malaysia last April, the wise thing to do is to be a part of this rare collective gathering of alms giving. As an NGO, MAKNA always strives to gain more knowledge of the methods employed to reach out to the public to meet its credo of giving and we believe that the forum is a valuable learning platform. In addition to the learning experience, the forum served as a venue for networking with different types of organisations from different parts of the world. By learning from their experiences of perfecting the Islamic method of raising funds, we learnt that there are more significant available options, hence keeping our hope of winning the battle against cancer alive.

The annual forum serves as a marketplace for ideas, a platform for sharing knowledge and forging partnerships, and a launching pad for high-impact collaborative activities. In addition, this forum is widely recognized as the premier worldwide forum on Muslim philanthropy where issues unique to Muslim alms giving are discussed in a safe space.

Latest Developments in Makna’s INITIATIVES FOR SOUTHEAST ASIA By the International Division

Meeting with the Vice-Minister of Health of Vietnam

The months of April and May have been very eventful for the International Division. Early in April, the division’s manager, Mr. Matheus Barrachi, visited Singapore to meet with Dr. Iain Tan Bee Huat and Dr. Toh Han Chong of the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), where they conferred about the possibility of collaborative programs in the fields of research and training.

A week after this, the International Division was again in Hanoi, Vietnam, where there have been significant developments. Dr. Vu Hoang Nguyen, the General Director of the Triduc General Hospital, welcomed Mr. Barrachi with the announcement that they are donating an office space to MAKNA in Vietnam. Thereafter, the Division Manager was honoured to meet with Madam Nguyen Thi Xuyen, the Honourable Vice Minister of Health to discuss MAKNA’s participation in a major screening program for Breast and Cervical Cancer in 25 provinces in the north of Vietnam, which will be in partnership with the Bright Future Foundation and the management of the K Hospital under Dr. Tran Van Thuan. This project will be supported by the Hanoi Medical University’s Health Club and HMU’s fresh graduates, as discussed with the club’s president, Mr. Tran Ahn Tu, as well as the Young Doctors Association of Vietnam.

In early May, Mr. Barrachi with a division executive, Ms. Claudia Rivera, paid a visit to the Philippines.

Here, they first met with Dr. Rachael Rosario of the Philippine Cancer Society, where they discussed the overall cancer scenario in the Philippines. A meeting was also held with the Cancer Institute Foundation of the Philippine General Hospital, University of the Philippines in Manila, where the MAKNA representatives were received by the CIF’s president Mr. Antonio Perez, and their coordinator, Dr. Marvin Pangilinan. After exploring potential cooperations, MAKNA had the privilege of being shown around the institute as well. MAKNA was later invited to participate in the Cancer Stakeholders Consultative Meeting regarding the “Moving as One” Campaign coordinated by Dr. Cecilia Llave in partnership with the Department of Health and UICC. It was attended by Ms. Rivera, who spoke about Malaysia’s National Cancer Registry, and who is responsible to help the Philippines initiate their own National Cancer Registry. The trip to the Philippines ended with a meeting between Ms. Rivera with Dr. Cecilia Leongson-Cruz of the Cancer and Hematology Center of the Philippine Children Medical Center (PCMC) in Quezon City to familiarise them with the situation of childhood cancer in the country.

MICROCREDIT Daniel needs to stay in the hospital for treatment.

Daniel’s mother stays to care for him in the hospital while Nanta had to work and found it difficult to commute frequently to see his child. This resulted in him looking for other work.

Daniel Nanta was 4 years old when he was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in 2006. Now the ten-year old leads an active normal life going to school and enjoys participating in extracurricular activities with his friends.

Daniel’s parents went through a tough time taking care of Daniel during his treatment. Daniel’s father Nanta, earns an unstable income as a fisherman, making a meagre RM450 a month. The family lives in Rumah Bangga Sungei Tusuk long-house, and Hospital Sibu Sarawak is 300km east from Nanta’s home in Belawai, presenting an obstacle to Daniel obtaining regular treatments.

Travelling to the hospital was not easy. The family had to travel by speed boat before catching a bus ride to reach Hospital Sibu for treatment. Travelling takes up one whole day to and from the hospital. The family lives in the interior of Sibu with limited access, where sights of unpaved roads are still a norm. Owing to his condition,

Desperate for an option that can solve his problem, MAKNA’s Micro Credit Programme caught Nanta’s interest. He had formed an idea to run a small grocery shop where he lives. In August 2008 Nanta received an interest free loan of RM3,000 to begin his grocery shop. As Daniel continued with his regular treatment, Nanta’s business started.

Besides the Micro Credit assistance, Daniel and the family received monthly financial assistance since 2007 under the Bursary Programme.

The Micro Credit loan helped him to establish and operate his own business from home. Nanta slowly paid off his interest free loan to MAKNA between 2009 and August 2011 as his business begins to make progress.

From earning RM450 a month as a fisherman, today Nanta is able to increase his monthly income in four folds. Nanta’s wife stood by her husband and her only child at the most trying period. She hopes to see her son grow healthy and have his own family one day.

Today, Daniel enjoys playing badminton and football.

He aspires to be an engineer. He goes regularly for his check-up every four months.

About the Micro Credit Programme The programme is implemented to provide small unsecured loans to cancer patients, survivors and their families for income improvement through business activities. These loans are interest free and require no collateral. 10% administrative charge applies to the loan for processing.
