CENTER POINT — The Alabama Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an early-morning apartment fire in Center Point, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019. Trussville Fire & Rescue getting new equipment, celebrates 3 promotions

GRAYSON VALLEY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two shootings in as many days in the Grayson Valley area. On Sunday, Dec. 1, Justin O’Neal McCurdy, 31, was arrested after deputies responded to a call regarding a domestic violence situation in the 1500 block of Wilderness Lane. Deputies said in a press release that when deputies arrived at the home, McCurdy

met with authorities on the front porch with a handgun. He then shot the gun into the air and then at the deputies, according to the press release. Deputies did not return fire because there were children in the residence. However, deputies said McCurdy continued to fire the weapon even after he retreated inside the home. A window was shot out during the incident. McCurdy subsequently surrendered after back-up arJustin O’Neal McCurdy rived. No one was hurt.

McCurdy is now charged with two counts of attempted murder and a count of illegally possessing a firearm. He is being held without bond. On Monday, Dec. 2, deputies responded to a call of a man down in the 2300 block of Grayson Valley Drive, at Willow Tree II Condos. Deputies on the scene found a man was seriously wounded. Chief Deputy David Agee said the man was confronted by two masked men at his home. The men had a pis-

tol and demanded his wallet. “The victim said that he struggled with the men and was shot during the fight,” Agee said. “The two men fled the scene.” Agee said neighbors helped the victim until first responders arrived. The victim’s injuries were determined to be serious but not life-threatening and he is expected to survive. The scene was processed for evidence and detectives are investigating this offense.

TRUSSVILLE — A student from Phillips Academy got a big boost for a charitable cause, from Academy Sports + Outdoors in Trussville. Ethan Hill is only 9-yearsold, but his heart is big and his good deed will now go a long way. Hill started a campaign to buy sleeping bags and care packages for the homeless this holiday season.
