Trussville residents complain about noise from downtown stage By Erica Thomas, managing editor

TRUSSVILLE — This Thanksgiving, some were grasping at straws when it came to counting blessings. It can be difficult to see all the good things happening in our own backyard or even our neighbor’s front yard when there is so much negativity swirling the universe. But sometimes it is the things people around us do all of the time that we forget to be thankful for. There is plenty to be thankful for in the city of Trussville and one of those things is the fire department. A perfect example of that happened on Sunday, Nov. 22. A woman on Hazlenut Drive was working in her yard when she fell and hurt herself. She also fell into a yellow jacket nest and was stung several times. Trussville Fire and Rescue was called out to help at 3:17 p.m. When the firefighters and

medics arrived, they rushed to help the woman. But they didn’t stop there. The crew worked together to finish raking the woman’s yard. Councilmember Alan Taylor said a neighbor immediately called him telling him what they just witnessed. “The lady is elderly and she was wanting to get her yard cleaned up,” said Taylor. “She keeps her yard pristine and she was in the middle of it and those guys stayed and finished cleaning up the la-

dy’s yard before they left. I don’t know what other city you would find that kind of dedication.” The woman was rushed to the hospital for treatment while crews cleared her yard. Fire Chief Tim Shotts isn’t one to brag. In fact, he said what members of his department did is nothing new. “I think that’s what we are expected to do,” said Shotts. “It was the right thing to do and that is why they did it.” But Taylor knows the

mentality of helping others and doing what is right is something to be thankful for this year. “I’m overwhelmed that we have a department that cares about their citizens so much because she was obviously hurting but to stay and do the job for her,” Taylor added. “I am so proud of them for taking the initiative to do that.” If you have a story you would like to share with The Tribune, email news@trussvilletribune.com.
