‘Don’t You Just Love Christmas’ production coming to Trussville’s downtown stage From The Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — “Don’t You Just Love Christmas” a five-day community event, is coming to the Trussville Entertainment District (TED) in December. The Trussville Downtown Merchants Association, along with The Trussville Tribune, are coming together to bring the musical production to families in the Birmingham-metro, and to bring smiles to the faces of children this holiday season. Steve Pennington, a helper of Santa Claus, has scheduled an appearance from the big man himself. Santa Claus and Friends will be taking photos with children and entertaining the masses from the stage in downtown. Digital copies of photos with Santa will be free to families. “We certainly believe that this can be a destination event for the city of Trussville,” said Pennington.
Pennington said the coronavirus pandemic has made it challenging for Santa to make regular appearances. Social distancing and masks will be
encouraged during the event. The Christmas event will be one of few this year. “I have been doing musical events in Birmingham for
the last 10 years and COVID has shut that down so this will allow Santa to return to the stage and keep his spirit alive,” Pennington said. Santa Claus and Friends hope the event can become a tradition in the heart of Trussville. “I think it will really be nice and I think it is something we can expand on in seasons to come,” Pennington added. Each day, the event will start with Santa photos followed by a 45-minute show. After the show, Santa will be available for more photos. Guitar Pros is donating PA equipment to make the event possible and Ferus Artisan Ales is encouraging other local businesses to take part in the event. New Springville Police Chief ushers in positive changes Blalock Building Company was one of eleven contractors to bid for the project. Construction will be financed through the state’s Public Schools and Colleges Authority (PSCA) bond, which allocated TCS approximately $5.9 million from the bond sale in October.
“Trussville City Schools will be one of the first systems in the state to utilize funds from the bond issue approved by the Legislature this past session,” said State Representative Danny Garrett. “TCS is recognized as a top system in the state and is once again leading and setting a standard with this needed capital
improvement. It is also great news that Blalock Building, a local contractor who has built previous projects for TCS and the city of Trussville, will be constructing this new facility that will become a central part of the downtown area.” Construction of the office building will take approximately one year to complete.

Clay Council discusses upcoming Christmas events
From The Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville City Board of Education this week announced it has awarded Trussville’s Blalock Building Company the bid to construct a new board of education office building. The two-story building, located on Highway 11, will provide a centralized space for Trussville City Schools’ (TCS) Central Office team, which currently work in three separate buildings throughout the city. “Our school system is committed to providing board members, faculty and staff the tools necessary to ensure our students continue to receive an award-winning education,” said Dr. Pattie Neill, TCS superintendent. “The board of education’s new office building will serve as an important step towards our continued achievement of that goal, as it further will enhance our teams’ ability to communicate and collaborate – especially during a times of unprecedented challenges.”
