CLAY — During the regular Clay City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, the council held a public hearing concerning Rezoning Case Z-2020-02, which addressed the rezoning of 6681 Trussville Clay Road from Institutional to General Commercial. Photo: Facebook.
“It is a church at this point, has been for several years,” Dixon said. “But it is being purchased by a business that’s currently in Clay. This comes and then we moved to Birmingham,” Padgett said. “We are just trying to move closer to home in Ashville and we have a lot of customers out this way.”
The 3,500 square feet space is smaller than the 9,000 square feet space they had in Birmingham, but Padgett said that it a good thing.
“We want to concentrate more on our own furniture that we build,” she said.

April Pitts, owner of Southern Craft Supply, spoke in favor of the rezoning.
“We are just a little, small craft store, already located here in Clay,” Pitts said. “We would love to stay here, but we do need to expand. We need a bigger building … so we would like to buy the church directly across from the middle school, right there located on Trussville Clay Road, just so that we can grow bigger and stay here in the community.”
Pitts said that Southern Craft Supply, which is currently located on Old Springville Road, sells blank wood for custom door hangers, paint, vinyl and other beds, headboards and other custom furniture. The store at 410 Gadsden Highway, has been approved to open by the city. Padgett and Stewart hope to open by the end of the first week of November.
If you are wondering where they got their name, Padgett and Stewart say they love cats, dogs, horses and all animals, so they wanted to make their name about their love for pets.
