BIRMINGHAM — Remains believed to be those of a missing 3-year-old in Birmingham were found in a dumpster and recovered from a landfill, according to Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith. The child was last seen at a birthday party in the Tom Brown Housing community, on Oct. 12. Birmingham Police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue, the FBI, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies and volunteers, have been searching for McKinney for 10 days. “This young child has touched a nation,” said Smith. “This young child has definitely sent a message across the nation that we all must be diligent to protect them all.” Patrick Stallworth, 39, and Derick Irisha Brown, 29, will be charged with capital murder and kidnapping, according to Chief Smith. Police said they have not found a connection between the suspects and McKinney’s family. Smith said investigators believe the perpetrators planned. “They saw an opportunity to take a young child and they

Woodside Condominiums, in Center Point, where the two suspects were found after a tipster led them to the vehicle believed to be used in the abduction. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said those responsible will be prosecuted
to the fullest extent of the law. “Right now, I ask one thing of this community,” said Woodfin. “Not to take sides, not to point fingers.” Woodfin said the family of McKinney needs the community as they mourn the loss of their young daughter.

TRUSSVILLE — According to the FBI, as of Oct. 15, 2019, 34 police officers had been feloniously killed in 2019. Each day, men and women of law enforcement suit up and head out to protect and serve communities. Now, we are getting a firsthand look
at how officers in Trussville are doing the same. Officer Adam Anderson has been on the job with the Trussville Police Department for 2 1/2 years. He patrols the city each day, looking to keep criminals out and to keep citizens safe. “I enjoy helping people that can’t help themselves,” said Anderson. “It’s very re-
warding. Yes, some days are challenging but overall it’s a very rewarding experience.” The 26-year-old college graduate said he always knew he wanted to help others. After his time at Troy University, Anderson decided to use his degree in criminal justice to compliment his ability to connect with people, as a law enforcement officer.
“I don’t know what it is but people say I have a trusting face. I guess it’s true and that’s why I think I am able to do what I do,” said Anderson. As Anderson patrols busy roadways in Trussville, he is looking for people who are breaking the law and he is looking for anyone who may need help.
