The intersection of Chalkville Road and Highway 11 will undergo improvements beginning July 6, 2020. From The Tribune staff reports

TRUSSVILLE — A major road project in downtown Trussville is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 6, 2020, and traffic delays are expected. Mayor Buddy Choat said the project is part of the Quad I phase of downtown redevelopment.

The intersection of Highway 11 and Chalkville Road will take about a month to renovate. The radius of the intersection will be improved, according to Choat. “This is the last phase of Quad I, the Plaza area,” Choat said. “It is expected to take at least a month but it could be longer.” Only one lane will be open on Highway 11, in

each direction. Drivers will not be able to access North Chalkville or South Chalkville from Highway 11, but there will be detours in place. “There will be a lot of inconveniences, but we will try and have some detours clearly marked so people can navigate the best way through downtown,” Choat explained.

New traffic signals will be installed to match the look of the city’s Entertainment District. The location of the old Braden’s Furniture has been demolished and plans for a new plaza are in the works. The area will feature new parking, a large clock donated by the Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club and new sidewalks.

It is so gratifying to see Erica, Brannon and Josh recognized for their talent and hard work. Ron Burkett is also critical to our multimedia success because he’s the guy behind the scenes making it all come together.” The Tribune’s managing editor Erica Thomas said the paper’s success is a group effort.

“We have all put our heads together to serve our communities in the best way possible,” Thomas said. “It takes a village full of people who truly care to do what we’ve done.” The Tribune is a weekly print newspaper which also provides up-to-the-minute news online covering the cities of Trussville, Clay, Pinson, Argo, Center Point, Springville, Leeds, Moody and surrounding areas.
