TRUSSVILLE — Jefferson County crews reopened Floyd Bradford Road on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. Commissioner Joe Knight said crews were able to make a temporary fix to failed culverts that caused the county to close the road in February this year. See FLOYD BRADFORD, Page 3

Springville city council approves acquisition of several roads in need of repair Sgt. Stephen Williams was a 23-year veteran and had been with the Moody Police Department for three years. He was the night-shift sergeant. He had been promoted to sergeant in the past year.

Chief Thomas Hunt said that Williams was shot on arrival. St. Clair County Sheriff Billy Murray added that once the officers responded to the call, which came from the

ty will include office space (administration, athletics, finance, facilities, etc.), a board room, training rooms, a family resource center and a technology department, according to Ryan Vernon, an architect for Lathan Associates Architects, PC. The exterior of the building will include a combination of brick, precast concrete, aluminum storefront windows/doors, and a metal

roof. The building is expected to be completed one year after the bid for construction is awarded, according to Vernon. Bidding on the construction of the new central office will be open at the end of July. Those bids will go before the BOE in August. Floyd Bradford Road now open after temporary fix

Trussville City Schools plans to use state money to build new central office TRUSSVILLE — During its regular meeting on Thursday, June 11, 2020, the Trussville Board of Education learned it will not have to use city reserves to pay for the construction of the new central office. Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations, Jim Kirkland, announced a state bond issue that will be used instead. Kirkland said Gov. Kay Ivey is allocating $1.2 billion to school systems statewide to stimulate the economy. The money must be used on capital improvements. Trussville City Schools is expected to receive $5.8 million to $5.9 million of those funds. Kirkand said he hopes TCS will see an added benefit since the school system already has plans for a capital improvement. “We’re in a great position with a shovel-ready project,” said Kirkland. “Getting ahead

MOODY — A gathering of community support for fallen Moody police Lt. Stephen Williams on Sunday. June 14, 2020, raised nearly $5,000 for his family and the Moody Police Department. The event was put together to honor the memory of Williams and to show support to the police department and his family. In all, the event raised $4,800 as hundreds of people showed up at the Moody Civic Center on Sunday evening to pay their respects for the fallen officer. The event followed a memorial ride at 2:13 p.m. on Sunday that began at the civic center and wound its way through the neighborhoods previously patrolled by Williams. Williams was killed following a shootout at the Super 8 in Moody. The events leading up to the shooting are vague, but Moody Police
